Master Wang said: Shoulder and back soreness and pain have been discussed in detail in various acupuncture treatises. One should apply acupuncture and moxibustion according to the specific symptoms. If the pain starts in the back and then radiates to the shoulder, it is caused by pathology in the Gao Huang (Bladder 43) area. The *Qianjin Fang* and *Waitai Mi Yao* indeed state that pressing this area elicits a sensation of radiation to the shoulder. One should moxa Gao Huangshu (BL43), and the shoulder and back pain will cease naturally.
I once suffered from shoulder and back pain. After moxaing Gao Huangshu, the pain did not subside. I then moxaed Jianjing (GB21) for three moxa cones, and the pain was cured. From this, I know that although moxaing Gao Huang is effective, other points must not be neglected; they are indispensable.
