Sudden deafness is caused by deficiency of Kidney Qi, allowing Wind pathogen to invade. The pathogen clashes with the meridians and collaterals, following the blood vessels upward into the ear. When Righteous Qi (Zheng Qi) and Pathogenic Qi collide, it results in sudden loss of hearing.
