When "Gu Zei" (referring to impaction of foreign bodies such as grain awns or thorns) occurs in the throat, it manifests as nodular swelling and pain in the pharynx, obstructing food and fluid intake, accompanied by chest stuffiness. This is caused by accidentally ingesting short spikes from cereal plants; their sharp edges lodge tightly in the throat, feeling like a fishbone stuck, unable to move up or down. If complicated by wind-heat pathogens, the nodular swelling will not subside. If not treated urgently, it may also be fatal.
Formulas:
Yaxiang San (Tusk Powder): Treats Gu Zei in the throat, with symptoms resembling a stuck fishbone that cannot move up or down, accompanied by pain and chest stuffiness.
Elephant Tusk (ground into powder, 1 fen) Licorice Root (large pieces, 1 cun long) Talcum (0.5 fen) Mung Bean Starch (2 liang) Curcuma Aromatica (small piece) Frankincense (ground)
Wuweizi Tang (Schisandra Decoction): Treats Gu Zei in the throat, characterized by nodular swelling, pain, and obstruction of food intake.
Schisandra Fruit (stir-fried, 1.5 liang) Dried Ginger (processed) Ophiopogon Tuber (heart removed, baked) Cinnamon Twig (bark removed, each 1 liang) Mulberry Root Bark (cut and stir-fried, 3 liang)

Formula for Treating Gu Zei (from *Zhizhi Fang*):

Maren San (Hemp Seed Powder) (from *San Yin Fang*): Treats Gu Zei. Sensation of itching in the throat due to "corpse qi" blockage, caused by accidentally swallowing grain awns that prick and irritate the throat, leading to itching and pain.
