( Zhiqiao [Bitter Orange]) one qian (do not use if deficiency is severe).
Add one and a half zhong of water, decoct until seven or eight parts remain, and take before meals. If there is Qi deficiency, adding Renshen (Ginseng) is harmless; if there is Fire, add Huangqin (Scutellaria); if there is Kidney deficiency, add Shudi (Prepared Rehmannia Root).
Dihuang Li (Rehmannia Wine): Treats conditions in men and women such as insufficiency of essence and blood, and unfulfilled Ying (Nutritive) and Wei (Defensive) qi. It is suitable to prepare this for regular use.
Da Huai Shu Di (Large Huai Prepared Rehmannia Root) (select those with extremely sweet taste, bake and sun-dry to remove moisture, eight liang), Chenxiang (Agarwood) (one qian, or Baitan [White Sandalwood] three fen is also acceptable), Gouqi (Goji Berry) (select the plump ones, also bake and sun-dry to remove dampness, four liang).
For approximately one jin of each herb, soak in ten jin of high-proof distilled liquor. Boiling is not necessary; simply soak for more than ten days, and it is ready for use. Those taking this should not drink excessively. After finishing, add six or seven jin of liquor, soak again for half a month, and it can still be used.
Guishen Wan (Kidney-Nourishing Pill): Treats syndromes of insufficient true Yin of Kidney Water, decline of essence and scarcity of blood, soreness and weakness of the waist and legs, emaciation and haggard appearance, seminal emission and impotence. This is a secondary formula following Zuogui Wan (Left Restoring Pill) and Yougui Wan (Right Restoring Pill).
Shu Di (Prepared Rehmannia Root) (eight liang), Shanyao (Chinese Yam) (four liang), Shanzhuyu (Cornus Fruit flesh) (four liang), Fuling (Poria) (four liang), Danggui (Angelica Sinensis) (three liang), Gouqi (Goji Berry) (four liang), Duzhong (Eucommia Bark) (stir-fried with salt water, four liang), Tusizi (Cuscuta Seed) (processed, four liang).

Xuyuren (Charred Human Hair) (eight liang), Shu Di (Prepared Rehmannia Root) (eight liang, steamed and mashed), Gouqi (Goji Berry), Danggui (Angelica Sinensis), Lujiaojiao (Deer Antler Glue) (fried into beads), Tusizi (Cuscuta Seed) (processed), Duzhong (Eucommia Bark) (stir-fried with salt water), Ba Ji (Morinda Root) (flesh, soaked in wine, core removed, stir-fried dry), Xiaohuixiang (Fennel) (slightly stir-fried), Bai Fuling (White Poria) (mixed with milk, steamed and cooked), Rou Cong Rong (Cistanche Stem) (washed with wine, scales removed), Hutaorou (Walnut Kernel) (each four liang), Heshouwu (Polygonum Multiflorum Root) (steamed seven times mixed with black soybean juice; if black soybeans are unavailable, mixing with human or cow milk for steaming is also excellent, four liang), Renshen (Ginseng) (use as needed, absence is acceptable).
Make pills with refined honey. Take two or three qian before each meal, delivered with boiling white water. For seminal slipperiness, add Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome) and Shanyao (Chinese Yam) three liang each; for loose stools, remove Rou Cong Rong and add Buguzhi (Psoralea Fruit) stir-fried with wine, four liang; for Yang deficiency, add Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Root) and Rougui (Cinnamon Bark).
Yangyuan Fen (Yuan-Nourishing Powder): Greatly strengthens Spleen and nourishes Stomach Qi.

Grind into powder. When hungry daily, take one bowl of boiling water, dissolve three spoons of white sugar, mix in one to two liang of the medicine powder, and take. Adding Sijunzi Tang (Four Gentlemen Decoction) and Shanzha Rou (Hawthorn Flesh) one to two liang each is even better.
Xuanwu Dou (Black Tortoise Bean):
Yang Yaozi (Sheep Kidneys) (fifty), Gouqi (Goji Berry) (two jin), Buguzhi (Psoralea Fruit) (one jin), Dahuixiang (Star Anise) (six liang), Xiaohuixiang (Fennel) (six liang), Rou Cong Rong (Cistanche Stem) (twelve liang, remove if stools are slippery), Qingyan (Green Salt) (eight liang, if no Rou Cong Rong, use twelve liang here), Daheidou (Large Black Soybeans) (one dou, round and clean, washed thoroughly).
Use two dou of sweet water, boil the previous seven herbs in a clay pot until semi-dry, remove herb residues, add black soybeans, and cook until dry with even heat. Any remaining liquid should be mixed in. Take out, spread on new cloth to dry, and store in porcelain jars. Take daily; its effects are infinite. If no clay pot is available, an iron pot will do. If Yang deficient, adding one to two liang of processed Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Root) is better.
Pantao Guo (Peach Fruit): Best for treating seminal emission and weakness, tonifying Spleen and nourishing Kidney.
Qianshi (Euryale Seed) (one jin, stir-fried), Lianrou (Lotus Seed Flesh) (core removed, one jin), Jiazaorou (Jujube Paste Flesh) (one jin), Shu Di (Prepared Rehmannia Root) (one jin), Hutaorou (Walnut Kernel) (peeled, two jin).
Steam six pig kidneys with Star Anise until very cooked, remove fascia, and mash together with the aforementioned herb powders into cakes. Take two daily, before meals on an empty stomach, delivered with boiling white water or good wine, one to two zhong. In this formula, Renshen (Ginseng) and processed Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Root) can be added as desired.
Wangmu Tao (Queen Mother's Peach): Nourishing Spleen and Kidney, with superior efficacy.

Xiuye Yin (Malaria-Cessation Decoction): This is the most effective formula for stopping malaria. If sweating has been excessive and Yuan Qi has not recovered, or due to old age or weak constitution, causing malaria that cannot cease, this formula is suitable. Alternatively, use one zhong of Yin-Yang Water (mixed fresh and boiled water), decoct until one zhong remains, similarly. Expose all to dew overnight, warm and take one zhong the next morning, and take another zhong far after meals. If Yang deficiency with much cold, suitable for warming middle and dispersing cold, add Ganjiang (Dried Ginger) and Rougui (Cinnamon Bark); if severe, add processed Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Root). If pathogenic factors are not completely cleared and linger difficult to heal, add Chaihu (Bupleurum Root), Mahuang (Ephedra Herb), Xixin (Asarum Root), Zisu (Perilla Leaf) to this formula, which is entirely acceptable. If Qi and Blood are mostly stagnant, decoct with one zhong of wine and one zhong of water, or drink several cups of wine after taking the medicine.
