所谓胎赤眼，是因为胎儿在母体中时，母亲食用了五种辛味食物（葱、蒜、韭、薤、兴渠），以及服用了热性药物，导致邪热传入胞宫和脏腑。胎儿禀受了这种体内的邪热，等到出生后，双眼就会发红溃烂。
《龙木论》说：患胎患内障等眼病的时候，都是因为乳母饮食违背常理，调养失当，吃了热性的面食、五辛以及各种有毒的丹药。热气积聚在腹中，由此导致胎儿在母体内就患上眼疾。孩子出生到五岁期间，不说话、不笑、不看东西，父母这才发觉。此时必须赶紧服用此药进行调养，不宜使用各种毒药点眼，也不宜用火烧灼头面部。直到年满十五岁以后，才能看清眼内翳膜的形状，如果是青白色的，固定遮挡瞳仁，但还能分辨光线的明暗，这时才可以让医生用金针拨治。小儿内障，大多不容易治愈，需要仔细诊察，然后才能进行医疗。适宜服用护睛丸，这样就不会损伤眼睛了。
歌诀说：内障为何会发生在小儿身上？是因为在胎中受热，导致脑脂下垂。初生时没有察觉，到了三岁流泪，眼神流转迟缓，转眼珠也显得迟钝。到了四五岁时，说话……
又说：小儿内障尚且不能轻易医治，时机完全难以确定是否适宜治疗。如果父母先活到八十岁，金针十次拨治如同云开雾散。（注：原文此处有缺漏或错简，意指病程漫长或治疗困难）。痴心于炙烙烧灼……之时……后……

The condition known as "Fetal Red Eye" (Tai Chi Yan) arises because, during gestation, the mother consumed five pungent foods (garlic, chives, leeks, scallions, and asafoetida) and took heat-inducing medicines. This transmitted pathogenic heat to the uterus and internal organs. The fetus inherited this internal pathogenic heat. Upon birth, both eyes become red and ulcerated.
The *Longmu Lun* states: When suffering from fetal cataracts or other eye disorders, it is often due to the nursing mother having irregular dietary habits, improper care, consuming heat-producing wheat noodles, five pungent foods, and various toxic alchemical pills. Heat accumulates in the abdomen, thereby causing the fetus to develop eye diseases in utero. From birth until age five, the child does not speak, smile, or look around; parents only realize this later. It is urgent to administer this medicine for conditioning. One should not use various toxic drops for the eyes, nor apply burning moxibustion or cautery to the head and face. Only after reaching age fifteen can the shape of the intraocular pterygium or opacity be clearly distinguished. If it is greenish-white, fixed over the pupil, but the patient can still distinguish light and darkness, then a golden needle may be used by a physician to displace the opacity. Pediatric cataracts are generally difficult to treat; careful examination is required before medical intervention. It is advisable to take *Hujing Wan* (Eye-Protecting Pill) so as not to damage the eyes.
A verse says: Why do cataracts occur in children? Because they were heated in the womb, causing brain fat to sag. No symptoms were noticed at birth, but by age three, tears flow, and the gaze is slow, with delayed eye movements. By ages four or five, speech...
