Soak in rice washing water, steam until cooked, then sun-dry for use. It acts as a guiding herb with Scrophulariae Radix (Xuanshen, 玄参). It is incompatible with Fritillariae Bulbus (Beimu, 贝母), Cuscutae Semen (Tusizi, 菟丝子), and Euphorbiae Humifusae Herba (Loulu, 漏芦); it is chemically antagonistic to Veratrum Rhizoma (Lilu, 藜芦). It tonifies Yin and benefits essence, brightens the eyes, and stops tearing. It treats bloody dysentery caused by damp-heat, and arrests bloody diarrhea due to intestinal wind pathogens. It also treats leprosy, scabies, and other severe skin diseases; it is particularly effective in eliminating carbuncles, sores, and genital ulcers. It addresses conditions such as dark urine, jaundice, and abdominal masses (Jiju Zhengjia, 积聚症瘕 - accumulations and masses).
