For those who have died from freezing but still retain slight warmth in the chest area, (if rescued immediately after falling into water in winter, with little water inhaled and faint breath remaining, remove wet clothes, untie bindings, wrap in warm clothing for heat preservation; other treatments are the same as for saving frozen deaths.) Use rice stir-fried until hot, placed in a cloth bag, to apply heat compresses to the heart region; replace when cool. Alternatively, use stir-fried kiln ash for heat compression on the heart. After eyes open and breath returns, administer warm wine, ginger soup, or porridge drink slowly and gradually. If fire is used for warming first, death is certain. (If the patient smiles during rescue, quickly cover mouth and nose,) using fresh ginger with skin crushed, combined with *Chenpi* (dried tangerine peel, finely cut) each one liang, boiled in three bowls of water until one and a half bowls remain, taken warm. Another method: roll the patient in felt or straw mats, secure with ropes, place on a level surface, and have two people tread gently while rolling the body back and forth like the felt method; life returns when limbs become warm.
(Whether caused by prior illness or sudden cessation during sleep, this is considered Zhong'e [sudden collapse due to evil pathogenic factors]. At night without lamps, do not use fire for illumination.) Urgently take duck blood, heat it, and pour down the throat for immediate revival. Another method: crush garlic to extract juice and instill into the nostrils for revival; leek juice is also effective. One prescription uses *Zaojiao* (Gleditsia sinensis fruit) powder blown into the nostrils, or raw *Banxia* (Pinelliae Rhizoma) powder. Another method: inspect the upper lip margin for millet-grain-sized blisters and puncture them with a needle. Another method: burn sheep dung and smoke the fumes into the nostrils. Another method: soak cotton in good vinegar (half a cup), press against the nose to allow juice entry, hold both hands firmly to prevent fright; revival occurs shortly. Another method: grind fresh *Shichangpu* (Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma) to extract one cup of juice and administer orally.
Apply rooster comb blood to the mouth, smear on the face, and blow into the nostrils for revival.
Burn *Biejia* (Testudinis Carapax et Plastrum) together with *Cangzhu* (Atractylodis Rhizoma); this causes death.
Administer one or two cups of good wine orally for revival.
For those who have died from crushing or falling but retain slight warmth in the heart region, urgently support them into a sitting position, lift their hair by hand, blow *Banxia* (Pinelliae Rhizoma) powder into the nostrils for slight revival. Mix fresh ginger juice with vegetable oil evenly and administer orally. Subsequently, administer blood-dispersing medicines; if unavailable, administer urine. One prescription takes peach branches and willow branches facing east, each seven cun long, decocted in water and administered orally.
For those who have died from Zhong'e [sudden collapse due to evil pathogenic factors] or nightmare suffocation, do not approach closely or call out urgently; merely blow upon the face. If unresponsive, bite the heel and thumb, frequently call their name, and administer ginger soup for certain revival. One method: slightly move the sleeping place and awaken them slowly; keep existing lights if available, do not use lamps if none exist. Another method: blow soybean-sized amounts of *Zaojiao* (Gleditsia sinensis fruit) powder into both nostrils; sneezing indicates awakening. Another method: grind leek juice and instill into nostrils (use roots in winter); sneezing may occur. One method: blow into both ears using a pen tube and insert a thread made of fourteen strands of the patient's hair into the ear canals. Another method: administer one cup of salted boiling water mixed with two spoons of ginger juice. Another method: apply moxibustion to the hairy area of the big toe on both feet, three or seven moxa cones.
