It is appropriate to reduce the Fengchi (GB20, Wind Pool) acupoint.
There are two types of lateral and frontal headaches: if caused by phlegm, reduction should be applied at the Fengchi (GB20, Wind Pool) acupoint.
If this disease is not caused by phlegm-fluid retention, carefully examine the Hegu (LI4, Union Valley) acupoint.
Fengchi (GB20, Wind Pool): Located below the tendon behind the ear, under the temporal bone, entering the hairline. Insert horizontally one-and-a-half cun towards the Fengfu (GV16, Wind Mansion) acupoint. Apply tonification first, then reduction; moxibustion of seven or fourteen cones can be applied.
Hegu (LI4, Union Valley): Also known as Tiger's Mouth. Located in the gap between the second metacarpal bones of the thumb and index finger, where the pulse is palpable. Insert vertically one-and-a-half cun; apply tonification or reduction based on deficiency or excess.
Stiffness of the neck accompanied by difficulty turning the head, along with toothache that cannot be relieved.
First, determine tonification and reduction at the Chengjiang (CV24, Lake of Reception) acupoint, then needle the Fengfu (GV16, Wind Mansion) acupoint for immediate relief.
Chengjiang (CV24, Lake of Reception): Located in the depression below the lower lip. Insert vertically three fen; moxibustion of seven cones can be applied, using reduction.
Fengfu (GV16, Wind Mansion): Located one cun above the posterior hairline, between the two tendons of the neck. The point protrudes when speaking and sinks when silent; this sinking area is the acupoint. Insert three fen; do not insert deeply, as deep insertion may cause aphonia and muteness.
(Attachment: Vomiting)
Paroxysmal toothache feels like roasting and frying; for acupuncture treatment, seek the Erjian (LI2, Second Intercalary) acupoint.
Uncontrollable regurgitation and vomiting of food: try the special acupoint Zhongkui.
Erjian (LI2, Second Intercalary): Located in the bony gap between the thumb and index finger. Insert one fen, obliquely backward along the skin for three fen. Moxibustion of seven cones can be applied; apply tonification or reduction based on deficiency or excess.
Zhongkui: Located at the tip of the second joint of the middle finger. Moxibustion of fourteen cones can be applied, using reduction. Needling is prohibited.
The condition of Ru'e (Millet Grain, referring to tonsillitis) is more peculiar; urgent use of golden needles can cure the disease.
If treatment is delayed and difficult to manage, bleeding from Shaoshang (LU11, Lesser Shang) is appropriate.
Shaoshang (LU11, Lesser Shang): Located at the medial corner of the nail plate of the thumb, about the width of a leek leaf from the nail edge. Insert one fen, obliquely backward along the skin for three fen, using reduction; bleed using a three-edged needle.
Clear nasal discharge is called Biyuan (Nasal Sinusitis); reduction followed by tonification can cure the disease.
If accompanied by headache and eye pain, needling the Shangxing (GV23, Upper Star) acupoint without deviation is effective.
Shangxing (GV23, Upper Star): Located one-and-a-half cun above the anterior hairline. To locate, press the transverse crease of the wrist against the tip of the nose; the tip of the middle finger indicates the acupoint. Insert vertically three fen; moxibustion of seven cones can be applied. For Biyuan (Nasal Sinusitis), apply tonification; for anosmia, apply reduction. Corresponds to the Taiyuan (LU9, Supreme Abyss) acupoint, see the subsequent poem on Phlegm-Cough.
