Parasites are born with humans and hide in obscure places within the body. Their harm to humans stems fundamentally from a deficiency of Zhengqi (Vital Qi). If one consumes raw or cold foods and is simultaneously affected by Wind pathogen, various types of worm disorders may arise. The medicinal herbs and formulas for treating these conditions are as follows:
Guanzhong Wan (Cistanche Pill, from *Shenghui Fang*) treats the activation of the Nine Worms, which gives rise to various diseases.
Ingredients include: Guanzhong (*Cyathulae Radix*), Shican (mildly stir-fried, each 1 liang 1 fen), Yelangya (*Acanthopanacis Tricosti Radix*), Lugan (*Reed Rhizome*, mildly stir-fried), Shuqi (*Perillae Folium*), Baijiangcan (White Silkworm, mildly stir-fried), Houpo (*Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex*, stripped of rough bark and processed with ginger juice). These ingredients are mixed with refined honey to form pills. Take at noon and before going to bed. Another version of this formula does not contain Houpo; yet another version contains Binglang (*Arecae Semen*).
Shiliuzhi Tang (Pomegranate Branch Decoction) treats the Nine Worms. Symptoms include stabbing pain in the abdomen due to worm movement, spitting clear saliva, dark and yellowish complexion, and heart pain caused by worms attacking the heart.
Ingredients include: Eastward-growing Pomegranate Branch (*Punica Granatum Branch*, 3 liang), Muxiang (*Aucklandiae Radix*), Chenpi (*Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium*, soaked in hot water, white pith removed, and dried), Wuzhuyu (*Evodiae Fructus*, washed in hot water, dried, and stir-fried, each 1 liang 5 fen), Dahuang (*Rhei Radix et Rhizoma*, baked). After decoction, strain and take warm on an empty stomach. If vomiting occurs, add a small amount of Shexiang (*Moschus*).
Shexiang Wan (Musk Pill) treats the Nine Worms.
Ingredients include: Huanglian (*Coptidis Rhizoma*, remove stamens, 1 liang), Baiwuyi (*Chrysanthemi Indici Flos*, stir-fried, 2 liang), Gan Xama (Dried Toad, one piece, fried in butter until yellow and charred), Ganqi (Dried Resin of Toxicodendron vernicifluum, stir-fried until smoke appears, 1 liang), Leiwan (*Waniliae Sclerotium*). Mix into a paste to form pills, sized like Sophora seeds (*Sophorae Japonicae Fructus*).
Shexiang Wan (Musk Pill, from *Shenghui Fang*) treats the Nine Worms.
Ingredients include: Shexiang (*Moschus*, half liang, finely ground), Xijiaoxie (Rhino Horn, 1 liang), Xionghuang (*Realgar*, half liang, finely ground), Gansui (*Kansui Radix*, 1 liang, baked until yellow), Badou (*Crotonis Fructus*, half liang, remove heart and skin). Mix to form pills, sized like Sophora seeds.
Binglang San (Areca Powder, from *Shenghui Fang*) treats the Nine Worms. If worms reside in the Zang-Fu organs for a long time and multiply through reproduction, this formula helps expel them.
Ingredients include: Binglang (*Arecae Semen*, 1 liang), Wuyiren (*Chrysanthemi Indici Semen*, half liang), Yelangya (*Acanthopanacis Tricosti Radix*, 1 fen), Bailian (*Iris Tectorii Rhizoma*, 1 fen), Heshi (*Narthecii Spatha*, 1 fen, mildly stir-fried on paper). Grind all ingredients into a fine powder.
Jizi Wan (Egg Pill, from *Zhouhou Fang*) treats the Nine Worms.
Ingredients include: Chicken Egg (remove shell, two eggs), Haoqi (Good Lacquer, filtered through silk, 4 liang), La (Beeswax, 3 liang), Jingmi Fen (Glutinous Rice Flour, half jin). First, melt the lacquer and wax in a copper pot, then mix with other ingredients.
Yelangya San (Acanthopanax Powder, from *Shenghui Fang*) treats the Nine Worms residing in the intestines and stomach, causing mental restlessness, vomiting, and expulsion of worms.
Ingredients include: Yelangya (*Acanthopanacis Tricosti Radix*), Heshi (*Narthecii Spatha*, mildly stir-fried on paper), Guanzhong (*Cyathulae Radix*), Wuyiren (*Chrysanthemi Indici Semen*—each of the above 1 liang). Grind into a fine powder. Take 1 qian per dose, mixed with rice gruel liquid.
Wuyi San (Chrysanthemum Seed Powder, from *Shenghui Fang*) treats the Nine Worms.
Ingredients include: Baiwuyiren (*Chrysanthemi Indici Semen*, half liang), Yelangya (*Acanthopanacis Tricosti Radix*, half liang), Binglang (*Arecae Semen*, 3 fen), Shili Genpi (*Punica Granatum Root Bark*, 3 fen). Sieve finely to make a powder. Take daily on an empty stomach.
Gouji San (Dogspine Powder, from *Shenghui Fang*) treats the Nine Worms.
Ingredients include: Gouji (*Cibotii Rhizoma*, 1 liang), Xiong (*Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma*, 1 liang), Xixin (*Asari Radix et Rhizoma*, 1 liang), Baiwuyi (*Chrysanthemi Indici Flos*, 1 liang). Grind into a fine powder. Take after the third watch of the night, preceded by eating dried beef.
