Shangshe Zhang Shuping transmitted.
Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Guan Gui (Cinnamomi Cortex, peeled), Fu Zi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata, prepared, peeled and navel removed), Bai Shao Yao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), Cao Guo (Tsaoko Fructus, prepared, peeled), Gao Liang Jiang (Alpiniae Officinarum Rhizoma), Huang Qin (Scutellariae Radix, radicle removed, slightly stir-fried, each half liang), Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, honey-fried).
The above herbs are coarsely crushed. For each dose, take four qian, add one dan and a half of water, five slices of fresh ginger, and one jujube. Decoct until three-tenths remain, strain the dregs, and take at any time without restriction.
Prescription from Lu Taicheng.
Tian Luo Ke (Concha Melaniae) and Huang Xian Ke (Concha Corbiculae). These two ingredients: quantity not fixed; those that have been in the soil for many years, especially old ones, are particularly good. Burn them into white ash wherever available.
For each prescription, use four liang of white plum flesh, two liang of Tian Luo Ke ash, and one liang of Huang Xian Ke ash. Mix and knead thoroughly until uniform. Form into pellets, place in a clay box, seal the seams with mud, cover, and roast from the top until charred black but retaining medicinal properties (cun xing). Take out, grind into fine powder. Take two qian per dose, administered with decoction of Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) and Suo Sha Ren (Amomi Fructus Rotundus). Chen Mi Yin (aged rice infusion) is also acceptable. If a clay box is unavailable, use two Jian zhan (Jian ware bowls) placed mouth-to-mouth, and roast according to the previous method. Take before meals. Whenever one feels pain in the heart and abdomen, this is a precursor to Fan Wei (regurgitation/vomiting); this formula is effective.
Zao Zhong Tu (Soil from the stove hearth, using soil from over ten years ago).
Grind the above into a fine powder. Administer three or two qian mixed with rice infusion.
To treat Fan Wei (regurgitation/vomiting) with food expulsion, sour taste in the throat after eating, daily vomiting of yellow fluid, which has not responded to various other prescriptions, taking this Shen Xiao An Pi San (Miraculous Effect Spleen-Anning Powder) yields divine efficacy.
Gao Liang Jiang (Alpiniae Officinarum Rhizoma, one liang, crushed with three or two he of earth from a hundred-year-old wall, boiled dry with two wan of water, sliced thinly), Nan Mu Xiang (Aucklandiae Radix), Cao Guo (Tsaoko Fructus, soaked in flour paste, pulp removed, each half liang), Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, honey-fried, one and a half liang).
Grind all together into a fine powder. Take two large qian per dose. Take on an empty stomach or before meals, mixed with salted rice infusion; salted wine is also acceptable. In the spring of the Jiashen year, I went to Lin'an for business and stayed at Shopkeeper Zhan's inn at Zhu Jia Qiao. Shopkeeper Zhan was over sixty years old, suffering severely from Fan Wei, his condition critical; a coffin was already placed by his bed. As I had an assignment from the Xuan Si and was leaving to bid farewell, he could no longer speak. When I returned from Huai Shang in November and passed his door, I thought this old man had passed away and felt sorrowful. While asking around, this old man came out to welcome and bow to me. His complexion was extremely ruddy, which surprised me greatly. When I asked how, he said: "On the day you left, an official from Sichuan arrived to stay, obtained the medicine, took it a few times, and recovered. He then passed on this prescription. Yesterday I used it in Jian Kang to treat the new bride of Official Zhu Jiyi, and recently to treat the Weina of Yuantong Temple, both achieving effectiveness!" Zhan Cheng Zongshu recorded.
