\r蟹\pq145a.bmp\r
\r蛤蚧\pq145.bmp\r
Valvula Arcae (Shell of Ark Clam)
The salty flavor can soften hardness. It is highly effective in eliminating old phlegm. Its cold nature promotes the circulation of blood stasis and resolves accumulation, making it very efficacious for treating stomach pain. (Valvula Arcae, also known as Kui Ge, is found in the sea. Its shape resembles a clam, and its shell back resembles the ridge of a tiled roof. It tastes salty and is cold in nature. It enters the Lung and Stomach meridians. It softens hard phlegm and dissipates blood stasis. It can be used for chest or stomach pain caused by old phlegm and dead blood stagnating inside.)
Concha Heterodonis (Abalone Shell)
It pacifies the Liver, eliminates heat, brightens the eyes, and subdues Yang. It tastes salty and is cold in nature. It promotes urination to relieve strangury and benefits the Kidney. (Concha Heterodonis grows on rocky cliffs in the sea. It resembles a long, flat small mussel. The outer skin is very rough, while the interior is glossy. There is a row of fine holes on the back, either seven or nine holes. It exists as a single piece without a pair. Generally, marine creatures are salty and cold; this substance enters the Liver meridian. Salty flavors soften hardness, and cold nature clears heat. Furthermore, substances belonging to the mollusk class can subdue Yang and enter the Kidney. Thus, it exerts its effect on the Liver. Since the Liver opens into the eyes, both internal administration and external application can brighten vision. Regarding the relief of strangury, it clears damp-heat fire from the Liver; as the Liver governs free flow, once pathogenic heat is removed, strangury heals itself.)
Portunus (Crab)
It unblocks collaterals, dissipates blood stasis, reconnects sinews and bones, and resolves lacquer dermatitis. It possesses the function of moving horizontally and has a salty-cold nature. However, it may stir wind and induce toxicity, clear heat, and promote abortion. (Crab is salty and cold with slight toxicity. It moves horizontally through the collaterals, dissipates blood stasis, treats fractures and injuries, reconnects sinews and bones, and produces miraculous effects whether taken internally or applied externally. It is good at resolving lacquer dermatitis; the crab roe can liquefy lacquer, demonstrating mutual restraint among substances. It easily stirs wind and induces toxicity; patients with wind disorders or sores should not eat it. As a food item, any creature with abnormal or strange shapes usually contains high toxicity and should not be eaten. Additionally, it should not be consumed together with persimmons due to the risk of sudden death. Crab claws can also induce abortion, so pregnant women should avoid them.)
Gekko Gecko (Gecko)
It tonifies the Lung and Kidney to grasp Qi and return it to its origin; panting and shortness of breath are instantly relieved by the strength of its tail. Its nature is salty and neutral, benefiting essence and consolidating the lower jiao, achieving complete efficacy for consumptive diseases. (Gekko Gecko is found in mountains or tree hollows. It resembles a gecko, with a head like a toad, fine scales on its back, and a long tail. The male is called 'Ha', and the female is called 'Jie'; their calls are similar. This animal mates well, often embracing each other. It tastes salty and is neutral in nature, with slight toxicity. It enters the Lung and Kidney meridians. It tonifies deficiency and consumption, assists yang, grasps primordial Qi, and directs it downward to the Kidneys. Therefore, it can be used for cough due to Lung deficiency and wheezing/reversal of Qi due to Kidney deficiency. Its efficacy lies mainly in the tail. Nevertheless, it is ultimately a toxic substance belonging to insects and reptiles; although effective, it should not be overly relied upon.)
