This is the thick white outer layer paper used in tobacco shops to wrap tobacco. It is manufactured by soaking in a lime pit, retains alkaline residue, and lacks toughness; it is only suitable for wrapping tobacco and is named Jian Paper. In recent times, opium smokers use it to wipe the mouthpiece of opium pipes to make copper bright, and it can also be used to polish tinware. Zhu Xingshuangyan, a Jinshi from Wuyuan, stated: Officials in the North often store this paper. After morning washing, they wipe their faces with it. Over time, it turns dark complexion white and makes hair lustrous like jade.
Wiping the face removes darkness and sweat spots, beautifies the complexion, and enhances radiance.
