Treating deficiency of both the Kidney and Bladder, where pathogenic factors knot together, resulting in Cold Hernia (Han Shan). The pathogen lingers without dispersing, causing cramping pain in the umbilical and abdominal regions, unilateral enlargement of the scrotum, heavy dragging sensation with gradual increase in size, hindering walking, incessant itching, intermittent discharge of yellow fluid that macerates into sores, or growth of polyps. Repeated treatments fail to cure. If there is obstruction of Yin and Yang Qi, swelling of the external genitalia, cold and hard as stone, gradually becoming huge—all caused by suddenly ingesting hot-natured drugs internally—this medicine warms and guides Yang Qi, gradually retreating Cold pathogens, tonifying deficiency, eliminating hernias, and warming... [Text implies warming the interior]. After three courses (dosages), miraculous efficacy will surely be achieved. Tang Zhongju transmitted the first course:
Fennel Fruit (Use imported variety, stir-fry with half a liang of sea salt until scorched yellow, weigh together with the salt) Toosendan Fructus (Pao processed, remove seeds) Codonopsis Radix (Wash and cut) Aucklandiae Radix (Wash, each one liang).
Grind the above into fine powder. Boil rice flour in water to make a thick paste for binding. Form pills the size of Sophora seeds. Take 20 pills per dose, administered with warm wine or salted water, on an empty stomach before meals, three times daily. Minor illnesses can be cured with this single course; immediately after finishing it, proceed to the second course.
The second course adds the following herbs:
Long Pepper Fruit (one liang) Areca Seed (half a liang).
Add these to the previous ingredients. Total six herbs, weighing five and a half liang. Grind into fine powder. Prepare pills using the paste method as before, administer with decoction, and follow the same dosage regimen. If the illness is severe and not yet resolved, proceed to the third course.
The third course further adds the following herbs:
Poria (four liang, select those that are tight, small, and solid, remove black skin) Aconite Lateralis Radix Preparata (half a liang, Pao processed, remove rootlet and skin, weigh; may increase to one liang).
Including the previous ingredients, total eight herbs, weighing ten liang. Prepare pills using the paste method as before, administer with decoction, and follow the same dosage regimen. Dosage may be increased to 30 pills. For both new and old, major illnesses, no more than these three courses are needed for recovery. Cases of frequent recurrence of Intestinal Qi disorder (Xiao Chang Qi) lasting thirty years, or Cold Hernias growing as large as a basket, can all be dissipated. Miraculous efficacy.
Treating various diseases of the lower part of the body, two prescriptions from Physician Xia Gong.
Toosendan Fructus (two liang, cut, stir-fried, add twenty grains of Areca Seed [processed] and one liang of Evodiae Fructus, stir-fry together until scorched red, discard Areca Seed and Evodiae) Fennel Fruit (lightly stir-fried) Agarwood (Chen Xiang) Black Pepper Fruit Scorpion (lightly stir-fried, each half a liang) Amomi Fructus Rotundus (two liang, stir-fry dry with skin, remove skin) Aucklandiae Radix (one liang, do not expose to direct fire).
Grind the above into fine powder. Take two qian per dose, mix with wine and take before meals.
