Treats Baihu Lijie (White Tiger Intermittent Joint Pain), various wind-induced pains that wander without a fixed location, feeling as if bitten by insects, quiet during the day and severe at night, as well as all sudden unexplained pains in the hands and feet.
Chuanwu (Radix Aconiti Lateralis Preparata) - three large octagonal ones, raw; Quanxie (Scorpio) - twenty-one pieces, raw; Heidou (Semen Sojae Nigrum) - twenty-one grains, raw; Dilong (Pheretima) - half tael, raw.
Grind the above into a fine powder, add Shexiang (Moschus) half zi, grind together until uniform, use glutinous rice paste to form pills the size of mung beans. Take seven pills per dose, ten pills for severe cases. Ensure the epigastrium is empty before sleep at night, take with warm wine. When a slight cold sweat covers the whole body, the illness will resolve.
I obtained this prescription, and for any Lijie or unexplained pain, it resolves after one or two doses. While in Shechuan, there was a noblewoman who suffered from wandering pain throughout her body, which flared up at night, feeling as if insects were biting her muscles. Many treated it as a ghostly affliction. I said, "This is precisely Lijie disease," and she recovered after three doses.
Lijie is suitable for treatment via diaphoresis (sweating method).
Mahuang (Herba Ephedrae) - one tael and one fen, remove roots and nodes; Qianghuo (Rhizoma et Radix Notopterygii) - one tael, remove rhizome; Huangqin (Radix Scutellariae) - three fen, remove peel; Xixin (Herba Asari) - genuine Huayin variety, remove leaves; Huangqi (Radix Astragali) - half tael each, honey-fried.
Grind the above into a coarse powder. Take five qian per dose, add two zhan of water, decoct until eight fen remains, remove dregs, and take warm. Continue for three to four doses, aiming for sweating and aversion to wind.
Treats Lijie swelling, fullness, and pain.
Yinyu (Caulis Epimedii) - remove stems, cut for use; Zhusha (Cinnabaris) - processed by water flotation; Yiyiren (Semen Coicis) - one fen each; Qianniuzi (Semen Phyllanthi) - one tael and half; Yuliren (Semen Pruni) - half tael, remove peel and tips, lightly stir-fried.
Grind the above into a fine powder, pound with refined honey, form pills the size of mulberry seeds, coat with Qingfen (Calomelas). Take ten to fifteen, up to twenty pills per dose. Take with warm water at the beginning of the fifth watch (early morning). If no bowel movement occurs by evening, take one or two more doses. The goal is rapid purgation, followed by recuperation with white rice porridge.
Treats wind-heat transforming into Lijie, attacking the fingers, causing redness, swelling, numbness, and even attacking the shoulders, back, and both knees. It flares up with summer heat or constipation.
Niubangzi (Fructus Arctii) - three taels, stir-fried between papers; Xin Douchi (Faba Fermentata) - stir-fried; Qianghuo (Rhizoma et Radix Notopterygii) - one tael each, remove rhizome; Gan Shengdihuang (Radix Rehmanniae Preparata) - two taels and half; Huangqi (Radix Astragali) - one tael and half, honey-fried.
Grind the above into a fine powder. Mix with liquid and take two qian per dose. Take on an empty stomach before meals, three times daily. This disease often involves phlegm accumulation in the chest and diaphragm; over time, it causes redness and swelling, attaching to the joints, lingering indefinitely, eventually becoming Lifeng (Severe Wind). This was forewarned by Sun Simiao. (Lifeng refers to violent thief-wind injuring the five zang organs. Volume VIII, Chapter 3 'Thief-Wind' of *Qianjin Fang* states that all such conditions involve deficiency-cold of the five zang organs damaged by Lifeng, with detailed moxibustion treatments corresponding to each symptom.)
