凡人至中年，天数自然虚衰，或加妄想忧思，或为功名失志，以致心血大耗，痴醉不治，渐至精气耗尽而
死，当灸关元穴三百壮，服延寿丹一斤。此证寻常药饵皆不能治，惟灸艾及丹药可保无虞。（此乃失志之证，
有似痴呆，或如神祟，自言自笑，神情若失，行步若听，非大遂其志不能愈，故愈者甚少。）
治验
一小儿因观神戏受惊，时时悲啼如醉，不食已九十日，危甚，令灸巨阙五十壮，即知人事，曰∶适间心上
有如火滚下，即好。服镇心丸而愈。（惊则神无所倚，痰涎入客包络，宫城受伤，心不安宁，故肺气来乘，而
虚火上蒸。灸法之妙，愈于缓惊锭、抱龙丸多矣。）
一人功名不遂，神思不乐，饮食渐少，日夜昏默已半年
矣，诸医不效。此病药不能治，令灸巨阙百壮、关元二百壮，病减半；令服醇酒一日三度，一月全安。盖醺酣
忘其所慕也。（失志不遂之病，非排遣性情不可，以灸法操其要，醉酒陶其情，此法妙极。）
贫贱人久卧湿地，寒邪客于肾经，又兼下元虚损，寒湿下注，血脉凝滞，两腿粗肿，行步无力，渐至大如
瓜瓠。方书皆以消湿利水治之，损人甚多，令灸涌泉、三里、承山各五十壮即愈。（俗名苏木腿，形状怪异可
畏，终身之疾，鲜有愈者，先生灸法，未知验否。）
凡是人到中年，由于自然生理机能的衰退，或者加上妄想和忧思，或者因为功名失意，导致心血大量耗损，出现痴呆且难以治愈的症状，逐渐发展到精气耗尽而死。此时应当灸关元穴三百壮，并服用延寿丹一斤。这种病症通常的药物都无法治疗，只有艾灸和丹药才能保证安全无虞。（这是因志向受挫引起的病证，症状类似痴呆，或者像被鬼神附体，自言自语、自笑，神情恍惚，走路时好像听不见声音，如果不大大满足其心愿就不能痊愈，所以治愈的人很少。）
治疗案例：
一个小孩因为观看神戏受到惊吓，时常悲伤啼哭如同醉酒状态，不吃东西已经九十天，病情非常危急。让人灸巨阙穴五十壮，孩子立刻恢复知觉，说：“刚才感觉心口有如火焰滚下，随即就好了。”服用镇心丸后痊愈。（惊恐导致心神无所依托，痰涎侵入心包络，心脏受损，心神不安宁，因此肺气来乘虚侵袭，导致虚火上蒸。艾灸的妙处，胜过缓惊锭、抱龙丸很多。）
一个人因为功名不成，精神忧郁不乐，饮食逐渐减少，日夜昏沉沉默已有半年，各位医生治疗无效。这个病药物不能治疗，让人灸巨阙穴一百壮、关元穴二百壮，病情减轻一半；让人每天喝三次醇酒，一个月后完全康复。这是因为醉酒让人忘记所追求的东西。（志向受挫不得志的病，必须通过排遣性情来治疗，用艾灸法抓住关键，用醉酒陶冶性情，这种方法极其巧妙。）
贫穷卑贱的人长期睡在潮湿的地方，寒邪客居于肾经，又兼之下元虚损，寒湿向下注流，血脉凝滞，两条腿粗肿，行走无力，逐渐变得像瓜瓠一样大。医书都用消除湿气、利水的方法治疗，损害人非常多。让人灸涌泉穴、足三里穴、承山穴各五十壮就痊愈了。（俗称苏木腿，形状怪异可怕，是终身疾病，很少有治愈的，先生的艾灸方法，不知道是否有效。）
Whenever a person reaches middle age, the natural physiological functions decline due to destiny/nature. If this is compounded by delusions and excessive worry, or by frustration in achieving fame and official rank, it leads to a massive depletion of Heart Blood (Xin Xue), resulting in dementia that is difficult to treat. Gradually, the essence and Qi are exhausted, leading to death. At this stage, one should moxa the Guanyuan (CV-4) acupoint 300 moxa cones and take one jin of Yanshou Dan (Longevity Pill). This condition cannot be treated with ordinary herbal medicines; only moxibustion and elixirs can ensure safety without danger. (This is a syndrome caused by frustrated aspirations, resembling dementia or appearing as if possessed by spirits, with the patient talking and laughing to themselves, showing a lost expression, and walking as if unable to hear. It cannot be cured unless their deepest desires are greatly fulfilled; therefore, few recover.)
Treatment Case:
A child, frightened while watching a divine performance, frequently cried sadly as if intoxicated, refused food for ninety days, and was in critical condition. Moxa Jueque (CV-14) 50 cones were applied. The child immediately regained consciousness and said, "Just now I felt fire rolling down from my heart, and then I felt better." The condition was cured after taking Zhenxin Wan (Heart-Calming Pill). (Fright causes the Spirit (Shen) to have no support, phlegm-saliva invades the Pericardium Meridian (Bao Luo), injuring the Palace City [Heart], causing the Heart Spirit to be restless. Consequently, Lung Qi attacks the deficiency, and deficient Fire steams upward. The efficacy of moxibustion far surpasses that of Huanjing Ding and Baolong Wan.)
Another person, frustrated in his career ambitions, suffered from mental depression and unhappiness. His diet gradually decreased, and he remained drowsy and silent day and night for half a year. Various physicians failed to produce effective results. This disease cannot be treated with herbs alone. He was instructed to moxa Jueque (CV-14) 100 cones and Guanyuan (CV-4) 200 cones, which reduced the illness by half. He was then instructed to drink strong wine three times a day, and within one month, he fully recovered. This is because intoxication allows one to forget what they desire. (For diseases of frustrated aspirations, it is essential to discharge and soothe the temperament. Using moxibustion to grasp the key aspect and drunkenness to cultivate the emotion makes this method extremely ingenious.)
Poor and low-status individuals who lie on damp ground for long periods allow Cold Pathogens (Han Xie) to lodge in the Kidney Meridian. Combined with deficiency and damage in the Lower Yuan (Lower Origin), Cold-Dampness pours downward, causing blood vessels to coagulate and stagnate. Both legs become swollen and thick, making walking difficult, eventually becoming as large as gourds. Medical texts all advocate treating this by eliminating dampness and promoting urination, which harms many people. Moxa Yongquan (KI-1), Zusanli (ST-36), and Chengshan (BL-57) each 50 cones, and the condition heals. (Commonly known as 'Suxmu Leg' [Lignum Sappan Leg], with a strange and terrifying shape, it is a lifelong disease rarely cured. Whether Mr. Dou's moxibustion method is effective remains unknown.)
