Drying dampness and dispelling wind.
Silkworms feed but do not drink, thus belonging to the Fire nature which is dry. Dryness can dispel wind and overcome dampness. (The *Classic of Internal Medicine* states: "Dryness overcomes wind; dryness belongs to Metal, while wind belongs to Wood.") Cantharis powder (feces of the domestic silkworm) is pungent, sweet, and warm. When stir-fried until yellow and soaked in wine, it treats diseases caused by wind-dampness, such as immobility of joints, stubborn skin numbness, cold pain in the lower back and feet, cold blood stasis, and blood stasis. It can also be stir-fried hot and applied as a compress to the affected area, which is also effective. (Kou Zongshi said: "Mix three sheng of pure wine with five dou of cantharis powder, steam until hot, spread on mats in a warm room, have the patient suffering from cold-wind-damp bi syndrome lie on it, cover thickly to induce sweating. If not cured, repeat the next day, but beware of fainting or dizziness.") Mixed with sesame oil for topical application, it treats rotting margin wind-eye (blepharitis). (The upper and lower eyelids belong to the Spleen; when the Spleen has wind-dampness, parasites may grow causing the margins to rot. Additionally, calcining new tiles into powder, adding a small amount of Realgar, and mixing with sesame oil treats herpes zoster. Someone who consumed *Zaocys dhumnades* turned black all over and gradually developed scales, terrifying those who saw him. Zheng Dianyi instructed him to take five qian of evening cantharis powder daily; after consuming one or two dou, the symptoms eventually subsided.) This is Er Can Shi (Cantharis powder). Wash clean and sun-dry.
Original Silkworm Moth (male silkworm moth), its Qi is hot and its nature is lustful. It primarily secures essence and strengthens yang. (For snake bites, use raw Er Can Mo, grind and apply externally.)
Bing Lang, also known as Ban Mao. A strong purgative, using toxicity to attack toxicity.
Pungent, cold, and toxic. Externally used to escharotic dead tissue, applied for scabies, tinea, and malignant sores. Internally used to break stone strangury (urinary calculi), and to draw out scrofula and carbuncles. (Yang Dengfu said: "The toxicity of scrofula invariably has a root. Generally, treatment focuses on Bing Lang and Di Dan. With proper processing, it can cause the root to exit via urination, appearing like powder flakes, blood clots, or rotten flesh; this is the verification of its efficacy. Use Tong Cao, Hua Shi, and Deng Xin Cao to guide the flow. When captured, Bing Lang excretes a foul-smelling gas from its anus, hence it specifically targets the lower orifices, reaching the seat of essence and urine, capable of expelling corrupt matter, causing unbearable pain. Its use requires careful consideration.") Expels dog venom. (This is a critical condition where nine out of ten die. Urgently use seven pieces of Bing Lang, remove head, wings, and legs, stir-fry with glutinous rice until yellow, grind into powder, decoct in wine, and take on an empty stomach. It will expel 30-40 small dog-shaped toxins. If insufficient, administer again. Another prescription: One spoon of glutinous rice and twenty-one pieces of Bing Lang, stir-fry in three portions until clear smoke appears, discard the Bing Lang, take the rice powder, mix with cold water and a little refined oil, take on an empty stomach to purge toxins via stool. If no purging occurs, administer again. After recovery, avoid hearing bells and drums; if relapse occurs due to these sounds, it becomes incurable. If severe abdominal pain occurs after ingestion, use Indigo juice or Coptis chinensis decoction to detoxify.) Eschars muscle (muscle rots upon contact). Abortifacient. (Bing Lang, Yuan Qing, Ge Shang Ting Chang, and Di Dan are four insects with different appearances but similar functions. Those eating Yuan Hua are Yuan Qing, greenish-blue and highly toxic; those born in spring eating Ge flowers are Ting Chang, black body with red head; those born in summer eating bean flowers are Bing Lang, spotted; those born in autumn and hibernating in winter are Di Dan, black head with red tail. Tao Hongjing stated: "These are transformations of one type of organism across the four seasons, all extremely toxic, requiring caution." Bing Lang, remove head and legs. Stir-fry with glutinous rice until cooked. Raw use causes vomiting and diarrhea. Some use only the aroma extracted by rice, not the substance itself. It fears Danshen and Ba Dou. It clashes with Dou Hua and Gan Cao.)
