\r石斛\pq62a1.bmp\r
\r骨碎补\pq62a.bmp\r
\r石苇\pq62.bmp\r
Blood flows recklessly due to being forced by heat. To treat the branch (symptoms), it is roasted, ground, and taken. Its nature is originally sweet, cold, and non-toxic. If one wishes to release the exterior through sweating, it is boiled in water and drunk. Its function belongs to being light and ascending. Its use directly clears the Lung and Stomach. (Ruoye [Bamboo Leaf Sheath] is sweet and cold, entering the Lung and Stomach meridians. Its efficacy is similar to that of Lugen [Reed Rhizome]. If blood flows recklessly due to heat forcing it, this herb is burned to ash and taken. This also follows the principle that "cold can overcome heat" and "black can overcome red [blood]." Although Ruoye has a cold and descending nature, it also has the intent of being light, ascending, and dispersing pathogens. Therefore, there is a difference between its root and leaf usage compared to Lugen.)
Shihu [Dendrobium]: Eliminates deficiency-heat of the Yangming meridian. It tastes sweet and salty with a slightly cold nature. It pleases the Stomach and thickens the intestines. Both the Lung and Kidney benefit from the nourishment of Yin. For Jinchai Shihu [Dendrobium nobile], the medicinal power varies significantly depending on the place of origin. Fresh herbs are suitable for treating diseases and eliminating pathogens, often appropriate for seasonal conditions. Shihu from Sichuan has a light qi and thin taste; ultimately, its therapeutic functions are ordinary. (Shihu tastes sweet and salty, slightly cold, entering the Lung, Stomach, and Kidney meridians. It clears deficiency-heat. Because its sweet flavor outweighs its cold nature, it can please the Stomach and nourish the intestines, exerting a stronger effect on the Yangming meridian. However, it is ultimately a substance with light qi and thin taste, not capable of resisting severe diseases.)
Gusuibu [Drynaria]: Bitterness can strengthen the Kidney, and warmth can tonify deficiency. It moves blood stasis to treat labor injuries. It promotes hair growth and eliminates wind pathogens. (Gusuibu is also known as Maojiang [Hairy Ginger]. It enters the Kidney to tonify deficiency. The Kidney governs bones, hence the name. Its bitter-warm nature can also break up blood stasis and heal severed injuries. Thus, its treatment of wind diseases is because Kidney deficiency causes bi-syndrome [obstruction] to adhere to the bones. Soaking it in water and brushing it on the head can promote hair growth.)
Shiwei [Pyrrosia]: Guides damp-heat to unblock strangury. It is sweet and bitter with a slightly cold nature. It descends to the Fire Fu organs, clears the Metal of the Lung, and promotes urination. It separates and dissipates turbidity, reaching directly to the Zhoudou [Bladder]. (Shiwei grows on rocks. Its leaves resemble cloth. It is sweet, bitter, and slightly cold. It clears Lung heat upward and reaches the Bladder downward, promoting urination for damp-heat and unblocking turbid strangury. Its main indications are limited to this, and it is not a commonly used herb.)
Luoshiteng [Trachelospermum]: Tastes bitter and is neutral in nature. It disseminates wind and unblocks collaterals. (Luoshiteng, belonging to the vine family, can all unblock collaterals and disseminate wind. Since wind within the collaterals causes blockage of the collateral pathways, and given its bitter-neutral nature which can also disseminate, it is effective.)
