The syndrome of carbuncle and ulcer accompanied by vexation and thirst is caused by heat qi scorching the five zang organs, leading to a deficiency of body fluids internally. When Ying (Nutritive) and Wei (Defensive) Qi and Blood rot and transform into pus and blood, body fluids must be consumed. Once body fluids are depleted, heat qi becomes more prosperous, causing internal vexation of the Heart Spirit, thereby inducing continuous drinking. However, if vomiting, hiccups, or diarrhea occur, it is due to deficient-heat in the five zang organs; excessive water intake overwhelms the insufficient Qi, causing Qi rebellion upwards leading to vomiting and hiccups, while unstable intestines and stomach lead to diarrhea. This belongs to malignant syndromes of carbuncles and ulcers.
Patients suffering from ulcer diseases often, after appearing to recover, suddenly develop thirst that proves untreatable, with eight or nine out of ten cases resulting in death. If the ulcer disease is about to heal but thirst has already appeared, one should immediately take Jiaban Bawei Wan (Modified Eight-Ingredient Pill with Rehmannia). If the disease appears stable but thirst symptoms have not yet manifested, one should also take this medicine in advance to prevent its occurrence. If the disease form has already appeared, sudden treatment is difficult. After carbuncles and ulcers, tonic medicines should be taken; however, if harsh tonics are used, fever will result. Moreover, after recovering from ulcer diseases, patients often transition into thirst syndromes which are difficult to treat. One should take Jiaban Bawei Wan in advance. If taken for a long time, one will never suffer from thirst again, and Qi and Blood will become stronger. For those who have not yet developed ulcers, or who previously had thirst symptoms, they should also take this medicine. Once the thirst is stabilized, the ulcer will not develop.
When carbuncles and ulcers generate heat and induce thirst, and toxic factors are vigorous, one should urgently take Shenxian Zhuidu Wan (Immortal's Poison-Chasing Pill), taking one dose daily to expel evil toxins. Subsequently, Qing Shan Tang (Clear Chest Decoction), Wan Quan San (Perfect Safety Powder), Wuxiang Lianqiao Tang (Five-Spice Forsythia Decoction), Liuwei Che'ao San (Six-Ingredient Tridacna Powder), and Qianjin Loulu Tang (Thousand-Gold Cuscuta Decoction) can be selected. If diarrhea occurs followed by persistent thirst, use Shengjin Buqi Michuan Jinfen San (Secret Golden Powder for Generating Fluids and Tonifying Qi), Renshen Huangqi San (Ginseng and Astragalus Powder), or Neibu San (Internal Tonic Powder). Once body fluids are generated and Qi and Blood are substantial, thirst will stop naturally.

The above herbs are made into fine powder, refined honey pills the size of Sophora seeds. At dawn before speaking, swallow 30-40 pills with warm wine or salt water. Miraculous efficacy. Someone suffered from ulcer disease, developed thirst before healing, drinking several sheng of water a day. Physicians used Mugua (Chaenomelis Fructus), Zisu (Perillae Folium), Wumei (Mume Fructus), Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Fuling (Polyporus), Baiyaojian (Myrobalan) etc., fluids-generating and thirst-stopping medicines. Long-term use worsened thirst with no effect after days. I used this medicine; thirst stopped in three days. Long-term use not only prevented thirst but strengthened Qi and Blood, doubled appetite, and restored vigor beyond youth. Another scholar suffered from thirst for years without relief; recovered in less than half a year with this. Why? The disease originated from Kidney Water exhaustion, unable to moisten upwards, causing Heart Fire to flare up without intersection, boiling and generating thirst. Physicians mistakenly used Spleen-awakening and fluid-generating medicines. Now, Bawei Wan lowers Heart Fire and generates Kidney Water, stopping thirst naturally. Zhen Bei Wuweizi is most effective, generating Kidney Water and balancing/descending Heart Qi. If thirst has already appeared, take Jiaban Bawei Wan immediately; if stable but no thirst, take in advance to prevent. If disease form appears, sudden cure is hard. Post-carbuncle/ulcer, tonics are needed, but harsh tonics cause fever. After recovery, patients often develop untreatable thirst. Preemptively take Jiaban Bawei Wan. Long-term use prevents thirst and strengthens Qi/Blood. For those not yet having ulcers or with prior thirst, taking this stabilizes thirst and prevents ulcers.
