Five Trichosanthis Fructus (Gualou), take the seeds and grind them finely; five pieces of Frankincense (Ruxiang), each as large as a date, also ground finely. With one jin of white sand honey, boil together with the above powders to form an ointment. Take two or three qian per dose, dissolve in warm wine and ingest. This prescription is mainly used to treat Back Carbuncle (Fa Bei, a severe carbuncle on the back) and various malignant sores, etc. Administer twice daily, and it will invariably produce immediate effects. A scholar-official Tongpan from Yanzhou, whose name is forgotten, had his mother fall ill. The Tongpan hurriedly purchased medicines for treatment, and she recovered immediately after taking them. Yang Heyu obtained this prescription; whenever servants in his household suffered from various sores and swellings, they all responded well to this medicine. He then prepared and distributed it to others, with no instance of ineffectiveness. It treats Fistula Sores (Lou Chuang) and Malignant Nodules (E He). This is the miraculous prescription spoken of by Zhu Baoyi of the Zheng Mansion.

Grind Adzuki Bean (Chixiaodou) into a fine powder. Mix with fresh drawn cold water and apply to the sore and the surrounding reddened and swollen areas. Reapply when the medication dries and falls off.
Another prescription for treating Back Carbuncle.
On uncultivated land, locate spots where wild manure has been scattered and damaged by insects and birds. Remove the surface manure with a stick, take the subsoil beneath, sieve it, and apply it to the affected area. It feels as if ice is placed on the back.

Prime Minister Liu stated that one should only eat radish boiled plainly in water, without limit, until the swelling and toxicity dissipate. He used this method repeatedly to treat others, achieving extremely miraculous effects!
To treat Carbuncles and Ulcers (Yong Ju) that have formed hard nodules, causing unbearable pain: According to Volume 8 of "Yijian Geng Zhi," Shi Kangzu received a prescription from the God Zhang of Guangde in a dream.
Remove the skin and hairs from Cyperi Rhizoma (Xiangfu), soak overnight in the natural juice of fresh Ginger (Shengjiang), then grind into a fine powder. Take two qian mixed with rice drink. After several doses, the sore will suppurate and drain pus, and the swelling will gradually subside.

To treat Soft Boils (Ruan Jie) and all kinds of toxic swellings (two prescriptions follow below):
Cortex Phellodendri (Huangpi), Radix Ampelopsis (Bailian), Radix Glycyrrhizae (Gancao).
Grind the above herbs into fine powders in equal parts. Mix with well water, add a little honey, and apply as a paste.

For treating Carbuncles and boils that have not yet formed abscesses, to extract toxins, relieve pain, and reduce swelling.
Concha Margaritifera (Bangfen, half liang), Minium (Huandan, one fen), Rhizoma Aconiti Kusnezoffii (Caowu, one liang, raw, ground into powder).
Mix the above ingredients evenly, dilute with water, and apply topically. Reapply when dry.

For cases presenting with redness and swelling.
One large Rhizoma Pinelliae Preparatum (Tian Nanxing), preferably aged. Grind into a fine powder. Mix with raw wheat flour in equal proportions to the Tian Nanxing powder. Apply to the swollen area using the natural juice of fresh Ginger. For heat-type swellings, mix only with water.
