(From *Ben Shi Fang*) Treats various accumulations (masses), phlegm-fluid retention, and pulling pain in the heart and hypochondriac regions.
Sha Ren (Amomi Fructus), Ba Dou (Crotonis Semen, oil removed), San Leng (Sparganii Rhizoma), Gan Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma), Bai Zhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix) (each 5 qian); Mu Xiang (Aucklandiae Radix), Qing Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride), Hu Jiao (Piperis Longi Fructus) (each 2.5 qian). Stir-fried Qian Qi (Lac Chinosae) is mixed with Da Huang Mo (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma powder) and decocted together.
This is a general formula for treating Rou Ji (meat accumulation), Qi Ji (qi accumulation), and Xue Ji (blood accumulation). Sha Ren digests meat; (Sha Ren has a strongly hot nature and can corrode metals. Materia Medica states it can transform human heart into blood, thus it has special efficacy in treating Ge Ye [dysphagia], Zheng Jia [masses], and meat accumulation.) Qian Qi dissipates blood stasis; Mu Xiang and Qing Pi move stagnant qi; San Leng breaks blood stasis and moves qi; Rou Kou (Nuciferae Semen) warms the stomach... (The original text here has omissions or textual corruption, implying warming the middle and digesting food, thereby ensuring no obstruction).
Treats stubborn and hard food stagnation, retained in the intestines and stomach, presenting with severe pain and obstruction.
Mu Xiang (Aucklandiae Radix), Shan Zha (Crataegi Fructus), Mai Ya (Hordei Fructus Germinatus), Zao Jiao (Gleditsiae Sinensis Fructus), Ding Xiang (Caryophylli Flos), Wu Yao (Linderae Radix), Qing Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride), Chen Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Ze Xie (Alismatis Rhizoma) (each 5 qian), Ba Shuang (Crotonis Semen Purified) (1 qian). The above ingredients are ground into fine powder and taken with a decoction as a vehicle.
(From the theories of Liu Hejian/Zhang Zihe) Treats chest and abdominal stagnation, fullness, distension, knotting, and pain, with obstruction of urination and defecation. Or diarrhea and dysentery, accompanied by tenesmus, food malaria, and solid accumulations.
Abdominal fullness, diarrhea, and dysentery arise from dietary retention, leading to damp-heat郁积 (accumulation/stagnation). Obstruction of urination and defecation arises from heat binding. Tenesmus arises from qi stagnation. (Note: Tenesmus may be caused by fire-heat, where fire’s dry and urgent nature causes haste; or by qi stagnation, where large intestine qi is congested and cannot circulate freely; or by material stagnation, where physical matter knots and weighs down the intestines; or by qi deficiency, where central qi sinks and cannot ascend; or by blood deficiency, where fluids are depleted and intestines are dry, causing false straining. One must differentiate syndromes for treatment. A pulse that is flooding, large, and excess indicates interior excess, suitable for purgation. If the pulse is floating and large, purgation must strictly be avoided.)
E Zhu (Curcumae Rhizoma, boiled in vinegar), San Leng (Sparganii Rhizoma, boiled in vinegar), Huang Lian (Coptidis Rhizoma, stir-fried with Evodiae decoction), Huang Bo (Phellodendri Cortex, fried with wine), Zhi Ke (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus), Chen Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, white pith removed), Qing Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride, stir-fried with vinegar). Form into pills. Administer according to the patient’s deficiency or excess... (Original text has omissions here).
San Leng and Chen Pi constitute the name "Mu Xiang Dao Qi"...
Damp-heat in the Qi aspect of the Triple Burner: Mu Xiang and Xiang Fu are qi-moving herbs that can unblock the Triple Burner and resolve the Six Stagnations. Chen Pi regulates Lung qi in the Upper Burner; Qing Pi soothes... (Original text has omissions here, usually referring to soothing the Liver and breaking qi); when qi moves... (Original text has omissions here, usually meaning qi movement promotes blood circulation); it pushes away... (Original text has omissions here, usually referring to pushing away distension/masses); Shaoyang... (Original text has omissions here).
