白煮食，治香港脚疼肿，目睛生汁注眼，能黑夜视物，以其好啖螺蚬，螺蚬能明目也。干青鱼
胆，水磨点喉痹、痔疮，与熊胆同功。

【发明】鱼逆水而上游，摆动鳍和尾巴，耗费体力最大，且眼睛夜晚不闭合，所以佛教雕刻木像模仿其形状，以此来警示世人中昏沉懒惰的人。鲤鱼喜欢在急流中跳跃，因此取用它来治疗水肿病。刘河间说：鲤鱼能治水，[鳙鱼]能利水，是因为它们的气机相互感应。黄疸、香港脚（足部湿热肿痛）、孕妇身体浮肿适宜食用。便血可与白蜡同煮食用。吃鲤鱼的脑髓可以治疗突发性耳聋。鲤鱼齿可以治疗石淋。鲤鱼胆可以治疗眼睛红肿疼痛，取汁液滴眼。鲤鱼鳞可以治疗产妇瘀血滞留。烧成灰可以治疗吐血、崩漏（妇女非经期大量出血），十灰散中就用它。
本名鲩鱼，“鳙”音同“浑”。

Taste is sweet, nature is neutral, non-toxic. Carp with eyes capable of blinking are toxic. Do not consume when taking *Asparagi Radix* (Tianmendong). Do not consume after recovery from epidemic febrile diseases (Tianxingbing).
[Invention] Fish swim upstream, flapping their fins and tails, expending the most effort, and their eyes do not close at night; therefore, Buddhist wooden statues mimic this form to warn against worldly drowsiness and laziness. Carp leap in rapid currents, so they are used to treat edema. Liu Hejian stated: Carp treats water retention, while *Hypophthalmichthys nobilis* promotes diuresis, due to the resonance of their qi. It is suitable for jaundice, Hong Kong foot (damp-heat swelling and pain in the feet), and pregnancy-related generalized edema. For hematochezia, boil with white beeswax. Consuming carp brain treats sudden deafness. Carp teeth treat lithuria (stone strangury). Carp gallbladder treats red, swollen, and painful eyes; extract juice for eye drops. Carp scales treat retained blood in postpartum women. Burned to ash, it treats hematemesis and metrorrhagia (profuse uterine bleeding); it is used in *Shihui San* (Ten Ashes Powder).
Originally named *Wanyu* (Grass Carp), "Yong" sounds like "Hun".

[Invention] This fish is mostly raised in ponds feeding on grass, mixed with silver carp, hence named *Yongyu*. It exists in rivers and lakes and is a delicacy. Li Shizhen said it warms and harmonizes the stomach, referring to pond-raised fish. Li Tingfei said it can trigger various sores, referring to lake-caught fish; both views have merit. The gallbladder is bitter and cold, capable of extracting bamboo or wood splinters. If a splinter is stuck in the throat, dissolve two or three gallbladders in wine, drink warm, and induce vomiting to remove it.
The meat is sweet and neutral; the gallbladder is bitter and cold, non-toxic.
[Invention] The East corresponds to the color green, connects internally to the Liver, and opens into the eyes. Thus, the gallbladder has the function of treating foreign bodies in the eye (fish bone obstruction), and the meat nourishes the liver and eliminates water. Boiled with scallion whites, it treats Hong Kong foot pain and swelling, excessive ocular discharge, and improves night vision, as it feeds on snails and clams, which brighten the eyes. Dried black carp gallbladder, ground with water and applied, treats pharyngeal obstruction (Houbi) and hemorrhoids, with effects similar to Ursine Gallbladder (*Xiongdan*).

[Invention] Pond fish are mostly non-toxic. Since this fish often consumes leftovers of other fish, although its toxicity is slight, there is a risk of aggravating damp-heat. There are two varieties: black-headed (larger head) and white-bellied (plump abdomen). Though considered inferior food, it warms the middle and benefits qi, similar to *Yongyu*.
