Produced in Guangdong. It has a chicken head and a crow's beak, yellow feathers, pure black down on the abdomen, long tail drooping downwards, and its cry is "huo huo". Its nature favors eating snakes. When feeding its young, it captures chicks, breaks their two feet, and then feeds them with snakes. After three days, the feet heal; this process of breaking and healing repeats.
Capturing and eating it can treat bone and joint fractures.
Grows in the western frontier, living in flocks of hundreds or thousands, perching in the snow. *Records of Western Regions* states: Snow chickens in Kashgar fly in groups, extremely fat and delicious, people eat them, but they are dry in nature. For medicinal use, males are superior.
It warms the Dantian (Energy Center), strengthens Yuan Yang (Original Yang), and eliminates all diseases caused by accumulated cold, yin-cold, and stubborn masses, being more effective than Snow Lotus.
Zhu Paishan's *Small Records of Orange Garden* notes: The foreign duck breed originates from the ocean, shaped like a duck, with red crest feathers and colorful plumage, tame and good at flying. Males weigh up to ten jin, while females are normal size. Their nature is lustful; male and female mate four or five times daily, hence used in sexual arts. The eggs are as large as goose eggs, extremely delicious, incubated by hens for about a month until chicks hatch, which grow easily. It assists the Yang pathway, strengthens waist and knees, tonifies Mingmen (Gate of Life), and warms the Water Zang (Kidney).
This is the gallbladder of the filial crow, most abundant in eastern Zhejiang, all fat, black, and large, found everywhere. My disciple Xu Penggui from Fenghua resides in Baiyan, where mountains are remote, paths secluded, and ancient trees dense. He said locals collect crow gallbladders. Crow gallbladder juice disperses to the body and eyes during the day, allowing essence to gather and see objects beyond smoke and clouds; at night, the juice returns to the gallbladder. The method of extraction: wait for the crow to sleep at night, take advantage of its unawareness, sever its head with a sharp knife, quickly open the abdomen to extract it. The gallbladder should be full of bile without leakage, then thread it through and dry in shade for medicinal use. If the method is improper or the crow is startled awake, even if killed and the gallbladder obtained, it will be an empty skin without juice, unusable.
It brightens the eyes and restores sight, surpassing Akitaka (Azurite) in efficacy, most verified for treating congenital blindness, and resolves Veratrum viride toxicity.
Excellent prescription for ulcerative blepharitis and visual obstruction without medication: Apply crow gallbladder to the eyes, and it heals immediately.
