以产自云南、西藏、四川地区的为最佳。捕获后，用中空的麋鹿角削尖刺入心脏取血。待血液凝固成块干燥后，用糯米喂养保存，可以经久不坏。主要功效是止血、散瘀。治疗鼻出血、吐血、便血，均调酒服用；急心痛（用烧酒化开服用）；喉癣；跌打损伤（饮酒至醉，醒来后骨头自然接续，或单服数厘）。还能解新鲜菌类和河豚的毒。
鹿茸在角初生二三寸长时采收最为优良。主要功效：补阳、生精养血、益髓、强筋、健骨。治疗虚热、身体消瘦、惊痫、腰肾虚冷、腹中瘀血、遗精、尿血、石淋、虚痢、腰脚无力、妇人崩漏下血、小儿痘疮干枯内陷、痈疽。
鹿茸四斤丸：鹿茸二具，木瓜、天麻、肉苁蓉（酒洗）、牛膝各一斤，菟丝子、熟地黄、杜仲各八两。研成末，蜂蜜炼制成梧桐子大小的丸药。每次服用六七十丸，空腹时用盐汤送服，临睡前用温酒送服。治疗肝肾俱虚，筋骨痿软颤抖。
鹿茸补精丸：鹿茸（酥炙）、桑螵蛸（焙干）、肉苁蓉、巴戟天、菟丝子（酒浸）、杜仲（姜汁炒去丝）、益智仁、禹余粮（火煅醋淬）、川楝子（焙干）、当归各三两，韭子（微炒）、破故纸（炒）、山茱萸、赤石脂、龙骨（另研）各五钱，滴乳香二钱五分。研成末，用酒煮糯米糊制成梧桐子大小的丸药。每次服用七十丸，饭前用白茯苓汤送服。治疗心虚肾冷，漏精白浊。
鹿茸丸：鹿茸（炙）、椒红、桂心、附子（炮制）、牡蛎、补骨脂（炒）、石斛、肉苁蓉（酒浸）、鸡（炙）、沉香各一两，桑螵蛸（炙）五钱。研成末，用酒煮面糊制成梧桐子大小的丸药。每次服用三十丸，空腹用温酒送服。治疗妇人久病体虚积冷，小便白浊，滑数不禁。
又一方：鹿茸（酒炙）、牛膝（盐酒炒）、五味子各二两，石斛、巴戟天、附子（炮制）、川楝子（酒蒸）、山药（炒）、肉桂（不见火）、杜仲（盐酒炒）、泽泻（盐水炒）各一两，沉香（另研）五钱。研成末，用酒煮米糊制成梧桐子大小的丸药。每次服用七十丸，清晨用温酒送服。治疗肾脏真阳久虚，下肢痿弱，疼痛喘咳，水湿泛滥成痰。
又一方：鹿茸（酥炙）、赤石脂（制）、禹余粮（制）、柏叶、附子（炮制）各一两，熟地黄、当归（酒浸）、艾叶、续断各二两。研成末，蜂蜜炼制成梧桐子大小的丸药。每次服用三五十丸，空腹用温酒送服。治疗妇人冲任脉虚弱，风冷侵袭，导致月经量多色黑，严重者崩漏伴脐腹极冷，甚者汗出如雨，尺脉微小。
又一方：鹿茸（酥炙另捣成泥）、五味子、当归、熟地黄（捣膏）各等分。酒糊制成梧桐子大小的丸药。每次服用三四十丸，饭前用温酒送服。随后用当归、川芎各等分，研成末，每次服用二三钱，荆芥汤调服。空腹和饭后各服一次。治疗香港脚（足胫红肿重痛），手腕生疮。
鹿茸橘皮煎丸：鹿茸（劈开酒浸炙）三两，橘皮十五两，莪术（煨）、当归、萆薢、厚朴（姜制）、肉桂、肉苁蓉（酒浸焙）、附子（炮制）、巴戟天、阳起石（酒浸研如粉）、石斛、牛膝（酒浸）、菟丝子（酒浸焙）、吴茱萸（焙）、杜仲（姜汁炒）、干姜（泡）各三两，炙甘草一两。研成末，用五升酒在银石器内将橘皮煎熬如饴糖状，再加入诸药末，和捣五百杵。制成梧桐子大小的丸药。每次服用三十丸，空腹用温酒或盐汤送服。治疗脾胃俱虚，食欲不振。常服可健脾胃益肾。
鹿茸散：鹿茸（酥炙）、阿胶（蛤粉炒）各三两，海螵蛸（醋炒）、当归、蒲黄（半生半炒）各二两。研成末。每次服用方寸匕，温酒调服，每日三次。治疗妇人漏下不止。
又一方：鹿茸、当归、熟地黄、冬葵子、蒲黄、续断各等分。研成末，每次服用二钱，温酒调服，每日三次。治疗妇人劳损虚羸尿血。
鹿茸大补汤：鹿茸五分，肉苁蓉、杜仲各一钱，白术、白芍、附子、肉桂、人参、金石斛、五味子、半夏各七分，黄芪、茯苓、当归、熟地黄各五分，甘草二分五厘。加生姜三片，大枣二枚，水煎服。治疗阳虚。
鹿角主要功效：益气、补阳、强骨髓、续绝伤。（蜜炙研末酒服）治疗腰脊痛、心痛、少腹血痛、阴中留血、脱精、尿血、妇人腰痛、梦与鬼交（均酒服）、胎死腹中（葱豉煮汤和服）、胞衣不下（姜汤调末服）、胞中余血不尽（烧灰酒服）、产后腹痛（烧灰豉汁服）、血晕（烧存性研末酒服）。此药生用散热行血，消肿解毒；熟用益肾补阳，强精活血。炼霜、熬胶，功效专于滋补。
鹿角丸：鹿角二两，牛膝（酒浸焙）一两五钱。研成末，蜂蜜炼制成梧桐子大小的丸药。每次服用七十丸，空腹用盐汤送服。治疗骨虚脊痛，气血衰惫。
鹿角散：鹿角屑、鹿茸各一两，茯苓七钱五分，人参、川芎、当归、桑螵蛸、补骨脂、龙骨（另研）、韭子（微炒）各五钱，柏子仁、甘草各二钱五分。每次服用五钱，加生姜五片，大枣二枚，粳米百粒，水煎空腹服。治疗色劳及阴虚诸证。
又一方：鹿角尖三寸，炭火煅至稍红，存性研末。每次服用三钱，食后用热酒一钟调服。治疗乳痈初起，肿痛未成脓者。
鹿角胶：将鹿角煮烂成粉，熬制成胶；或煮浓汁熬制成胶。主要功效：补中、益气、止痛、安胎、强筋骨、壮腰膝、生精血。治疗伤中劳绝、气弱虚损、劳嗽吐血、多汗、淋露尿精下血、妇人血闭无子、崩中漏下、疗疮疡、肺毒、跌伤。
鹿角胶丸：鹿角胶五钱，没药（另研）、油头发灰各三钱。研成末，用茅根汁打面糊制成梧桐子大小的丸药。每次服用五十丸，盐汤送服。治疗房劳便血。
鹿角霜丸：鹿角霜、白茯苓、秋石各等分。研成末，米糊制成梧桐子大小的丸药。每次服用五十丸，米饮送服。治疗膏淋。
又一方：鹿角霜、柏子仁（炒）、当归身、茯神、龙骨（另研）、阿胶（蛤粉炒）各一两，川芎七钱，香附（醋制）二两，炙甘草五钱，续断一两五钱。研成末，用山药五两研末，煮糊为丸。梧桐子大小，每次服用五十丸，空腹用温酒送服。治疗血崩成漏。
鹿胎丸：鹿胎一具（洗净煮烂），熟地黄（人乳粉、山药各一两拌蒸九次）、枸杞子（乳浸）各八两，菟丝子（酒煮）、何首乌（制人乳浸）各十两，金石斛（酒炒）六两，巴戟肉（酒炒）、黄芪（酥炙）各五两，人参四两。研成末，用黄蒿膏为丸。梧桐子大小，每次服用三钱，熟汤送服。治疗色劳。
鹿筋：主要功效补劳、续绝、壮筋骨。可随意与猪羊肉一起煮食。
Best quality is produced in Yunnan, Tibet, and Sichuan. After capture, the blood is drawn from the heart by piercing it with a sharp, hollowed-out elk antler. Once dried into solid clumps, it is preserved with glutinous rice to ensure long-term storage. Its main indications are hemostasis and resolving blood stasis. It treats epistaxis (nosebleed), hematemesis (vomiting blood), and hematochezia (blood in stool), all administered with wine; acute heart pain (dissolved in burning wine); pharyngeal lichen planus; traumatic injuries (drink until intoxicated; upon waking, bones will naturally knit, or take a few milligrams alone). It also detoxifies fresh mushrooms and pufferfish.
Deer velvet antlers harvested when they are only two to three cun long are of the best quality. Main functions: tonifying Yang, generating essence, nourishing blood, benefiting marrow, strengthening sinews and bones. Treats deficiency-heat, emaciation, convulsions and epilepsy, coldness of the waist and kidneys, abdominal blood stasis, spermatorrhea, hematuria, calculous strangury, deficiency-type dysentery, weakness of the waist and legs, metrorrhagia and metrostaxis in women, dry retraction of infantile smallpox sores, carbuncles and ulcers.
Lurong Sijin Wan (Four-Jin Deer Velvet Pill): Two pieces of deer velvet, one jin each of Chaenomelis Fructus (Papaya), Gastrodiae Rhizoma (Tianma), Cynomorii Herba (Rou Cong Rong) washed in wine, and Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix (Niuxi); eight liang each of Cuscutae Semen (Tusizi), Rehmanniae Radix Preparata (Shudi), and Eucommiae Cortex (Duzhong). Grind into powder, form pills the size of mulberry seeds with honey. Take 60–70 pills per dose, with salt water on an empty stomach, or with warm wine before bed. Treats deficiency of both Liver and Kidney, flaccidity and tremors of sinews and bones.
Lurong Bujing Wan (Deer Velvet Essence-Tonifying Pill): Deer velvet (roasted with butter), Mantidis Oötheca (Sangpiaoxiao) baked, Cynomorii Herba, Morindae Officinalis Radix (Bajitian), Cuscutae Semen soaked in wine, Eucommiae Cortex stir-fried with ginger juice to remove fibers, Alpiniae Oxyphyllae Fructus (Yizhiren), Haematitum (Yuyuliang) calcined and quenched with vinegar, Toosendan Fructus (Chuanlianzi) baked, Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui) each at three liang; Allii Tuberosi Semen (Jiu Zi) lightly fried, Psoraleae Fructus (Poguzhi) fried, Corni Fructus (Shanzhuyu), Kaolinite (Chishizhi), Dragon Bone (Longgu) separately ground each at five qian; Oleo-resina Incensi (Doruxiang) two qian five fen. Grind into powder, form pills the size of mulberry seeds using glutinous rice paste boiled in wine. Take 70 pills per dose before meals with Poria Decoction (Baifuling Tang). Treats Heart deficiency and Kidney coldness, leakage of essence and white turbid discharge.
Lurong Wan (Deer Velvet Pill): Deer velvet (roasted), Zanthoxyli Pericarpium (Jiaohong), Cinnamomi Ramulus (Guixin), Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata (Fuzi) processed, Ostreae Concha (Muli), Psoraleae Fructus (Boguzhi) fried, Dendrobii Caulis (Shihu), Cynomorii Herba soaked in wine, Chicken meat (roasted), Aquilariae Lignum Resinatum (Chenxiang) each at one liang; Mantidis Oötheca (roasted) five qian. Grind into powder, form pills the size of mulberry seeds using wheat flour paste boiled in wine. Take 30 pills per dose on an empty stomach with warm wine. Treats chronic deficiency and accumulated cold in women, white turbid urine, slippery and rapid pulse without control.
Another prescription: Deer velvet (wine-roasted), Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix stir-fried with salt and wine, Schisandrae Fructus (Wuweizi) each at two liang; Dendrobii Caulis, Morindae Officinalis Radix, Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata steamed in wine, Dioscoreae Rhizoma (Shanyao) stir-fried, Cinnamomi Cortex (Rougui) not exposed to direct fire, Eucommiae Cortex stir-fried with salt and wine, Alismatis Rhizoma (Zexie) stir-fried with salt water each at one liang; Aquilariae Lignum Resinatum separately ground five qian. Grind into powder, form pills the size of mulberry seeds using rice paste boiled in wine. Take 70 pills per dose in the early morning with warm wine. Treats long-standing deficiency of True Yang in the Kidneys, flaccidity and weakness of the lower body, pain, wheezing and coughing, fluid retention transforming into phlegm.
Another prescription: Deer velvet (butter-roasted), Kaolinite prepared, Haematitum prepared, Phyllostachys Viridis Folium (Boye), Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata each at one liang; Rehmanniae Radix Preparata, Angelicae Sinensis Radix soaked in wine, Artemisiae Argyi Folium (Aiyè), Dipsaci Radix (Xuduan) each at two liang. Grind into powder, form pills the size of mulberry seeds with honey. Take 30–50 pills per dose on an empty stomach with warm wine. Treats deficiency of Chong and Ren vessels in women, invasion of wind-cold causing excessive menstruation with dark color, severe cases of metrorrhagia with extreme cold in the umbilical and abdominal regions, profuse sweating like rain, minute and faint Chi pulse.
Another prescription: Deer velvet (butter-roasted and pounded into paste), Schisandrae Fructus, Angelicae Sinensis Radix, Rehmanniae Radix Preparata (pounded into paste) in equal proportions. Form pills the size of mulberry seeds using wine paste. Take 30–40 pills per dose before meals with warm wine. Subsequently, take Angelicae Sinensis Radix and Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma in equal proportions, ground into powder, take 2–3 qian per dose mixed with Schizonepetae Spica (Jingjie) decoction. Take once on an empty stomach and once after meals. Treats gouty arthritis (Hong Kong foot) and sores on the wrist.
Lurong Jupi Jian Wan (Deer Velvet and Tangerine Peel Decoction Pill): Deer velvet (split, soaked in wine, roasted) three liang; Exocarpium Citri Reticulatae (Jupi) fifteen liang; Curcumae Longae Rhizoma (Ezhu) roasted, Angelicae Sinensis Radix, Smilacis Glabrae Rhizoma (Bixie), Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex (Houpo) prepared with ginger juice, Cinnamomi Cortex, Cynomorii Herba (soaked in wine, baked), Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata, Morindae Officinalis Radix, Heliotropii Fossili Os (Yangqishi) soaked in wine and ground to powder, Dendrobii Caulis, Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix (soaked in wine), Cuscutae Semen (soaked in wine, baked), Evodiae Fructus (Wuzhuyu) baked, Eucommiae Cortex (ginger juice fried), Zingiberis Rhizoma (Ganjiang) soaked each at three liang; Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma Preparata (Zhigancao) one liang. Grind into powder. Boil Exocarpium Citri Reticulatae in five sheng of wine in a silver or ceramic vessel until it resembles malt syrup. Add the herb powders, knead 500 times. Form pills the size of mulberry seeds. Take 30 pills per dose on an empty stomach with warm wine or salt water. Treats deficiency of both Spleen and Stomach, loss of appetite. Regular use strengthens Spleen and Stomach and benefits the Kidneys.
Lurong San (Deer Velvet Powder): Deer velvet (butter-roasted), Colla Corii Asini (Ejiao) stir-fried with clam powder each at three liang; Sepiae Endoconcha (Haipiaoxiao) stir-fried with vinegar, Angelicae Sinensis Radix, Puerariae Lobatae Radix (Puhuang) half raw half fried each at two liang. Grind into powder. Take one fangcun bi per dose, mixed with warm wine, three times daily. Treats continuous uterine bleeding in women.
Another prescription: Deer velvet, Angelicae Sinensis Radix, Rehmanniae Radix Preparata, Malvae Semen (Dongkuizi), Puerariae Lobatae Radix, Dipsaci Radix in equal proportions. Grind into powder. Take two qian per dose, mixed with warm wine, three times daily. Treats uterine bleeding due to consumptive disease and emaciation in women.
Lurong Dabu Tang (Deer Velvet Great Tonifying Decoction): Deer velvet five fen, Cynomorii Herba and Eucommiae Cortex each one qian, Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma (Baizhu), Paeoniae Radix Alba (Baishao), Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata, Cinnamomi Cortex, Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (Renshen), Dendrobii Caulis (Jinshihu), Schisandrae Fructus, Pinelliae Rhizoma (Banxia) each seven fen; Astragali Membranacei Radix (Huangqi), Poria (Fuling), Angelicae Sinensis Radix, Rehmanniae Radix Preparata each five fen; Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao) two fen five li. Add three slices of Zingiberis Recens Rhizoma (Shengjiang) and two dates (Dazao). Decoct in water and take. Treats Yang deficiency.

Treats pain in the lumbar spine, heart pain, blood pain in the lower abdomen, retained blood in the vagina, seminal emission, hematuria, lower back pain in women, nocturnal emissions involving dreams of intercourse (all taken with wine), fetal death in utero (mixed with Scallion and Soybean Fermented Decoction), retained placenta (mixed with Ginger Decoction), incomplete expulsion of residual blood in the uterus (burned to ash, taken with wine), postpartum abdominal pain (burned to ash, mixed with fermented soybean juice), syncope due to blood loss (burned to retain nature, ground to powder, taken with wine). Raw application dissipates heat and promotes blood circulation, reduces swelling and detoxifies. Cooked application benefits the Kidneys, tonifies Yang, strengthens essence and promotes blood circulation. Calcined to frost or boiled into gelatin, its function is specifically for tonification.
Lujiao Wan (Deer Antler Pill): Deer antler two liang, Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix (soaked in wine, baked) one liang five qian. Grind into powder, form pills the size of mulberry seeds with honey. Take 70 pills per dose on an empty stomach with salt water. Treats bone deficiency and spinal pain, exhaustion of Qi and Blood.
Lujiao San (Deer Antler Powder): Deer antler fragments and Deer velvet each one liang, Poria seven qian five fen, Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma, Angelicae Sinensis Radix, Mantidis Oötheca, Psoraleae Fructus, Dragon Bone (separately ground), Allii Tuberosi Semen (lightly fried) each five qian; Platycodi Semen (Baiziren), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma each two qian five fen. Take five qian per dose, add five slices of ginger, two dates, and one hundred grains of Coicis Semen (Jingmi). Decoct in water and take on an empty stomach. Treats sexual exhaustion and various Yin deficiency syndromes.
Another prescription: Three cun of Deer Antler Tip, calcined in charcoal fire until slightly red, retain the nature and grind to powder. Take three qian per dose, mixed with a cup of hot wine after meals. Treats early-stage mastitis where swelling and pain have not yet formed pus.
Colla Cornu Cervi (Deer Antler Gelatin): Deer antler boiled until soft and powdered, then boiled into gelatin; or boiled into thick juice and reduced to gelatin. Main functions: tonifying the Middle, benefiting Qi, relieving pain, calming the fetus, strengthening sinews and bones, strengthening waist and knees, generating essence and blood. Treats internal injury with consumptive exhaustion, weak Qi and deficiency, chronic cough with hemoptysis, excessive sweating, strangury with leakage of essence and blood, amenorrhea and infertility in women, metrorrhagia and metrostaxis, sores and ulcers, lung toxicity, traumatic injuries.
Lujiao Jiao Wan (Deer Antler Gelatin Pill): Colla Cornu Cervi five qian, Myrrha (separately ground), Ash of Oily Human Hair each three qian. Grind into powder, form pills the size of mulberry seeds using Paste of Imperatae Rhizoma Juice (Maogen Zhi). Take 50 pills per dose with salt water. Treats hematochezia due to sexual exhaustion.
Deer Antler Frost: Deer antler boiled until soft and powdered. Main indications: deficiency-cold of Spleen and Stomach, regurgitation and vomiting, benefiting the Kidneys and generating essence.
Lujiao Shuang Wan (Deer Antler Frost Pill): Deer Antler Frost, Poria, and Autumn Stone in equal proportions. Grind into powder, form pills the size of mulberry seeds with rice paste. Take 50 pills per dose with rice drink. Treats chyluria.
Another prescription: Deer Antler Frost, Platycodi Semen (fried), Angelicae Sinensis Radix (body), Poria with Stimulus (Fushen), Dragon Bone (separately ground), Colla Corii Asini (stir-fried with clam powder) each one liang, Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma seven qian, Cyperi Rhizoma (vinegar-processed) two liang, Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma Preparata five qian, Dipsaci Radix one liang five qian. Grind into powder, use five liang of Dioscoreae Rhizoma (Shanyao) ground to powder to make a paste for pills. Size of mulberry seeds, take 50 pills per dose on an empty stomach with warm wine. Treats metrorrhagia progressing to leakage.
Lutai Wan (Deer Fetus Pill): One Deer Fetus (washed and boiled until soft), Rehmanniae Radix Preparata (mixed with one liang each of human milk powder and Dioscoreae Rhizoma, steamed nine times), Lycii Fructus (soaked in human milk) each eight liang, Cuscutae Semen (boiled in wine), Polygoni Multiflori Radix Preparata (processed with human milk soak) each ten liang, Dendrobii Caulis (stir-fried in wine) six liang, Morindae Officinalis Radix (stir-fried in wine), Astragali Membranacei Radix (roasted with butter) each five liang, Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma four liang. Grind into powder, form pills with Huanghao Gao (Yellow Mugwort Paste). Size of mulberry seeds, take three qian per dose with warm liquid. Treats sexual exhaustion.
Deer Tendon: Main functions: tonifying fatigue, healing severe injuries, strengthening sinews and bones. Can be cooked at will with pork or mutton.
