木蛭疮毒，南方多雨，有物曰木蛭，大类鼻涕，生于枯木之上，闻人气则闪闪而动。人
过其下，堕人体间，即立成疮，久则遍体。惟以朱砂、麝香涂之，即愈。（张杲《医说》）

癫痫狂乱 归神丹：治疗各种惊恐忧虑、思虑过多健忘，以及各类心气不足、癫痫狂乱。取猪心两个，切开，放入大朱砂二两、灯心草三两，用麻绳扎紧，在石器中煮一个时辰（约12小时），取出朱砂研为粉末，加入茯神粉末二两，用酒打成的薄糊作为粘合剂，制成如梧桐子大小的丸剂。每次服用九至十五丸，最多二十五丸，用麦门冬汤送服。病情严重者，用乳香、人参汤送服。（出自《百一选方》）
产后癫狂：败血及邪气侵入心脏，出现幻觉看见鬼神之物，导致癫狂。使用大辰砂一至二钱，研细并经过水飞处理，用婴儿乳汁三至四茶匙调湿，取一条紫项地龙（蚯蚓）放入药中滚动三次，刮净表面，去掉地龙不用，加入无灰酒一盏，分三到四次服用。（何氏方）
心虚遗精：取猪心一个，剖开成片状但相连，将飞过（水飞）的朱砂末掺入其中，用线捆扎，在白水中煮熟后食用。（唐瑶《经验方》）

伤寒发汗：《外台秘要》记载：治疗伤寒时气温疫，头痛高热脉象盛大，发病初起一、两天的情况。取真丹一两，水一斗，煮至一升，一次性服用，盖被取汗。忌食生血类食物。《肘后备急方》记载：用真丹粉末，酒调匀，遍身涂抹，面向火坐，出汗即愈。
辟除禳解温疫：上品朱砂一两，细研，用蜜和制成如麻子大小的丸剂。常在太岁日清晨，全家大小不吃其他食物，向东各吞服三七丸，不要让它接触牙齿，可永远不得温疫。（《外台》）
各种吐血：朱砂、蛤粉等分，研磨成粉末。用酒服用二钱。另一法：丹砂半两，金箔四片，蚯蚓三条。共同研磨，制成如小豆大小的丸剂。每次用冷酒送服二丸。（《圣济录》）
孕妇胎动不安：朱砂末一钱，与三个鸡蛋清混合，搅匀一次性服用。胎死则排出，未死则安胎。（《普济方》）
胎儿死于腹中不出：朱砂一两，水煮数沸，研为粉末。用酒送服立即产出。（《十全博救方》）
眼睛长障翳：取生辰砂一块，每天擦拭，自然消退。王居云患此病，使用此法如常有效。（《普济方》）
眼膜息肉：丹砂一两，五月五日研匀，在铜器中以水浆一盏、腊水一盏，浸泡七日，晒干，用铜刀刮下，再研细瓶装收存。每次点少许于患处。（《圣济录》）

木蛭疮毒，南方多雨，有一种生物叫木蛭，大类鼻涕，生长在枯木之上，闻到人气就会闪闪而动。人从它下面经过，掉落在人体间，立刻形成疮疡，久了则遍布全身。只有用朱砂、麝香涂敷，即可痊愈。（张杲《医说》）
Pediatric convulsive fever with frequent crying during night sleep: Take Cinnabaris (Zhusha, 朱砂) half liang and Calculus Bovis (Niuhuang, 牛黄) one fen. Grind into powder. Administer one zi dose each time, mixed with water from ground Cornu Rhinocerotis (Xijiao, 犀角). (From *Puji Fang*)
Acute convulsive spasms: Take Cinnabaris (Dansha, 丹砂) half liang, one Arisaema Cum Bile (Tiannanxing, 天南星) weighing one liang (pounded until cracked and soaked in wine), and three large Scorpionis (Daxie, 大蝎). Grind into powder. Administer one zi dose each time, taken down with Mint Decoction (Bohe Tang, 薄荷汤). (From *Shengji Lu*)
Post-traumatic muteness due to fright or injury where blood enters the heart orifice causing inability to speak: Grind Cinnabaris (Zhusha, 朱砂) into powder, mix with fresh blood of a male pig, and form pills the size of sesame seeds. Administer seven pills each time with Jujube Decoction (Zao Tang, 枣汤). (From *Zhizhi Fang*)
Sudden death due to alien influence (Kewu): Take one fangcun bi of genuine Cinnabar (Zhen Dan, 真丹), mix with three he of honey, and administer via gavage. (From *Zhouhou Fang*)
Epilepsy and mania - Guishen Dan (Guishen Wan, 归神丹): Treats all forms of fright and anxiety, excessive thinking leading to forgetfulness, as well as various deficiencies of Heart Qi, epilepsy, and mania. Take two Pig Hearts (Zhuxin, 猪心), slice open, insert two liang of large Cinnabaris (Zhusha, 朱砂) and three liang of Centri Herba (Dengxincao, 灯心), tie tightly with hemp rope, and boil in a stone vessel for one shichen (approx. 12 hours). Remove the Cinnabaris, grind into powder, add two liang of Poria Cum Radix (Fushen, 茯神) powder, use thin paste made with wine as binder, and form pills the size of Sophora Seeds (Wutongzi, 梧子). Administer nine to fifteen pills, up to twenty-five pills, each time with Ophiopogonis Decoction (Mendong Tang, 麦门冬汤). For severe cases, administer with Frankincense and Ginseng Decoction (Ruxiang Renshen Tang, 乳香人参汤). (From *Baiyi Xuanfang*)
Postpartum mania: Due to stagnant blood and evil qi entering the heart, seeing hallucinations of spirits, leading to mania. Use one to two qian of large Chen Sha (Da Chensha, 大辰砂), finely ground and washed by water flotation (Feiguo, 飞过). Mix with three to four tea spoons of infant breast milk to moisten. Roll one Earthworm (Dilong, 地龙) with purple neck in the medicine mixture three times, scrape clean, remove the earthworm, add one zhan of unadulterated wine, and divide into three to four doses for administration. Heart deficiency with spermatorrhea: Take one Pig Heart (Zhuxin, 猪心), slice but keep connected, sprinkle with washed Cinnabaris powder (Feiguo Zhusha Mo, 飞过朱砂末), tie with thread, boil in plain water until cooked, and eat. (Tang Yao's *Jingyan Fang*)

Heart pain in men and women: Equal parts of Cinnabaris (Zhusha, 朱砂) and Alum (Mingfan, 明矾 [calcined]). Grind into powder. Take with boiling water. (*Zhaixuan Fang*) Old masses in heart and abdomen and sudden onset of masses. Finely grind Cinnabaris (Zhusha, 朱砂), mix with rice. Starve a rooster for two days, feed it this rice, collect its feces, dry and grind into powder. Take one fangcun bi with warm wine, three times daily. Continue until finished, stop when cured. (*Waitai Miyao*) Cholera with muscle cramps and cold body, but slight warmth under the heart. Two liang of Cinnabaris (Zhusha, 朱砂 [ground]) and three liang of wax. Mix and form pills. Smoke them in a fire basket, cover thickly around to prevent smoke leakage. Also place fire under the bed to keep the abdomen slightly warm. After a long time, sweating should occur and consciousness will return. (*Waitai Miyao*)
Expelling miasma and restoring yang: Three liang of Cinnabaris (Dansha, 丹砂), washed by water flotation. Take half qian each time, administered with warm honey water. (*Shengji Lu*)
Inducing sweating for Cold Damage: *Waitai Miyao* records: Treating Cold Damage, seasonal epidemic fevers, with headache, high fever, and surging pulse, within one or two days of onset. Take one liang of genuine Cinnabar (Zhen Dan, 真丹), one dou of water, boil down to one sheng, take in one dose, cover with blanket to induce sweating. Avoid raw blood products. *Zhouhou* records: Use genuine Cinnabar powder, mixed with wine, apply all over the body, sit facing fire, cure upon sweating.
Expelling and averting epidemic fevers: One liang of premium grade Cinnabaris (Zhusha, 朱砂), finely ground, mixed with honey to form pills the size of sesame seeds. On the day of Taishi (Tai Sui), early morning, the whole family should not eat other foods, face east, and swallow thirty-seven pills each, avoiding contact with teeth, to permanently avoid epidemic fevers. Various types of hematemesis: Equal parts of Cinnabaris (Zhusha, 朱砂) and Concha Meretricis et Cyclinae (Gafen, 蛤粉), ground into powder. Take two qian with wine. Another method: Half liang of Cinnabaris (Dansha, 丹砂), four pieces of Gold Leaf (Jinbo, 金箔), three earthworms. Grind together, form pills the size of beans. Take two pills each time with cold wine. (*Shengji Lu*)
Fetal movement in pregnant women: One qian of Cinnabaris powder (Zhusha Mo, 朱砂末), mixed with three egg whites, stirred evenly and taken in one dose. If the fetus is dead, it will be expelled; if alive, it will be secured. (*Puji Fang*)
Dead fetus retained in uterus: One liang of Cinnabaris (Zhusha, 朱砂), boiled in water for several boils, ground into powder. Take with wine for immediate expulsion. (*Shiquan Bojiu Fang*)
Eye cataracts/opacities: Take a piece of Sheng Chen Sha (Shengchen Sha, 生辰砂), rub on the eye daily, it will naturally recede. Wang Juyun suffered from this, used it with usual effect. (*Puji Fang*)
Eyelid polyps: One liang of Cinnabaris (Dansha, 丹砂), ground evenly on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month. In a copper vessel, soak in one zhan of water浆 (shuijiang, 水浆) and one zhan of winter water (lashui, 腊水) for seven days, dry in sun, scrape off with copper knife, grind again and store in bottle. Apply a small amount to the affected area each time. (*Shengji Lu*)
Pterygium and pearl tubes in eyes: Equal parts of genuine Cinnabar (Zhen Dan, 真丹) and Fritillaria Bulb (Beimu, 贝母), ground into powder. Instill into eyes, three to four times daily. (*Zhouhou Fang*)
Facial dark spots: One egg (remove yolk), one liang of Cinnabaris powder (Zhusha Mo, 朱砂末). Seal inside the egg, place under a black hen incubating eggs, until chicks hatch. Take out and apply to face, wash off immediately. Within five applications, skin becomes white as jade. This was a common formula for Consort Zhang of the Chen Dynasty, from *Xi Wangmu Zhenzhong Fang*. (*Waitai Miyao*)
Sand wasp stings: Cinnabaris powder (Zhusha Mo, 朱砂末), applied with water. (*Zhaixuan Fang*)
Wood leech sore toxicity: The south is rainy; there is an organism called Wood Leech (Muzhi, 木蛭), resembling snot, growing on dead wood, moving when sensing human breath. If it falls on a person passing underneath, sores appear immediately, spreading over the body if untreated. Only applying Cinnabaris (Zhusha, 朱砂) and Moschus (Shexiang, 麝香) cures it. (Zhang Gao's *Yi Shuo*)
Postpartum tongue protrusion unable to retract: Apply Cinnabaris (Dansha, 丹砂). Secretly throw pots and pans to simulate falling sounds to startle her/him, the tongue will automatically retract. (*Jijian Fang*)
