Commonly referred to as Hei Fuzi (Black Prepared Aconite Root).
Di Dan (Radix Bungeae) serves as its guiding herb (Shi Yao). It is incompatible with Fang Feng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix), Huang Qin (Scutellariae Radix), Hei Dou (Sojae Semen Nigrum), Lv Dou (Phaseoli Radiatus), Wu Jiu (Allium victorialis var. platyphyllum), Tong Piao (Child's Urine), and Xi Jiao (Rhinocerotis Cornu). It is adverse to Wu Gong (Scolopendra). It is contraindicated with Chi Zhi (Fermented Soybean Juice).
It is extremely pungent in flavor and extremely hot in nature. It possesses great toxicity. It enters the Hand-Shaoyin Heart Meridian and circulates through the Twelve Meridians. It primarily treats deep-seated cold in the Six Fu Organs and reverses Jue Ni (cold extremities due to Yang deficiency) of the Three Yin meridians. Its potent, fierce, and vigorous nature possesses the momentum of breaking through gates and passing barriers; it should not be used lightly unless there is direct invasion of severe cold into the Yin meridians or true Yang deficiency with impending collapse. It guides Qi-tonifying herbs to retrieve and restore scattered Yuan Yang (Primordial Yang); it guides Blood-nourishing herbs to nourish deficient True Yin; it guides dispersing herbs to expel Wind-Cold from the exterior; it guides warming herbs to dispel Cold-Dampness from the interior.
Combined with Shu Jiao (Zanthoxylum bungeanum) and Shi Yan (Rock Salt), it directs action downward to the Ming Men (Gate of Life). Paired with Gan Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma), it treats coma and drowsiness caused by middle Jiao cold. Paired with Hei Shan Zhi (Gardeniae Fructus processed with bran), it treats Han Shan (Cold Hernia) and various pains. Paired with Sheng Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), it treats Tou Tong (Headache) caused by Kidney Jue. Paired with Rou Guo Zhou Wan (Myristica Seed Porridge Pills), it treats Zang Han Pi Xie (Visceral Cold Spleen Diarrhea). Paired with Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), it treats Han Shi (Cold-Dampness). Paired with Ban Xia (Pinelliae Rhizoma) and Sheng Jiang, it treats Cold Tan (Cold Phlegm) in the Stomach. Paired with Ze Xie (Alismatis Rhizoma) and Deng Xin Cao (Junci Medulla), it treats Xu Mi (Deficiency-type urinary retention) (Can be used when both Chi pulses are deep and faint). Paired with Shi Gao (Gypsum Fibrosum) in equal parts, ground into powder, with a small amount of She Xiang (Moschus) added, taken with tea or wine, it treats Headache. Combined with Jing Jie (Schizonepetae Herba), it treats Chan Zheng (Convulsions) postpartum (Raw use is suitable. If caused by Blood deficiency generating Heat, and Heat generating Wind, administration will lead to immediate death). Combined with Rou Gui (Cinnamomi Cortex), it tonifies the Minister Fire of the Ming Men.
Processing method: Soak in Tong Bian (Child's Urine), wrap in coarse paper, and bake until cooked. Remove skin and navel, cut into pieces. Then soak thoroughly while hot in decoction of Chuan Lian (Coptidis Rhizoma), Gan Cao, Hei Dou, and Tong Bian, then dry in the sun for use. Alternatively, boil the three ingredients into a thick decoction, remove dregs, add Fuzi, and cook thoroughly for use. For rescuing Yang, process with Tong Bian. For stabilizing the exterior, bake wrapped in flour paste. Another method involves honey-frying or honey-cooking.
If poisoned, it can be detoxified by drinking decoction of Sheng Gan Cao (Raw Licorice Root), Xi Jiao, and Chuan Lian.
Strange Syndrome: The soles of both feet are convex and swollen; the head is black and hard like a nail; fragmented holes appear on the tibia bones with unceasing leakage of bone marrow; the body shivers with cold; there is a craving for alcohol but no desire for food. This is a condition where Liver and Kidney Cold and Heat devour each other. Apply powdered prepared Fuzi externally mixed with a medium, and internally administer Jiu Zi Tang (Leek Seed Decoction). Effective.
The world only sees cases of Yang deficiency without Heat, where administering Fuzi has the power to revive the dying, but does not know that in cases of Yin deficiency with stirring Fire, once swallowed, there is no method to save from death. Why is Fuzi regarded as a tonic, considered indispensable for the weak? Because one observes that Water deficiency leads to flaming Fire, and Yin-nourishing methods often fail, leading people to mistakenly believe that cold-natured herbs damage the Stomach, and that warming tonification can eliminate severe Heat, requiring Ren Shen and Fuzi to see results. After prolonged cooling tonification, temporarily administering one or two doses might bring temporary relief and vigor. Who knows that once internal Fire arises, the harm is extraordinary; even if cooling tonification is resumed, the previous state of peace and health cannot be retrieved. Furthermore, observing Tai Yang disease Yang syndromes and epidemic Fire syndromes, where most present with cold extremities, pink-white tongue coating, preference for hot drinks, and aversion to cold, they are mistaken for True Cold inside and False Heat outside. Administering Fuzi and Rou Gui to assist the Ming Men Fire, claiming it is floating Fire that will return to its origin under the guidance of Fuzi and Rou Gui, thus causing countless wrongful deaths.
