Take 1 to 2 liang of *Bencao* (a medicinal herb, likely referring to a specific root or bark mentioned in local materia medica) and decoct it in water for bathing. It is also excellent for washing clothes with this decoction.
If children suffer from falls or cuts by knives and axes, wind-pathogens may secretly invade the injured area, causing swelling at the wound site, which is called Po Shang Feng (Broken Injury Wind / Tetanus). Immediate treatment is required; otherwise, Jing Zheng (Spasms / Convulsions) will develop. Internally administer Shu Feng Huo Xue San (Wind-Dispersing and Blood-Activating Powder), and externally apply water-ground Zijin Ding (Purple Gold锭 / Plaster) to the affected area.
Shu Feng Huo Xue San: Treats Po Shang Feng caused by bleeding or broken injuries in children, applicable whether Jing Zheng has already occurred or not.
Ingredients: Quan Dang Gui (Whole *Angelicae Sinensis Radix*), Huai Sheng Di (Huai-grown *Rehmanniae Radix*), Chi Shao Yao (*Paeoniae Radix Rubra*), Bei Fang Feng (*Saposhnikoviae Radix*) (each 1.2 qian); Xian Hong Hua (Fresh *Carthami Flos*), Zheng Chuan Xiong (Authentic *Chuanxiong Rhizoma*), Guang Su Mu (*Daemonorops Draco*), Zhi Gan Cao (Honey-fried *Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma*) (each 0.6 qian); Sheng Jiang (Fresh Ginger, 3 slices), Da Zao (Jujube, 1 piece). Decoct in water and take hot.
Zijin Ding:
Ingredients: Shan Ci Gu (*Smilacis Glabrae Rhizoma*, 3 liang), Wu Bei Zi (Galla Chinensis, 3 liang), Hong Ya Da Ji (Red-bud *Euphorbiae Pekinensis Radix*, remove rhizome, 1.5 liang), Ming Xiong Huang (Bright Realgar, 5 qian), Jing Chen Sha (Mirror Cinnabar, 5 qian), Zhen She Xiang (Authentic Moschus, 3 qian).
Grind all ingredients into fine powder. Mix with Gao Mi Yin (Rice porridge drink) to knead the medicine, pound into a solid form (ding), and grind with water for external application.
(Four entries regarding Luo Li / Scrofula)
Avoid using needles or scalpels; it is suitable to consume Xiaoluo Wan (Scrofula-Dissipating Pill) and apply Wanchun Gao (Wanquan Plaster). (See Internal Medicine and Surgery chapters for these formulas.)
Madao Chuang (Horse Knife Sore) occurs before and behind the ear, presenting as sores forming nodules like apricot kernels of varying sizes. This is named Madao Chuang and serves as the root of Luo Li (Scrofula): Take Tao Bai Pi (Inner bark of peach tree), cut a piece about three fingers wide, scrape off the outer skin leaving only the inner layer, and apply it to the sore. Moxibustion (Ai Zhu) is applied on top of the peach bark. Stop when extreme pain is felt, ensuring the skin is not damaged. Repeat moxibustion the next day; after several sessions, the nodule will disappear.
To treat Luo Li in children that has not ulcerated, to cause internal resolution; or if already ulcerated, to promote healing: Take Ban Jin Jie (Half a jin of *Bombyx Batryticatus*). First wash three times with clear water to remove any residual Duan Shi (calcined alum), dry in the sun, and stir-fry until charred. Separately, take Ban Jin of late-harvest rice, stir-fry until extremely hot. Grind both together into fine powder. Use rice paste to make pills, each weighing 1 qian. Take one pill daily on an empty stomach, washed down with a decoction of Xia Ku Cao (*Prunellae Spica*). Older children take two pills, younger ones take one; grind thoroughly and mix for administration. Regularly nourish the child with rich, fatty, and moistening foods.
Zixia Gao: For Luo Li that has not yet formed, application leads to spontaneous resolution; for those already formed, it causes spontaneous ulceration; for those already ulcerated but with residual nodules, it causes the nodules to fall off spontaneously. It is also effective for various stubborn sores that are broken, non-healing, and painful.
Ingredients: Ming Jing Song Xiang (Clear Pine Resin, 1 jin, powdered); Xian Se Tong Lv (Fresh Copper Green / Verdigris, 2 liang, powdered).
Heat 4 liang of genuine Sesame Oil (*Sesamum indicum* oil), boil briefly, add pine resin and melt, then add copper green. Boil until white smoke nearly ceases and the ointment is ready. Remove from heat and store in a porcelain jar. To use, melt with hot water and apply immediately while warm.
Specifically treats Luo Li ulcers that have persisted for years without healing, extending to the chest and axilla: Take a piece of newly kiln-fired Kuang Duan Shi (Mineral Calcined Alum). Dissolve with a few drops of water into powder. Mix evenly with raw Tung Oil (*Verniciae Folium* oil) to achieve moderate consistency. First, wash the sore with a decoction of Sichuan Pepper (*Zanthoxyli Fructus*) and scallion. Apply this mixture. The condition will heal within a few days; truly a miraculous formula.
