According to the *Jin Gui Yao Lue* (Essential Prescriptions of the Golden Cabinet), for cases of excessive thirst with continuous drinking that does not quench it, Wen Ge San (Clam Shell Powder) is the primary treatment.
Wen Ge (Clam Shell) alone is ground into a powder. Mix with five he of boiling water and take one fang cun chi (a square-inch spoonful) per dose.
The *Jin Gui Yao Lue* states that when urination is slightly difficult, Wen Ge (Clam Shell) alone should be used early in the course of treatment. This prescription is never recorded in medical formularies; how could one know that softening and dissipating agents either rob Yin or damage Yin?

Huang Qi (Astragali Radix) and Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) tonify Qi; Shu Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata) and Bai Shao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) nourish Blood. Wu Mei (Mume Fructus) and Wu Wei Zi (Schisandrae Fructus) astringe leakage and generate fluids. Tian Dong (Asparagi Radix) and Mai Dong (Ophiopogonis Radix) clear fire and nourish Yin. Fu Ling (Poria) has a bland taste to promote diuresis.
