[Ju Fang] Treats Shaoyin cold damage (Shaoyin cold syndrome), as well as external contraction of wind-cold and internal injury from raw/cold food. Symptoms include fever without sweating, headache and body pain, stiffness and tension in the neck and back, chest fullness with aversion to food, vomiting and abdominal pain, alternating chills and fever, swelling and pain of jiaogqi (foot disease), cold constipation (constipation due to cold) and cold hernia (hernia pain caused by cold), cold malaria, aversion to cold without sweating, and irregular menstruation in women. (The above syndromes are all diseases caused by cold-dampness.)
Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Houpo (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex) (6 fen), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix), Fuling (Poria), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix) (8 fen), Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma), Zhike (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus) (7 fen).
If there is sweating, remove Cangzhu; if limbs are cold and there is deficiency sweating, add Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba) and Guizhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus), so as to release the exterior and disperse cold. Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) and Shaoyao, so as to harmonize the interior and relieve pain. Cangzhu and Houpo, so as to level the stomach earth and dissipate fullness. Chenpi and Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma), so as to promote water metabolism. Shaoyao, so as to treat blood. [This formula addresses both exterior and interior.] If not feverish... regarding the onset... it can be known that it is a Yin syndrome. After one dose... if the condition worsens urgently... food stagnation and qi... Combine with Renshen Baidu San (Ginseng Detoxification Powder), named Wuji Jiajiao San (Five Accumulations Mixed Powder). Treats cold-dampness, heavy body pain, soreness and pain in waist and legs.
[Yuan Rong] Treats external contraction of wind-cold and internal injury from diet. Symptoms include fever and headache, vomiting and regurgitation, cough. Phlegm obstructing the middle jiao, dizziness, heartburn and irritability, wind-cold diarrhea. And after cold damage has been sweated, fever continues unabated. (Fever continuing after sweating indicates residual pathogenic factors remain. It is also appropriate to use this formula to harmonize the exterior and interior, so that the pathogens will naturally dissipate. For Yi Yin (overflowing drink) causing heavy body and fixed pain, this formula is also suitable for clearing and draining.)
Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Zisu (Perillae Folium), Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma), Qianhu (Peucedani Radix), Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma) (stir-fried with ginger juice), Fuling (Poria) (7 qian 5 fen), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) (remove white pith), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Zhike (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus) (bran-fried).
If there is fire, remove Renshen.
Yuan Rong said: This formula contains wind-dispelling herbs to release the exterior and qi-regulating herbs to harmonize the middle. External contraction of wind-cold and internal accumulation of phlegm-fluid can all be treated with it. Combined with Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction), it is named Fuling Bu... Shaoyang... can broaden... Remove Renshen, add Chuanxiong, replace Qianhu with Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix), decoct with Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) and Dazao (Jujubae Fructus), named Xiong Su Yin (Ligusticum and Perilla Drink). (From Dan Liao Fang.) Treats injury from wind-cold, with external fever, headache, and aversion to cold... using Chaihu...
