Water from the freshwater mussel (Bivalvia). Freshwater mussels inhabit freshwater environments; their greenish color enters the Liver meridian, thus possessing the efficacy of clearing heat, promoting dampness resolution, and treating night blindness (Achromatopsia/Nyctalopia). The *Bencao Gangmu* records the functions of mussel meat and mussel powder, but exclusively omits the water contained within its shell. It is unknown that this water is the essence of True Yin and Heavenly Water. It has the broadest medicinal applications, and this text specifically supplements this omission.
It clears heat, calms the fetus, resolves phlegm, eliminates dampness, resolves alcohol accumulation, and detoxifies mineral drugs (Dan Shi Yao Du).
For infantile aphonic convulsions in newborns, Feng Yuan stated: Use water from a live mussel to grind ink, then drip it into the mouth. After a short while, black stool will be passed, and the condition will heal.
For scalds and burns, apply water from a raw mussel heated by roasting.
Tu Ben said: Sha Ge (Sand Clam) is also known as Tu Chi (Earth Spoon), produced in Wuhang. It resembles a clam but is larger, with a white tongue-like organ, named Xishi She (Xi Shi's Tongue). *Min Bu Shu* states: Among marine delicacies from the four eastern commanderies, Xishi She ranks first, followed by Oyster House (Li Fang). Xishi She was originally named Che Ge (Cart Clam); due to its deliciousness, it received the honorific name "Xishi She." It is produced in Changle Bay. *Bencao Congxin*: Xishi She exists in Wenzhou, Zhejiang, living in sea mud. It resembles Che Ao (a type of clam) but is flatter, often protruding flesh over an inch long, resembling a tongue, hence the name. Min noted: In the residence of Magistrate Liu Fangzhou at the Lin'an Inn, Liu being the nephew of the Grand Secretary of Zhucheng, it was reported that among delicacies from Jieshu, none surpassed Xishi She. The world considers those produced at Huangshilan Seaside in Zhucheng as the finest. This creature lives in sand, appearing only in mid-winter, and disappearing after the fifteenth day of the first lunar month. Harvesters first use a stone roller to flatten the sandy shore, making the sand firm. After a short while, observing small holes on the sand surface emitting foam indicates the presence of this creature, after which they dig to retrieve it. The *Bencao Gangmu* section on Sea Clams and Clams exclusively omitted this; now, following Wu's *Bencao Congxin*, it is supplemented.
Sweet, salty, neutral. Benefits essence, moistens zang-fu organs, stops thirst and dryness, serving as a crucial herb for tonifying Yin. (*Congxin*)
*Huanyou Biji*: Xishi She resembles Che Ao but is flatter, living in sea mud. Also known as Sha Ge, it can be two inches long, often protruding flesh over an inch long, resembling a tongue. Commonly named for its sweetness and deliciousness.
Commonly called Guijiao Cheng (Turtle-foot Razor Clam), abundant along the seashore. Ancient texts did not record its medicinal use. Binhu (Li Shizhen) alone added this item, recording only its ability to promote urination, unaware of its other functions.
Zhu Paishan's *Ganyuan Xiaoshi*: Guijiao Cheng resembles turtle feet, growing on rocks in the sea. Its shell resembles crab claws, its color is purple and edible; this is Shi Li (Stone Snail). Jiang Yan wrote the *Ode to Stone Snail*.
Descends cold, resolves accumulation, distension, dampness, and swelling. For individuals with deficiency and damage, boiling and eating it with rice wine provides the greatest nourishment. (Jie Yu)
