Wangjiangqing (Aconitum coreanum or similar species, context-dependent), also known as Huanjingcao (Jing-Returning Grass), Yuxingcao (Jade-Star Grass), Yinjiao Lusi (Silver-Footed Egret), and Xuejianchou (Blood-Sorrow). It sprouts after the Guyu solar term, growing beside water marshes or lake shores. Its stem is square-shaped and hollow; leaves are narrow, long, and pointed, with serrated edges, arranged oppositely on nodes. After the Xiaoman solar term, it sends up flowering stalks bearing spike-like inflorescences with small, layered purple flowers. With the Hanlu solar term, the plant withers; the root system has many fibrous roots, and the internodes are square, white, very long, and transparent/hollow. The root is particularly efficacious.
Wang Shengyu stated: The leaves of Yinjiao Lusi resemble Sesamum indicum (Huma) but are smaller; the erect stems are about one chi in length; leaves are opposite; the root closely resembles Apium graveolens var. dulce (Shuiqin/Water Celery), tastes sweet, and is rich in juice. It can be harvested, mixed with honey, steamed, and eaten to treat hoarseness due to Lung deficiency (Fei Xu Shi Yin); long-term consumption is most beneficial. It grows in the hills around West Lake. Based on this description, it seems to be a different species. Wangjiangqing has white but short roots; if the root is long, it is Yinjiao Lusi. Both are recorded here pending further verification.
*Li Shi Cao Mi* records: Wangjiangqing is commonly called Tianzhima (Heavenly Sesame) because its leaves resemble sesame leaves. The stem is square, leaves are opposite, and it blooms with red-purple flowers during the Spring Festival; the taste is cool and bitter. *Baicao Jing* records: It is cold in nature and slightly bitter in taste, enters the Lung Meridian (Fei Jing). It is taken for hemoptysis (Tu Xue), generates essence and restores strength, removes damp-heat, clears corneal nebulae (Xingzhang), treats lung abscess (Fei Yong), labor injury, exhaustion-induced jaundice (Tuoli Huang). When decocted with gold vessels and taken orally, it cures convulsions (Jing Feng).
For treating contusions and bruises, it strongly invigorates blood (Huoxue). Crushed juice is taken with wine, and the dregs are applied to the injured area. One person suffered an ankle sprain with pain preventing movement. Without fresh shoots, the root was sought, crushed for juice, added to a decoction, and taken three times, resulting in recovery. Combined with Achyranthes bidentata (Niuxi), Paeonia lactiflora (Shaoyao), Angelica sinensis (Danggui), Angelica pubescens (Duhuo), Yuanchaocao, Huoxuedan, Qiyecao, Wuzhao Long, Fangbangxing, Jinqiaonao, Fusiteng, [missing character]cao, etc., uniformly crushed for juice, taken with wine, it can save patients dying from severe injuries, provided the medicine reaches the throat. It also treats various ulcerative sores, tinea, and is effective for hemoptysis.
To remove corneal nebulae from the eyes: *Baicao Jing* records: Wangjiangqing 1 liang, sheep liver 1 piece, cooked together with tofu and eaten.
Hemoptysis: White honey 2 liang, steamed over boiling water until ripe; Wangjiangqing 1 liang, decocted for juice, mixed with honey and taken. Whether old or new onset, for all blood disorders, two doses bring remarkable results.
Mastitis (Ruyong) and breast nodules (Ruhe): *Qiuquan Jiemi Zuchuan Tianxia Diyi Qifang*: Specifically treats large, swollen, and hard mastitis and breast nodules, causing internal resolution upon ingestion. Use Jiulongchuan (Longjianpa) 1 liang, Xiye Dongqing (Shanhuangyang) 5 qian, Longzhua Zijinbian (Biancahu/Ma Biancao, also known as Longzhua Cao) 1 liang, Jinjiandao 3 qian, Jujie Jinsicao (Wangjiangqing) 5 qian, Biandi Jinlongcao (Diwuzhao) 3 qian. Decoct with 2 bowls of pure rice wine (Wuhui Jiu), add more than ten slices of Citrus medica (Xiangyuan) leaves or Citrus reticulata (Ju) leaves, boil down to half a zhong. Take 2-3 times according to appetite when hungry, and decoct the dregs again for consumption.
To interrupt malaria (Jue Nüe): Dry Wangjiangqing 5 qian, decocted in wine and taken.
My cousin Zhang Shigang regularly consumed Wangjiangqing in his life, using 3 qian of dried herb daily, decocted with six northern dates (Beizao). He persisted for three years, becoming light-bodied and agile-footed, free from illness for life. Its efficacy is not inferior to Ginseng (Renshen).
