The *Suwen* states: When the Qi and Blood of the five collaterals are all exhausted, the body loses consciousness, resembling a corpse; this is named Shijue (Corpse Jue). It arises from worry, thought, fear, and fright, causing Stomach Qi to become deficient and obstructed in the Middle Jiao, unable to ascend or descend properly. Consequently, one experiences dizziness, confusion, and rigidity. One should moxa the Zhongwan (CV12) acupoint for fifty moxibustion cones to achieve a cure. This condition is common in women. Pediatric acute and chronic convulsions also present as this syndrome; medicinal treatment is ineffective, and using expectorant or purgative phlegm-resolving drugs will lead to death. Only by moxaing this acupoint can safety be ensured. Subsequently, administering Laifu Dan (Revival Pill) and Bidengqie San (Picrasma Fructus Powder) will result in recovery. (Regarding Jue syndromes, the *Classic* has detailed them extensively. Shijue is merely one aspect of Jue. Others include Xuejue (Blood Jue), Tanjue (Phlegm Jue), Jianjue (Frying Jue), and Bojue (Thinning Jue). All are fundamentally rooted in deficiency of the Lower Qi. As stated, "when Shaoyin Qi does not arrive, it is Jue." It is also said, "internal depletion leading to Jue results in aphonia and flaccidity (Yinfei)," which indicates Kidney deficiency.)
Clinical Cases
A woman suffered postpartum fainting, with a sensation of stagnation and dryness in both eyes, numbness on the face, locked jaw, and spasms/contracture in both hands. I said: This is due to obstruction of Stomach Qi. The Stomach meridian runs alongside the mouth and encircles the lips, emerging at the dental gaps; thus, these symptoms appear. She was instructed to moxa the Zhongwan (CV12) acupoint for fifty cones and recovered on the same day. (This is Postpartum Xuejue [Blood Jue], treatable with Cangong Baiwei San [Master Cang's Picraea Decoction].)
Another woman fell into coma intermittently for two days. All physicians treated her as a Wind syndrome without effect. After moxaing Zhongwan (CV12) for fifty cones, she recovered immediately.
A young man, having indulged excessively in alcohol and sexual activity, developed Spleen and Kidney Qi deficiency. He suddenly died from Qi collapse. Emergency moxaing of Guanyuan (CV4) for five hundred cones was performed, followed by administration of Pili Tang (Thunderbolt Decoction), Jiangfu Tang (Ginger and Aconite Decoction), and Jin Ye Dan (Golden Elixir Pill). Recovery took a long time. This condition requires early treatment; if delayed, Yuanqi (Original Qi) will completely collapse, making even moxaing futile. (There are also cases of Blood collapse, Shen collapse, Jing collapse, Jin collapse, and Ye collapse. Excessive sweating constitutes Jin-Ye collapse.)
This results from damage caused by excessive Seven Emotions and Six Desires in youth, leading to deficiency and decline of True Qi in old age. Death pulses appear on both wrists: either stopping after ten beats or after twenty beats. Death occurs within three years. Additionally, pulses resembling water dripping from a leaking roof (Wulou) or a sparrow pecking food (Quehui) are all death pulses. Moxaing Guanyuan (CV4) for five hundred cones, combined with taking Yanshou Dan (Longevity Pill) and Baoyuan Dan (Protect Original Qi Pill) for sixty days, causes the death pulse to vanish. This is a miraculous method not easily transmitted by immortals. (In early winter of the third year of Yongzheng, a surnamed Dong came for pulse diagnosis. His pulse stopped after two beats, seven beats, twelve beats, or seventeen beats. This is the pulse of Heart Qi exhaustion. In mid-winter, Water Qi is prosperous, making it difficult for Heart Fire to generate life. I tentatively prescribed a formula containing Renshen (Ginseng Root), [missing character], Lurong (Deer Antler Glue), Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Root), Zheche (Placenta Humanis), Umbilical Cord, Guixin (Cinnamon Bark), and Zaoren (Sour Jujube Seed). After ten doses, the irregular pauses in the pulse became uneven, no longer following the fixed pattern of before. After another ten doses, the pauses decreased further. After yet another ten doses, the six pulses returned to normal. Alas! One cannot say the medicine had no effect. Moreover, knowing to treat early, even without elixirs and moxa, there is potential for survival.)
