Treats vomiting of saliva and foam caused by stomach cold with excellent effect. Zhang Shangshe, whose name was passed down as Shen Yun, stated that his mother found it effective when taken regularly!
Dingxiang (Clove), Wuzhuyu (Evodia Fruit, soaked in decoction and lightly stir-fried), Guixin (Cinnamon Twig, remove coarse bark, each 1 liang), Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Root, processed, remove skin and umbilical scar), Huang [Text incomplete/variant], Bai [Text incomplete/variant] (remove rhizome nodes, 1.5 liang), Gancao (Licorice Root, 7 qian).
The above ingredients are coarsely crushed. For each dose, take 4 qian, add 1.5 zhan of water, 5 slices of Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger), and 2 Zao (Jujube Dates). Decoct until reduced to 0.7 zhan, strain the dregs, and take at any time.
Treats injuries caused by improper diet, all types of food stagnation, or dysentery with red and white pus/blood that does not heal. If red (blood), administer with Gancao Tang (Licorice Decoction); if white, administer with Ganjiang Tang (Dried Ginger Decoction); if mixed red and white, administer with Gancao Tang. For injuries from alcohol and food, as well as sudden diarrhea, administer with plain boiled water. Take after meals and before bedtime; this is superior to Yinggan Wan (Yinggan Pill). Transmitted by Shen Renfu. Chensha (Cinnabar, finely ground), Sha [Text likely refers to another mineral drug, possibly Zhusha or similar, kept as per source] (finely ground, each 2 qian), Huangla (Yellow Beeswax, 0.5 liang), Badou (Croton Seed, remove shell and skin, select whole seeds, 49 pieces).
First, melt the beeswax in a silver or earthenware vessel. Then add the Croton seeds, boil until they turn black, filter out and discard the seeds. Use only the melted beeswax mixed with the previous two powdered ingredients to form strips. When needed, roll into pills. Adults take 7 pills the size of mung beans; children's dosage should be adjusted according to age. It can be taken by the elderly, children, and postpartum women. It is most effective for treating excessive drinking. Currently, those administering dysentery medicines use Huandan (Lead Tetroxide) instead of Cinnabar, which is also effective. The *Ben Shi Fang* (*Prescriptions Worth a Thousand Pieces of Gold*) uses different amounts of Croton seed for treating diarrhea and dysentery, and its discussion of pathological conditions is very detailed!
Treats discomfort in the chest and diaphragm, indigestion of wine and food, where eating feels sometimes comfortable and sometimes uncomfortable. It effectively treats spleen deficiency with internal stagnation. This is a formula from Ning Andao.
Roudoukou (Nutmeg), Dingxiang (Clove), Muxiang (Aucklandia Root), Sha [Likely Sharen/Cardamom, kept as per source] (each 1 fen), Jingsanleng (Kansui Rhizome/Euphorbia Kansui, often refers to Bletilla or similar in some contexts but usually Sanleng here), Ezhu (Curcuma Rhizome, each 1 liang, roasted to retain charred nature).
Grind the above into fine powder. Use Roumei (Meat of Chinese Plum) as a binder to make pills the size of hemp seeds. Take 14 pills per dose, delivered with hot Zisu Tang (Perilla Leaf Decoction). Take on an empty stomach or before meals.
Treats all types of stagnation due to deficiency, masses in the hypochondriac region, and irregular alternating chills and fever. This formula was frequently used by Doctor Xia Xun at the home of Uncle Wei in Duji while my late father sought refuge in Jinzhou. He regarded it as a miraculous medicine, and it proved effective for critical illnesses. Since the herbs are encased in beeswax, they lose their harsh nature and focus specifically on attacking the pathogen.
Fenshuang (White Arsenic Oxide), Qingfen (Calomel), Sha [Likely Zhusha/Cinnabar or similar, kept as per source], Miduoseng (Litharge), Pishuang (Arsenic Trioxide, each 1 qian), Xionghuang (Realgar), Wuyu Gu (Cuttlefish Bone), Baixiangding (White Sparrow Droppings), Huang [Text incomplete] Yingtiao.
Grind all the above ingredients together into a fine powder. Take 1 liang of Huangla (Yellow Beeswax), melt and mix with the powder to form a paste. Roll into pills the size of small beans. Take 2 to 5 pills per dose. After meals and before bedtime, soak the pills in cold water for one shichen (two hours), then swallow with cold water.
