[Flavor and Nature] Sweet, slightly cold, non-toxic. Long-term consumption makes the body light and benefits qi (Qing Shen Yi Qi).
(Yiyi resembles rice grains, hence the common name Mi Ren. It originally grew in the plains of Zhen Ding and fields; now it grows everywhere. Sprouts emerge in spring with leaves like broomcorn millet. Fruits form in May and June, maturing in autumn. The kernel is white like pearls, suitable for making porridge or brewing wine with rice.)
Yiyi Ren (Coix Seed) belongs to the grain category. It grows in summer and matures in autumn, has a sweet flavor and white color, and its nature is slightly cold. It inherits the essence of Yangming Metal and Earth. It primarily treats muscle spasms and contractures where flexion and extension are impossible. This is because the Yangming channel moistens the zong jin (major sinews), and the zong jin binds the bones and facilitates joint movement. When the zong jin is moistened, all sinews harmonize naturally. When joints move freely, flexion and extension become smooth. Furthermore, Metal controls wind, and Earth overcomes dampness; thus, it treats chronic wind-damp bi syndrome. The Lung belongs to Metal and governs qi. Yiyi inherits the Metal qi of Yangming, so it primarily directs qi downward. By treating chronic wind-damp bi syndrome, long-term consumption lightens the body and benefits qi while directing qi downward.
