Toxic. Xi Hui (Tin Ash): Mainly treats killing parasites and eliminating accumulations (Recorded by Famous Physicians). [Name] Bai La (White Wax) [Origin] (According to *Tu Jing*): Grows in the valleys of Guiyang; currently found wherever silver mines exist, with those from Linhe being particularly abundant. Also called Bai La, but there are black and white varieties; the black one is lead. Although similar in appearance to this, their uses are distinct. Xi Hui is made by placing tin in an iron pan, melting it for a long time, allowing the coarse dregs to settle like ash after clarification. This is what is used in the current Miaoying Wan. [Time] (Growth) No fixed time (Harvest) No fixed time [Use] Ash [Color] Black-brown [Taste] Salty [Nature] Neutral [Qi] The aroma is stronger than the taste; Yin within Yang [Odor] Rotten [Preparation] Remove tin, grind finely, and sieve.
Non-toxic. Fu Hao Tu (Attached Good Earth): Tu Xiao (Earth Eliminator), Tu Bing Lang (Earth Areca Nut). Dong Bi Tu (East Wall Earth): Mainly treats lower body sores and rectal prolapse (Recorded by Famous Physicians). [Origin] (Tao Hongjing said): This is earth dried for a long time on rotting walls, specifically taken from the east-facing side, hence called East Wall Earth. Because it absorbs the essence of the morning sun and gathers the developmental Qi of the Zhen direction, scraping it can also remove oil stains and dirt from clothes. Zhang Sikong said: Earth more than three feet deep is called manure; less than three feet is called earth. Taking it should expel evil substances from the upper body; do not let them enter the guest water (Chen Cangqi said): There is a type of Tu Xiao, which is extremely cold and non-toxic. Zhuangzi said: The pellets rolled by dung beetles are this. Found buried in the earth, dug up whole and round like if kneaded by hand; the longer it is kneaded, the better. There is also Tu Bing Lang, shaped like Areca Nut, found in earth holes and between steps; newly obtained ones are still soft, said to be toad feces. Since toads eat various insects, it specially treats malignant sores. (*Yan Yi* says): Now carefully examining, the earth on south-facing walls is also sun-exposed and long-dried; why not take it? It is likely that the east wall often receives the baking heat of the morning sun. The sun is true fire, thus treating plague malaria. Some ask: Why not take the south wall earth at noon when it is hottest, but instead take the east wall earth at sunrise? When fire generates, its Qi is vigorous. Thus, *Su Wen* states that the Qi of mild fire is vigorous, but when it reaches noon, the Qi of fierce fire declines, hence not taken. This practical meaning is applied here. Some ask: How do we know the sun is true fire? By using a crystal lens or a concave bronze mirror to focus sunlight onto mugwort; where the light converges, fire emerges, thus knowing this. [Time] (Growth) No fixed time (Harvest) No fixed time [Collection] Sun-dry [Color] Yellow [Taste] Sweet [Nature] Neutral, Warm, Mild [Qi] Aroma stronger than taste; Yang [Odor] Rotten [Main Action] Detoxify and dampness-resolve [Preparation] Grind into fine powder. [Treatment] (Therapy) (Tao Hongjing said): Treats infant wind-umbilicus (*Tang Ben Zhu* says): Rub on dry and wet tinea (*Yao Xing Lun* says): Apply to eyes to remove nebula. Powdered shells of clams found on East Wall Earth applied to treat pea pox and eliminate warm malaria (Chen Cangqi said): Stops dysentery, cholera, and restlessness. ○ Hao Tu (Good Earth): Sweet taste, non-toxic. Mainly treats dysentery (cold, hot, red, white), internal heat toxin causing cramping pain, and bloody stool. Take dry earth from underground, boil in water for 3-5 boils, strain, adjust consistency, and drink 1-2 sheng while warm. ○ Tu Xiao: Mainly treats typhoid, seasonal epidemics, jaundice, and irritability. Infuse with hot water, take the juice in one dose for good effect. ○ Tu Bing Lang: Mainly treats malignant sores, insect bites, and scrofula/scrub-tinea. Grind finely and apply with oil. (*Bie Lu* says): East Wall Earth mainly treats infant umbilical wind sores that have persisted for years without healing. [Combined Treatment] One sheng of East Wall Earth combined with three stalks of Gleditsia Sinensis (Zao Jia), each one chi two cun long, to treat anal protrusion. Dust the protruding part of the anus with wall earth powder; gently moxa-warm Gleditsia Sinensis and alternate applying heat until healed. ○ Hao Tu combined with hair: Treats poisoning from eating beef, horse, or mutton meat and liver toxicity. First, cut hair into one-cun lengths, mix with Hao Tu to form a paste, combine 2 sheng, and drink. Soon, the hair will pass out along with the ingested liver. ○ Wall earth smoked for many years combined with Phellodendron Amurense (Huang Bo), pounded and sieved together, mixed with fresh ginger juice to form a paste for application. Additionally, take one qian bi mixed with Maotang decoction to treat carbuncles and furuncles on the back. [Detoxification] Hao Tu boiled in water for 3-5 boils, strained, adjusted for consistency, and drunk 2 sheng while warm. Resolves various drug toxins, meat toxins, pepper-induced mouth closure toxins, and wild mushroom toxins.
