Lao (fermented dairy product) primarily treats heat toxicity, relieves thirst, induces sweating to release the exterior, promotes urination, eliminates deficiency-heat in the chest, and treats heat sores on the face and skin ulcers. (Recorded by Famous Physicians) [Origin] *Tujing Bencao* states: Old editions did not record the provinces of origin; currently, it is widely available in both north and south. The milks of cattle, horses, donkeys, and sheep have generally similar functions. However, donkey milk is cold and purgative, unsuitable for making Lao; sheep milk is warm and tonifying; horse milk is best for making Lao, but cow milk is superior. [Harvest] Available anytime for growth and harvesting. [Storage] Store in porcelain vessels. [Color] White. [Flavor] Sweet and sour. [Nature] Cold. [Qi and Flavor] Thin Qi, strong flavor, Yin within Yang. [Odor] Musky. [Therapeutic Effects] *Rihua Zi Bencao* states: Cow Lao stops vexation-thirst, relieves heat-stuffiness, and pain from heat in the heart and diaphragm. *Bielu* states: Cow Lao dissipates heat toxicity, removes heat from the chest, and if a centipede enters the ear, pouring it into the ear causes the centipede to exit; if ingested into the abdomen, drinking Lao will dissolve it and expel yellow water. [Combined Treatment] Mixed with salt, heated and boiled, then applied to erysipelas and urticaria to eliminate them. [Contraindications] Those with cold syndromes should not eat sheep milk Lao; those with dysentery should also avoid it.
Non-toxic.
Ru Fu (fermented dairy curd) moistens the five Zang organs, unblocks the large and small intestines, benefits the twelve meridians, and slightly moves Qi. Finely chop it like bean flour, mix with vinegar slurry, boil for over twenty times, and it treats red and white dysentery; it is especially effective for children. (Recorded by Famous Physicians) [Origin] Available in both north and south. [Harvest] Available anytime for growth and harvesting. [Usage] Fine texture without removing the cream is best. [Color] White. [Flavor] Sweet. [Nature] Slightly cold. [Qi] Thin Qi, Yang within Yin. [Odor] Musky. [Contraindications] Excessive consumption disturbs Qi.

Ti Hu (refined butter essence/ghee) primarily treats wind-pathogen bi-syndrome and unblocks and moistens the bone marrow. (Recorded by Famous Physicians) [Origin] *Tujing Bencao* states: Old editions did not record the provinces of origin; currently, it is available everywhere in north and south. This is the essence of Su (clarified butter), with efficacy superior to Su. From one dan of good Su, only three or four sheng of Ti Hu can be obtained. It requires repeated pounding and refining, stored in vessels until solidified; piercing through the center to the bottom allows the essence to flow out and be collected. *Shuben Bencao* states: Another view is that what does not congeal in deep winter and does not melt in midsummer within the Su is this. *Yanyi* states: When making Lao, the layer congealing on top is called Lao mian (Lao surface); the part on the Lao mian with an oil-like color is Ti Hu, obtained by boiling. It is rare and extremely delicious. Although obtained this way, its uses are few, being most suitable for moistening and nourishing scabs. [Harvest] Available anytime for growth and harvesting. [Storage] Due to its slippery nature, it permeates most containers; only chicken eggshells and gourd ladles prevent leakage. [Color] White. [Flavor] Sweet. [Nature] Neutral and cold. [Qi] Thin Qi, Yang within Yin. [Odor] Musky. [Main Actions] Moistens the heart and lungs, lustrifies the skin and muscles. [Processing] *Leigong Paozhi Lun* states: Whenever using the heart... *Yanyi* states: Moistens and nourishes scabs. *Bielu* states: Disperses wind-pathogens, unblocks and moistens bone marrow, and treats lung diseases with coughing and continuous pus-blood. [Combined Treatment] Mixed with wine and taken orally to treat stroke-related vexation-heat, skin itching, as well as tonifying deficiency and removing wind-dampness bi-syndrome.
