兔肉乃大美,亦益人。妊身不可食,令子唇缺。其肉又不可合白鸡肉,食之令人面发黄;

Nature: Neutral, non-toxic. Indications: Dizziness and headache (Tóuxuàn tòng), epilepsy (Diān jí). Bone: Treats heat in the middle jiao with thirst (Rè zhōng xiāo kě). Brain: Treats frostbite (Dòng chuāng). Liver: Treats dim vision (Mù àn). Meat: Pungent in flavor, neutral in nature, non-toxic. Indications: Tonifies the middle and supplements qi (Bǔ zhōng yì qì).
Rabbit meat is extremely delicious and beneficial to humans. Pregnant women should not consume it, as it may cause cleft lip in the fetus. Rabbit meat should not be eaten with white chicken meat; doing so causes yellowing of the face. Eating it with otter meat causes Dun Shi disease (Dùn shī bìng, a type of lingering corpse pathogen disease).
[Verification] Burning rabbit fur and skin into ash and taking it with wine treats difficult labor, retention of the placenta after birth, and abdominal distension due to residual blood attacking the heart leading to a sensation of impending death; it is highly effective. Rabbit scalp treats Gui Zhu disease (Guǐ zhù, a chronic wasting infectious disease) and toxic vapors causing needle-like pain in the skin. It also treats Shu Lou (Shǔ lòu, scrofula/lymphatic tuberculosis). Rabbit fat treats deafness (Ěr lóng).
Salty in flavor, neutral in nature, toxic. Indications: Gui Zhu disease (Guǐ zhù), Gu Du (Gǔ dú, poisoning from insects/poisons), alternating chills and fever (Hán rè), fright and epilepsy (Jīng xiàn), epilepsy (Diān jí), manic running; Camel hair is particularly effective.
The "Six Domestic Animals" refer to horses, cattle, sheep, pigs, dogs, and chickens; mules and donkeys are also of this category. Camels come from foreign lands and are no longer used by medical practitioners. Moreover, the fur and hooves of horses, cattle, sheep, chickens, pigs, and dogs are listed under their respective categories, and their indications need not all be the same as those described here.
[Verification] Camel fur, hooves, and horns treat leukorrhea (Chái dài xià) in women, with excellent efficacy.
Indications: Facilitates abortion, makes childbirth easy. Grows in Shandu Ping Valley.
This is the flying squirrel (Wú shǔ), also known as Fei Sheng (Fēi shēng). It resembles a bat but is as large as a kite (Yuān), with dark purple fur, and flies at night. People capture its fur and give it to parturient women to hold, facilitating the delivery of the infant. There is also a creature called "Water Horse" (Shuǐ mǎ) living in the sea, belonging to the fish and shrimp family, resembling a horse, which also facilitates childbirth. This rodent belongs to a different category and is included in the secondary grade.
Pungent in flavor, warm in nature, non-toxic. Indications: Carbuncles and swellings (Yōng zhǒng), malignant sores (È chuāng), necrotic tissue (Sǐ jī), cold-damp bi syndrome (Hán fēng shī bì), flaccidity and inability to control the four limbs (Sìzhī jūhuǎn bù shōu), swelling and qi stagnation in the head (Fēng tóu zhǒng qì), unblocks the interstices (Tōng còulǐ), and softens/moistens the skin.
Deer fat (Mí zhī), also known as Gong Zhi (Gōng zhī). Incompatible with Rhubarb (Dà huáng). Deer horn (Mí jiǎo): Sweet in flavor, non-toxic. Indications: Bi syndrome (Bì zhèng), stops bleeding, tonifies qi and strengthens strength. Grows in the valleys of Southern Mountains and along the Huai River coast; harvested in the tenth month.
Currently, the most abundant area is Hailing, where they live in herds of thousands, with more females than males. It is said that one male mates with over ten females and dies immediately after mating. Its fat falls into the soil; if obtained by humans after a year, it is considered good, named Dun Zhi (Dùn zhī), and taken with wine for excellent results. Considering the deer's vigorous nature, it should not cause impotence. Another theory suggests avoiding contact with the genitals to prevent impotence, which has some merit. Deer meat should not be eaten with shrimp, raw vegetables, plums, or other fruits; consumption leads to illness. Scraping the horn into powder, roasting it, and taking it with fragrant wine greatly benefits humans. This is recorded in the Biography of Peng Zu.
[Verification] Velvet antler of the deer (Mí róng) has stronger efficacy than that of the sika deer (Lù róng). Boiled into glue, deer horn glue surpasses White Glue (Bái jiāo). The claim that males die after mating is false rumor; inquiries among people in mountains and marshes reveal no such deaths.
