Treatment for Lung Wind-Stroke. The patient lies supine with chest fullness and shortness of breath, dizziness and stuffiness, and sweating; this is the syndrome of Lung Wind. Observe the area from both sides below the eyes and above the nose, extending down to the mouth; if the color is white, it is still treatable.
Immediately moxa Baihuang (BL13, Lung Shu) 100 cones, and administer Xuming Tang (Cure All Decoction). Reduce the dose for children.
The poem says: Lung wind-stroke causes panting, rapid breathing, and chest fullness; lying supine brings abnormal dryness and irritability. The area between the mouth and nose must be white; seeking clothes and a yellowish complexion indicate lung deterioration, causing worry.
*Zisheng Jing* records that Master Wang said: If it is acute jaundice, this indicates the lung is already damaged and transformed into blood, which cannot be treated again. If struck by acute wind-pathogen, one will become confused and hallucinating, speaking nonsense, or have shortness of breath and inability to speak. If not treated promptly by a physician, death will occur within a day or night. Once noticed, immediately moxa Baihuang (BL13), Geshu (BL17), and Ganshu (BL18) dozens of cones each, and urgently administer Xuming Tang (Cure All Decoction) to save the patient. If saliva and phlegm flow out uncontrollably, apply moxibustion immediately and provide medicine. Other Yang meridians affected by wind also present with confusion and hallucinations, similar to lung disease, but the course is slower, leading to death after a long period.
Treatment for Liver Wind-Stroke. The patient can only sit in a squatting position and cannot lower the head; the skin around both eyes and the forehead has a slight bluish tint; this is the syndrome of Liver Wind. If the lips are blue and the face is yellow, it is still treatable.
Immediately moxa Ganshu (BL18, Liver Shu) 100 cones, and administer Xuming Tang (Cure All Decoction).
The poem says: Liver wind-stroke involves squatting and inability to lower the head; pain on the left hypochondrium and tendon stiffness. Bluish forehead, eyes, and lips are treatable; yellow or white eyes cause sorrow.
Treatment for Heart Wind-Stroke. The patient can only lie supine and cannot turn to the side; chest oppression, confusion, fainting, and cold sweating occur; this is the syndrome of Heart Wind. If the lips are bright red, it is still treatable.
Immediately moxa Xinshu (BL15, Heart Shu) 100 cones, and administer Xuming Tang (Cure All Decoction).
The poem says: Heart wind-stroke presents with supine posture, fever, and aphonia; red lips and body sweat. Seeing green, white, black, or yellow on the lips requires constant vigilance, startling the physician.
Treatment for Spleen Wind-Stroke. The patient can only sit in a squatting position with abdominal fullness, generalized yellowing of the body, and vomiting of salty sweat; this is still treatable.
Immediately moxa Pishu (BL20, Spleen Shu) 100 cones, and administer Xuming Tang (Cure All Decoction).
The poem says: Spleen wind-stroke features muscle flaccidity, squatting posture, abdominal fullness, and vomiting of salty-sour substances. Yellow lips and limbs, along with bluish nails on hands and feet, are difficult to treat.
Treatment for Kidney Wind-Stroke. The patient squats and has lower back pain; observing the left and right hypochondriac regions, if yellow patches appear, large as a cake, it is still treatable.
Immediately moxa Shenshu (BL23, Kidney Shu) 100 cones, and administer Xuming Tang (Cure All Decoction).
The poem says: Kidney wind-stroke involves squatting and lumbar-spinal pain; facial edema and black ears indicate invasion by thief-wind. Absence of yellow traces on the hypochondrium allows recovery; direct onset leads to collapse like a clay figure, with death imminent.
Treatment for Stomach Wind-Stroke. Abdominal fullness and blockage, obstruction of qi mechanism, open-mouthed panting, and excessive sweating on the forehead. Sun Dixian referred to "taking new food as stomach qi" as meaning this.
Some say: Wind pathogens affect the Zang organs but not the Fu organs; this is one viewpoint. However, the Stomach is the sea of water and grain, and all five Zang organs derive qi from the Stomach; thus, they are discussed together.
Immediately moxa Weishu (BL21, Stomach Shu) 100 cones, and administer Xuming Tang (Cure All Decoction).
The poem says: Stomach disease originates from diet; raising shoulders and panting makes qi difficult to release. Open mouth, forehead sweat, abdominal fullness, and a large pulse upon superficial palpation of both wrists.
Treatment for Large Intestine Wind-Stroke. Borborygmus continues while lying down.
Moxa Dachangshu (BL25, Large Intestine Shu) 100 cones; Xuming Tang (Cure All Decoction) may be administered.
For wind-stroke causing ptosis (eyes fixed upward) and aphonia.
Moxa ten cones each at the level of the first thoracic vertebra and the fifth thoracic vertebra. Apply fire columns the size of half a jujube pit simultaneously; cure is immediate.
For wind-stroke causing hemiplegia. *Zisheng Jing* records: The Yellow Emperor asked Qibo: How to moxa for wind-stroke with hemiplegia? Qibo answered: One to two months, or three to five months before wind-stroke, during non-seasonal times, sudden soreness, heaviness, numbness, and bi-syndrome in the lower legs and shins, lasting a long time before resolving, are signs of impending wind-stroke. Immediately moxa Sanli (ST36) and Jiegu (GB39) at four locations, three cones each. Afterwards, wash with decoction of scallion, mint, peach leaves, and willow leaves to drive out wind-pathogen from the moxa sores. Regarding moxa sores, spring moxa is better than autumn, and autumn is better than spring; it is ideal to maintain moxa sores on both feet constantly.
For sudden wind-stroke with slurred speech and hemiplegia due to irregular diet and excess alcohol/sexual activity. Apply fire at seven locations simultaneously, three cones each. If wind is on the left, moxa the right; if on the right, moxa the left.
Acupoints: Baihui (GV20), hairline anterior to ears, Jianjing (GB21), Fengshi (GB31), Sanli (ST36), Jiegu (GB39), Quchi (LI11). These seven acupoints are highly effective; details cannot be fully recorded. Moxa according to method; no failure.
For wind invading the Fu organs, causing involuntary movement of hands and feet. Symptoms include numbness or pain in hands and feet, resolving after a long time; these are signs of wind entering the Fu. Disease on the left moxa the right; disease on the right moxa the left. Delaying moxa leads to disability. Regarding moxa sores, spring moxa is better than autumn, and autumn is better than spring; remove all wind-pathogen. *Jixiao Fang* considers this effective.
Acupoints: Baihui (GV20), Qubin (GB7, alternatively hairline), Jian (shoulder), Quchi (LI11), Fengshi (GB31), Zusanli (ST36), Jiegu (GB39).
For wind invading the Zang organs, with qi obstruction, rising phlegm, aphonia, and extreme danger. Fire application yields immediate effect. Symptoms include mental confusion and displeasure, or numbness in hands and feet; these are signs of wind entering the Zang. Regardless of whether it is wind or qi, moxa five cones each from top to bottom in sequence. Additionally, moxa one cone per year of age daily. During spring and autumn, frequently moxa to vent wind-pathogen. Those with chronic wind conditions can be protected. This method can treat sudden collapse.
Acupoints: Baihui (GV20), Fengchi (GB20), Dazhui (GV14), Jianjing (GB21), Quchi (LI11), Jiashi (PC5), Zusanli (ST36).
*Jixiao Fang* states: Nothing treats wind better than Xuming Tang (Cure All Decoction), Fangfeng Paifeng Tang (Saposhnikovia Wind-Expelling Decoction), etc., which support health against disease. For emergency rescue, moxa-moxibustion is best. This argument is appropriate.
*Zisheng Jing* records: Fan Zimo, in May of the Renwu year, had facial deviation; moxa Tinghui (GB2) and three other acupoints, and it corrected. Right hand and foot were numb and weak; moxa Baihui (GV20) and seven other acupoints including the hairline, and he recovered. In August of the Guiwei year, qi was obstructed with rising phlegm, unable to speak; took Jinhu Dan (Golden Tiger Pill) mixed with Nifen (Calomel) up to 4.5 pills. Qi did not pass, phlegm did not descend; medicine exited through the nose. Soul felt flying, as if falling into a lake; nearly died in an instant. Moxa Baihui (GV20) and Fengchi (GB20) and other acupoints, twelve in total on both sides; qi then passed, vomited about one bowl of phlegm, followed by more than ten bowel movements. Lying in bed for over half a month, he stabilized. Afterwards, his consciousness felt slightly different from usual; whenever mentally confused, he immediately moxa Baihui (GV20) and Fengchi (GB20) with immediate effect.
*Benshi Fang* states: The twelve acupoints refer to: Tinghui (GB2), Jiache (ST6), Dicang (ST4), Baihui (GV20), Jianjing (GB21), Quchi (LI11), Fengshi (GB31), Zusanli (ST36), Jiegu (GB39), hairline, Dazhui (GV14), Fengchi (GB20). Using them as such yields immediate effect.
Whenever qi is obstructed with rising phlegm and aphonia, it is a sign of Heart Wind. Chao Yuanfang's *Zhubing Yuanhou Lun* often discusses this. Ancient formulas state that only supine posture, chest oppression, fainting, and sweating are signs of Heart Wind, which is likely incomplete. Fan Gong achieved qi passage via moxa, likely due to the power of Baihui (GV20). His vomiting of one bowl of phlegm and ten bowel movements—was it caused by taking Jinhu Dan (Golden Tiger Pill) with Nifen (Calomel)?

Master Wang said: A villager suddenly felt intense heat in the heart and abdomen, went to a pharmacy to describe symptoms; the pharmacist considered it a sign of wind-stroke and gave wind-treating medicine, but the wind did not manifest. I kept this in mind. Arriving in Yiling, I saw a prefect who suddenly suffered severe heat in midsummer, sprinkled water on the ground, lay on a bamboo mat, and had someone fan him. The next day he suddenly had wind-stroke and died in a few days. People blamed him for lying on the cool mat and using a fan. Arriving in Liyang, I saw an old woman who also suffered heat in summer, slept in the hall overnight, and had wind-stroke the next day. Her son had prepared Xiao Xuming Tang (Minor Cure All Decoction) for her to take, and summoned a doctor for further care; she recovered in a few days. Thus, I realized that wind-stroke in humans often follows internal heat in the heart and abdomen, and Xiao Xuming Tang (Minor Cure All Decoction) must be taken. When Magistrate Wang suffered from wind, the physician combined Qingzhou Baiwanzi (Qingzhou White Pills), Paifeng Tang (Wind-Expelling Decoction), Xuming Tang (Cure All Decoction), Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction), Huangqi Jianzhong Tang (Astragalus Middle-Building Decoction), Shufu Tang (Atractylodes and Aconite Decoction), and Jiahe San (Harmonizing Grain Powder), mixed them, and divided the dose. Each dose: one bowl of water, three jujubes, five slices of ginger, decocted to 70%, strained, and taken warm. Since then, it was effective for everyone. Zhou Huchuan transmitted Three Decoctions and Four Powders, using Sijunzi Tang (Four Gentlemen Decoction), Paifeng Tang (Wind-Expelling Decoction), Xuming Tang (Cure All Decoction), Jiahe Ji Feng Zhengqi Yunqi San (Harmonizing Grain, Urgent Wind, Upright Qi, and Regulating Qi Powder); all wind diseases were cured. He also said: For all wind-stroke, using Xuming Tang (Cure All Decoction), Paifeng Tang (Wind-Expelling Decoction), Shenjing Dan (Spirit Essence Pill), Yinyu Jiu (Ilex Wine), plus moxa guarantees cure.
