The ailments of infants are detailed and profound. They silently endure illness, unable to speak for themselves. Some diseases are contracted in the womb, while others result from wind-pathogen invasion after birth. Onset occurs at unpredictable times, with varying cold and heat symptoms. Referring to various medical texts, there are numerous categories of medicine. If pharmaceuticals fail to cure, moxibustion becomes the sole reliance. However, these methods are scattered across various meridian treatises, with verbose texts and differing theories. If acupoint localization is erroneous, the treatment of disease will be entirely flawed. By consulting various Mingtang (Meridian Acupoint) diagrams, we have carefully selected over seventy acupoints verified for pediatric efficacy. These are points that have been used repeatedly with miraculous results. They are recorded below:
Center of the hair whorl on the vertex (and the cyanotic collateral vessels behind the ears; moxa cones the size of a wheat grain, three moxibustions per point, treating infantile convulsive epilepsy. Symptoms manifest as initial palpitations and crying, followed by seizure onset).
Hairline above the nasal bridge (in the depression; three moxibustions, moxa cone the size of a wheat grain, treating infantile wind-epilepsy. Symptoms manifest as flexing fingers as if counting objects, followed by seizure onset).
Chize (LU5) bilateral (located in the center of the transverse cubital crease, approximately at the arterial pulse; one moxibustion per point, moxa cone the size of a wheat grain, treating infantile slackened convulsive wind).
Between the thumb and index finger of the hand (1.5 cun posteriorly in the depression; three moxibustions per point, moxa cone the size of a wheat grain, treating sudden bilateral redness of eyes in children aged two to three years).
Five fen above and below the umbilicus (two points; three moxibustions per point, moxa cone the size of a wheat grain, treating unclosed fontanelle in infants. Applicable when the fontanelle closes prematurely before the moxa sore develops).
Zhongchong (PC9) (one fen posterior to the nail bed of the middle finger; one moxibustion, moxa cone the size of a wheat grain, treating nocturnal crying in infants, specifically cases where crying persists from lighting lamps until cockcrow).
Xuanji (CV15) (one cun inferior to Tiantu (CV22) in the depression; three moxibustions, moxa cone the size of a wheat grain, treating wheezing sounds in the throat and difficulty suckling milk in infants).
Juque (CV14) (one cun inferior to Jiutui (CV15) in the depression; three moxibustions, moxa cone the size of a wheat grain, treating porcine-type epilepsy in infants. The condition resembles corpse-like rigidity, with mouth foaming).
Epilepsy is a malignant disease in infants. Cases of death or severe distress due to the inability to summon a physician within the brief span of breathing are not uncommon. As the proverb states: "Without good physicians in the state, half of the dead die in vain."
Three fen superior to the transverse cubital crease upon flexion of the elbow (one moxibustion per side, moxa cone the size of a wheat grain, treating startle during sleep and inability to close eyes in infants).
Laogong (PC8) bilateral (located in the center of the palm; identified by the tip of the ring finger touching this point when the finger is curled; one moxibustion per point, moxa cone the size of a wheat grain, treating oral ulcers and gingival rot with offensive breath in infants).
Hand Shaoyin Heart Meridian (0.5 cun distal to the wrist crease in the depression; three moxibustions, moxa cone the size of a wheat grain, treating avian-type epilepsy characterized by excessive fright and spontaneous limb jerking in infants).
Neiting (ST44) (in the depression between the lateral aspect of the great toe and the second toe; one moxibustion per point, moxa cone the size of a wheat grain, treating persistent malaria in infants).
