Mizhi Zhengyuan San: Treats decline of Mingmen Fire. Failure to generate Earth (Spleen/Stomach). Manifesting as vomiting, diarrhea, and cold extremities. Occasionally, Yin Fire rushes upward, causing redness and heat in the head and face, dizziness, vertigo, and nausea. Rebellious turbid Qi causes fullness, leading to stabbing pain in the chest and hypochondrium, and abdominal distension and urgency around the umbilicus.
Ingredients: Renshen (Ginseng Radix, 3 liang, boiled with 1 liang of Chuanwu, extract collected, Chuanwu removed); Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, 2 liang, boiled with 5 qian of Jupi, extract collected, Jupi removed); Fuling (Poria, 2 liang, decocted in wine with 6 qian of Rougui, dried, avoid fire, Rougui removed); Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 1 liang 5 qian, decocted with 1 liang of Wuyao, extract collected, Wuyao removed); Huangqi (Astragali Radix, 1 liang 5 qian, decocted in wine with 1 liang of Chuanxiong, extract collected, Chuanxiong removed); Shuyu (Dioscoreae Rhizoma, 1 liang, decocted with 3 qian of Ganjiang, extract collected, Ganjiang removed).
Preparation and Administration: Of the above six herbs, except for Fuling, dry them slowly over low heat without roasting to preserve medicinal properties. Pound into a powder. Take 3 qian each time, add 1 zhan of water, 3 slices of fresh ginger, and 1 red date split open. Boil briefly. Add a pinch of salt, mix with the dregs, and administer. After taking the medicine, drink a cup of hot wine to assist its efficacy. This formula originates from Yu Tianyi’s Secret Instructions on Medicine Making. It is derived from the thirteen-ingredient formula in Qianjin Fang, but utilizes the acrid-warm nature of Wutou, Ganjiang, and Rougui to restrain each ingredient separately within the context of Sizijunzi Tang (Four Gentlemen Decoction) components (Renshen, Huangqi, Baizhu, Gancao) and Shuyu. Compared to Qizhen San, it lacks millet but adds red beans. Although its potency is slightly inferior to the original formula, since the harsh qualities are removed with the dregs, formless Qi transforms into substance. It is indeed a mild agent for warming and tonifying the "Lesser Fire" (Mingmen Fire), without the risk of consuming healthy Qi. It is truly a merit-worthy contribution to Qianjin Fang.
