Duck (Ya)
The taste combines sweet and salty. The efficacy covers both the Lung and Kidney meridians. It nourishes Metal (Lung) to treat coughs, and supports deficiency consumptive diseases (Xu Lao) resulting from long-term weakness. It reduces fever and nourishes Yin, and can promote circulation in the Water Mansion (referring to the Kidney or Bladder). In generating blood, it is specifically capable of resolving mineral poison (Shi Du), eliminating toxins from gold, silver, realgar (Pi), and kudzu root (Ge). Wild ducks (Ye Fu) can also benefit those with deficiency and emaciation; its nature, taste, and functions are similar. (Duck, also known as Wu, has two types: domesticated and wild. Domesticated ones are called Ya, while wild ones are called Fu. Those with white feathers are considered superior. This is a waterfowl that enters the Lung and Kidney viscera. Its taste is sweet and slightly salty, and its nature is cool and non-toxic. Nourishing Yin and promoting urination are its strengths. However, it is only suitable for culinary use and is essentially not a medicinal herb. ○ Duck blood has a salty and cold nature, and its efficacy is specialized in detoxification, but it must be consumed hot to be effective. This is also a method passed down through ancient and modern times. It is also used to treat drowning victims; administering it can restore life. When applied to injured earthworms, it also heals them, which is due to the mutual感应 (influence) of Qi.)
Sparrow Egg (Que Lv)
Sweet and warm, it assists the Kidney and can tonify essence to strengthen Yang. Sour and warm, it tonifies the Liver and treats oligomenorrhea caused by blood depletion. One should be aware of Bai Ding Xiang (White Sparrow Droppings); to resolve abscesses and break up accumulations, one must seek the feces of male sparrows. To remove corneal opacities and restore vision, and to drain pus and treat hernias, there are established prescriptions. The taste is bitter, salty, and warm, and it is non-toxic. (Sparrow eggs that are old and spotted are from the common sparrow, while small and yellow ones are from the yellow-billed sparrow. Their nature is most lustful. The egg is formed by the condensation of essence and blood. With a sweet, sour, and warm nature, it can tonify Liver blood and assist Kidney Yang, treating all conditions characterized by flaccidity and weakness. ○ Bai Ding Xiang refers to sparrow droppings, with those that are pointed, elongated, and from males being superior. It is bitter, salty, and warm, good at digestion, and treats abdominal hernias, masses, and accumulations, as well as diseases of the Liver, Kidney, intestines, and stomach. Externally, it removes corneal opacities and resolves abscesses, taking advantage of its ability to dissipate.)
Wu Ling Zhi (Trogopterus Dung)
It unblocks the Liver and breaks blood stasis; its salty and sour properties alleviate various pains and stagnations. It eliminates accumulations and dispels wind; however, due to its fishy, foul, and turbid nature, it is contraindicated for deficient individuals. Metrorrhagia, strangury, and leukorrhea all belong to cold-blood stasis. Grinding away corneal opacities and killing parasites are all attributed to treating Liver diseases. (Wu Ling Zhi is the feces of the Trogopterus mancus (Flying Squirrel). It is sweet, bitter, salty, and warm, with a fishy, foul, and turbid odor. It enters the Liver meridian to break blood stasis and eliminate accumulations, treating all conditions such as hernias, masses, and blood stagnation. However, it is suitable mainly when the etiology is cold. Corneal opacities and parasites arise from the stagnation of Wind-Wood Qi, so they are both treated. It easily damages Stomach Qi and is strictly contraindicated for deficient persons.)
