The clay teapots made from purple mud in Yixing are of the best quality. When used for medicinal suction to extract toxins, they are chosen because their rims are smooth and thin, preventing injury to the muscles.
To treat typhoid fever (Shanghan) with no sweating, use the suction method: Fill two clay teapots one-eighth full with distilled liquor (Baijiu), boil them in a double boiler until boiling, discard the liquor, and immediately press the rim of the pot against the navel to create a tight suction. Rotate the pots until sweating occurs, at which point the condition will resolve.
For extracting toxins from ruptured scrofula (Luoli): First, make a paste of flour and water into a cake and apply it to the ruptured area. Take two small clay teapots, boil distilled liquor in them until boiling, discard the liquor, and cover the face cake on the wound with the hot pot rims. Fumigate the sore as if using cupping therapy. When the pot cools, replace it with another. Repeat this several times until all toxic vapors are extracted, and the condition will heal. After fumigation, apply a ointment made from boiled pig bile to the sore; this prescription is extremely effective.
To treat bites from beasts and insects, as well as all toxic conditions caused by wind-cold: Use two clay teapots and fill them more than half full with distilled liquor. Heat one pot on fire until it boils silently, discard the liquor, and immediately press it onto the wound to suck out dark, dirty blood. The pot will fall off automatically when full of liquid. Then use the second pot in turn to repeatedly lift and suction the wound until all toxins are exhausted (as recorded in *Experience Broadly Collected*). According to Wang Zhanzhu's *Prescriptions Without Medication*: To treat rabid dog bites, use the clay pot suction method, which is identical to the above. After suction, pluck out the red hair from the top of the head, and the patient will recover.
Li Jinshi once stayed as a guest in Huainan. He stated that the islets in the Shanyang area were covered with reeds where cranes lived, laying many eggs among them. Villagers who could identify the timing would wait until the crane laid an egg, then secretly take it home, boil it in a pot, quickly rinse it with cold water, and once the shell was no longer hot, return it to the nest. Unaware, the crane continued to incubate it. After twenty-one days (three sevens), the yolk and white inside the egg would be fresh again. Steal it back, boil it again, and return it to the nest; the crane would incubate it once more. Repeating this three times, the outer shell of the crane egg would become thick and lustrous like purple jade, forming a cup shape. Steal it back again, saw off the top, and inlay the exterior with gold and jade decorations to form a cup shape, named "Spirit Crane Cup" (Linghe Zhan). When wine is poured into it, the shadow of a small crane often floats on the surface of the wine. It is said that consuming from it prolongs life and can treat heart diseases. Such items are rare, and those available in the market command high prices.
It has the effects of calming the spirit (Shen) and stabilizing palpitations. For children, it removes fright and epilepsy; for pregnant women, it nourishes the fetus and mitigates smallpox/toxins. Carrying it while traveling wards off snake venom, gu poison, and all other toxins.
