Produced at Ma Wei Po. Those who collect it must first perform a sacrifice before digging. After removing three chi of surface soil, earth resembling powder is found; it is fine, smooth, and lustrous, being most suitable for women. Wiping the face with it removes dark spots and freckles, beautifying the complexion.
*Records of Lingnan*: Produced at Mount Luofu, those with a pinkish hue are considered superior. *Guangdong Gazetteer*: Behind Chongxu Temple on Mount Luofu lies the alchemy stove of Ge Hong (Zichuan). The earth from this stove is washed with water used to rinse medicine mortars, formed into small pills, and dropped into water. Immediately, several strands of white vapor shoot out in all directions, generating bubbles continuously with audible sounds. In a short while, one divides into two, two into four, four into eight, and then it dissolves. Ingesting it can treat abdominal ailments. Taoists call it "Dan Zha" (Alchemical Residue) and have offered it to guests. For treating seasickness and disharmony with local climate/water, form pills the size of beans and swallow with water.
*Comprehensive Records of the Earth's Geography*: At Mount Jizu, there is earth left by Kasyapa washing his hands. Locals apply a small amount to the head if they suffer from headaches, which cures them promptly.
*Chuzhou Prefecture Gazetteer*: Within Yunhe Mountain, there is white Shan Ni (fine clay). It is obtained by stirring with water and allowing sedimentation. Mixed equally with glutinous rice flour and steamed, it serves as food to relieve hunger. It is named Guanyin Fen (Avalokitesvara Powder). It grows within mountain soil, white like powder, extremely fine. During years of famine, villagers dig it up, mix it with wheat flour to make cakes and pastries for eating. However, it should not be consumed in large quantities, as excessive intake causes constipation and abdominal heaviness due to its sticky and astringent nature affecting the intestines and stomach. That produced in caves should not be taken, fearing it may contain venomous saliva from snakes or vipers. Zheng Zhongkui records in *Lengshang*: In the year Bingzi during a famine, a monk in an nunnery at Shiwo Village, Yiyang, dreamed that the Great Compassion Bodhisattva informed him that stone powder existed in the soil beneath the mountain, which could be collected to stave off hunger. Following the dream, he dug and indeed found it. It resembled fern starch; when ground fine and steamed, it was exceptionally sweet and delicious. Villagers heard of this and competed to harvest it. Some wrapped it in animal fat oil, making it bitterly unpalatable. This is called Dashifen (Bodhisattva Powder), which is the same substance. *Bencao Gangmu*'s section on Stones mentions Shimian (Stone Flour), which is this item. It was believed not to grow commonly, but it is unknown that it is now present in all mountains. Li Shizhen's therapeutic indications only mention benefiting Qi and harmonizing the Middle Jiao, and stopping hunger when eaten. He did not know its ability to dispel dampness is ten times that of Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma). This likely follows the principle that earth can control water.
Taste: slightly sweet and bitter. Nature: neutral. Resolves insect poison, drives out edema, brightens the eyes, treats damp-heat jaundice.
