(Jufang) For malaria that has persisted for a long time without resolution, use this formula to arrest the attack. (Arresting therapy is not suitable for the initial stage of malaria; if used prematurely when pathogenic factors are not yet cleared, it may lead to other complications. It can only be employed after the malaria has been recurring for a long time.)
Chanshan (Dichroae Radix, stir-fried with rice wine, 2 qian) Caoguo (Tsaoko Fructus, roasted) Binglang (Arecae Semen) Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma) Beimu (Fritillariae Bulbus, 1 qian) Wumei (Mume Fructus, 2 pieces) Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens, 3 slices), Dazao (Jujubae Fructus, 2 pieces). Decoct and take orally. Another version includes Liangjiang (Galangal Rhizome).
Ancient saying: "No phlegm, no malaria." Dichroae Radix induces vomiting and promotes water metabolism, dispelling old accumulated phlegm. Arecae Semen directs qi downward, breaks stagnation, and resolves food accumulation while moving phlegm. When yin and yang are in disharmony... [Text fragment] ...the agent to overcome it. Zhimu... Only the clear preceding statements and formula background are translated.]
(Yijian Fang) Treats excess-type malaria that persists and recurs indefinitely, where the radial pulse at the cunkou position is wiry, slippery, floating, and large. (A wiry pulse indicates liver wind, slippery indicates phlegm, and floating/large indicates yang excess. If the pulse is deep, fine, weak, and choppy, this formula is contraindicated.) Regardless of whether it is ghost malaria or food malaria, all are treated.
Dichroae Radix (wine-stir-fried) Tsaoko Fructus (roasted) Arecae Semen Qingpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride) Houpo (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex) Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), equal parts. Use one cup of water and one cup of wine, decoct until ready. Take whenever the malaria is about to arrive. But when the malaria comes... [Text fragment] ...Dichroae Radix can induce vomiting of old accumulated phlegm, Arecae Semen can descend and resolve food accumulation and phlegm knots, Tsaoko Fructus can eliminate phlegm generated from rich foods in the Taiyin channel. Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium regulates qi, Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex calms the stomach, Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride... [Text subsequent is fragmented].
(Yan Shi) Treats stroke due to phlegm misting the heart orifices, characterized by a stiff tongue and inability to speak. (The heart opens into the tongue; the heart's divergent channel connects to the root of the tongue; the spleen channel connects to the root of the tongue and spreads under it; the kidney channel flanks the root of the tongue. If these three meridians are deficient, phlegm-saliva takes advantage of the deficiency to block the meridians, causing the tongue to lose mobility for speech. If aphonia results from blood loss in these three meridians failing to nourish the tongue, blood-nourishing herbs should be added. If wind-phlegm obstructs the meridians causing tongue stiffness and inability to speak, the condition is severe. If excessive heat attacks upward causing tongue swelling and immobility, the condition is mild.)
Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma, processed with ginger juice) Danshenxing (Arisaematis Cum Bile Rhizoma, 2.5 qian) Juhong (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Rubrum) Zhishi (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus) Fuling (Poria) Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) Changpu (Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma, 1 qian) Zhuru (Bambusae Caulis in Taenia, 0.7 fen). Decoct and take. Heart and spleen deficiency allows wind pathogens to invade, causing phlegm and fire to block the meridians, resulting in tongue stiffness and difficulty speaking. Ginseng, Poria, and Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma tonify the heart and benefit the spleen... [Text fragment] ...make... excess... [Text subsequent is chaotic]. There are cases of wind striking the heart and spleen, phlegm blocking the heart orifices, and wind-cold stagnation, leading to numbness and stiffness of the tongue. There are also cases of qi deficiency, blood deficiency, kidney deficiency, and sudden aphonia in the elderly, for which Shiquan Dabu Tang (Decoction for Ten Complete Tonification) plus Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma and Polygalae Radix are appropriate.)
