Treats persistent asthma and cough, or blood in the sputum; it is especially suitable for individuals with deficiency.
Lily Bulb (Baihe) and Flower Bud of Winter Jasmine (Kuandonghua) in equal parts are made into honey pills, sized like a longan fruit. Take with ginger decoction before going to bed, or hold in the mouth to dissolve. Adding Aster Tataricus Root (Ziwan), Stem of Peucedanum (Bubu), and Fruit of Chinese Plum (Wumei) creates the name Modified Baihua Gao.
Flower Bud of Winter Jasmine clears heat and directs rebellious Qi downward, clears blood and eliminates phlegm. Lily Bulb moistens the lungs and calms the heart, tonifies the middle and benefits Qi; both are essential herbs for treating cough.
(The character "Wind" contains "Insect". Insects are generated by the transformation of wind. When damp-heat stagnates for a long time, insects are born, such as rotting grass transforming into fireflies, or old wheat transforming into moths.)
(Zhang Zhongjing) treats Cold Jue syndrome of the Shaoyin channel in Shanghan, characterized by cold Jue and vomiting of roundworms. (In Shanghan disease, Zang Jue leads to death. Zang Jue is characterized by a faint pulse and cold limbs. After seven or eight days, the skin becomes cold, irritability occurs, and there is no moment of rest. In Hui Jue, when roundworms move up into the diaphragm, there is vexation, which stops after a while. Eating causes vomiting and further vexation because the roundworms come out upon smelling food odor; this is due to cold in the Zang organs. The patient will naturally vomit roundworms; administer Wumei Wan to warm the Zang organs and pacify the roundworms.) It also treats cough originating from the Stomach organ, accompanied by vomiting; if vomiting is severe, long worms may be expelled. It also treats chronic dysentery.
