【释名】猪（《本经》）、豚（同上）、 （音加）、彘（音滞）、 （音坟）。
时珍曰∶按许氏《说文》云∶豕字象毛足而后有尾形。林氏《小说》云∶豕食不洁，故
谓之豕。坎为豕，水畜而性趋下喜秽也。牡曰 ，曰牙；牝曰彘，曰 （音巴），曰KT （音
娄）。牡去势曰 。四蹄白曰 。猪高五尺曰 （音厄）。豕之子，曰猪，曰豚，曰 （音斛）。
一子曰特，二子曰师，三子曰 ，末子曰么。生三月曰 ，六月曰 。何承天纂文云∶梁州
曰
颂曰∶按∶扬雄《方言》曰∶燕朝鲜之间谓猪为 ，关东西谓之彘，或曰豕，南楚曰 ，
吴扬之间曰猪子，其实一种也。《礼记》谓之刚鬣，崔豹《古今注》谓之参军。
【集解】颂曰∶凡猪骨细，少筋多膏，大者有重百余斤。食物至寡，故人畜养之，甚易
生息。时珍曰；猪天下畜之，而各有不同。生青兖徐淮者耳大，生燕冀者皮浓，生梁雍者足
短，生辽东者头白，生豫州者 短，生江南者耳小（谓之江猪），生岭南者白而极肥。猪孕
四
月而生，在畜属水，在卦属坎，在禽应室星。
猪肉
【气味】酸，冷，无毒。 凡猪肉∶苦，微寒，有小毒。
江猪肉∶酸，平，有小毒。 豚肉∶辛，平，有小毒。
《别录》曰∶ 猪肉治狂病。凡猪肉能闭血脉，弱筋骨，虚人肌，不可久食，病患金疮
者尤甚。
思邈曰∶凡猪肉久食，令人少子精，发宿病。豚肉久食，令人遍体筋肉碎痛乏气。鼎曰∶
江猪多食，令人体重；作脯，少有腥气。
诜曰∶久食杀药，动风发疾。伤寒疟痢痰痼痔漏诸疾，食之必再发。
时珍曰∶北猪味薄，煮之汁清；南猪味浓，煮之汁浓，毒尤甚。入药用纯黑 猪。凡白
猪、花猪、 猪、牝猪、病猪；黄膘猪、米猪，并不可食。黄膘煮之汁黄，米猪肉中有米。
《说文》“豕食于星下则生息米”，《周礼》“豕盲视而交睫者星”，皆指此也。反乌梅、桔梗、
黄连、胡黄连（犯之令人泻利）及苍耳（令人动风）。合生姜食，生面 发风；合荞麦食，
落毛
发，患风病；合葵菜食，少气；合百花菜、吴茱萸食，发痔疾；合胡荽食，烂人脐；合牛肉
食，生虫；合羊肝、鸡子、鲫鱼、豆黄食，滞气；合龟、鳖肉食，伤人。凡煮猪肉，得皂荚
子、桑白皮、高良姜、黄蜡，不发风气；得旧篱篾，易熟也。
【主治】疗狂病久不愈（《别录》）。压丹石，解热毒，
补肾气虚竭（《千金》）。疗水银风，并中土坑恶气（《日华》）。
【发明】时珍曰∶按钱乙治小儿疳病麝香丸，以猪胆和丸，猪肝汤服。疳渴者，以猪肉
汤或
弘景曰∶猪为用最多，惟肉不宜多食，令人暴肥，盖虚肌所致也。
震亨曰∶猪肉补气，世俗以为补阴误矣，惟补阳尔。今之虚损者，不在阳而在阴。以肉
补阴，是以火济水。盖肉性入胃便作湿热，热生痰，痰生则气不降而诸证作矣。谚云∶猪不
姜，食之发大风，中年气血衰，面发黑 也。
韩 曰∶凡肉有补，惟猪肉无补，人习之化也。
【附方】旧五，新十五。
噤口痢疾∶腊肉脯，煨熟食之，妙。（李楼《奇方》）
小儿刮肠痢疾，噤口闭目至重者∶精猪肉一两，薄切炙香，以腻粉末半钱，铺上令食，
或置鼻头闻香，自然要食也。（《活幼口议》）
上气咳嗽烦满气喘∶用猪肉切作 子，猪脂煎熟食之。（《心镜》）
浮肿胀满不食心闷∶用猪脊肉一双，切作生以蒜、薤食之。（《心镜》）
身肿攻心∶用生猪肉以浆水洗，压干切脍，蒜、薤啖之，一日二次，下气去风，乃外国

破伤风肿∶新杀猪肉，乘热割片，贴患处。连换三片，其肿立消。（《简便》）
白虎风病∶用猪肉三串，以大麻子一合，酒半盏相和，口含 上。将肉擘向病处，咒曰∶
相州张如意、张得兴，是汝白虎本师，急出。乃安肉于床下，瘥则送于路，神验。（《近效》）
风狂歌笑，行走不休∶用 猪肉一斤，煮熟切脍，和酱、醋食。或羹粥炒，任服之。（《食
医心镜》）
解丹石毒，发热困笃∶用肥猪肉五斤，葱、薤各半斤，煮食或作 食。必腹鸣毒下，以
水淘之得石，沙石尽则
解钟乳毒，下利不止∶食猪肉则愈。（《千金翼》）
服石英法∶白石英一大两，袋盛，水三斗，煎四升，去石，以猪肉一斤细切，椒葱盐豉
煮食。十日一作。（《外台》）
伤损不食∶凡打扑伤损，三五日水食不入口。用生猪肉二大钱，打烂，温水洗去血水，
再擂烂，以阴阳汤打和。以半钱用鸡毛送入咽内，却以阴阳汤灌下之。其食虫闻香拱开瘀血
而上，胸中自然开解。此乃损血凝聚心间，虫食血饱，他物虫不来探故也。谓之骗通之法。

山行辟蛭∶山水中，草木上，有石蛭，着人足，则穿肌入肉中，害人。但以腊猪膏和盐
涂足胫趾，即不着人也。（《千金方》）
竹刺入肉∶多年熏肉，切片包裹之，即出。（《救急方》）
猪头肉（以下并用 猪者良， 猪亦可）。
【气味】有毒。时珍曰∶按∶《生生编》云∶猪肉毒惟在首，故有病
【主治】寒热五癃鬼毒（《千金》）。同五味煮食，补虚乏气力，去惊痫五痔，下丹石，
亦发风气（《食疗》）。
腊猪头∶烧灰，治鱼脐疮。
【发明】时珍曰∶按《名医录》云∶学究任道病体疮肿黑，状狭而长。北医王通曰∶此
鱼脐疮也。一因风毒蕴结，二因气血凝滞，三因误食人汗而然。乃以一异散敷之，日数易而
愈。恳求其方。曰∶但雪玄一味耳。任遍访四方无知之者。有名医郝允曰∶《圣惠方》治此，
用腊猪头烧灰，鸡卵白调敷，即此也。又《图纂》云∶五月戊辰日，以猪头祀灶，所求如意；
以腊猪耳悬梁上，令人丰足，此亦厌禳之
项肉
俗名槽头肉，肥脆，能动风。
【主治】酒积，面黄腹胀。以一两切如泥，合甘遂末一钱作丸，纸裹煨香食之，酒下。
当利出酒布袋也（时珍。出《普济》）。
脂膏
【修治】时珍曰∶凡凝者为肪为脂，释者为膏为油，腊月炼净收用。
恭曰∶十二月上亥日，取入新瓶，埋亥地百日用之，名 脂。每升入鸡子白十四枚，更
良。
【气味】甘，微寒，无毒。反乌梅、梅子。
【主治】煎膏药，解斑蝥、芫青毒（《别录》）。解地胆、亭长、野葛、硫黄毒、诸肝毒，
利肠胃，通小便，除五疸水肿，生毛发（时珍）。破冷结，散宿血（孙思邈）。利血脉，散风
热，润肺。入膏药，主诸疮（苏颂）。杀虫，治皮肤风，涂恶疮（《日华》）。治痈疽（苏恭）。
悦皮肤。作手膏，不皲裂（陶弘景）。胎产衣不下，以酒多服，佳（徐之才）。 膏∶生发悦
面（《别录》）。
【附方】旧八，新二十五。
伤寒时气∶猪膏如弹丸，温水化服，日三次。（《肘后方》）
五种疸疾∶黄胆、谷疸、酒疸、黑疸、女劳疸，黄汗如黄柏汁。用猪脂一斤，温热服，
日三，当利乃愈。（《肘后方》）
赤白带下∶炼猪脂三合，酒五合，煎沸顿服。（《千金方》）
小便不通∶猪脂一斤，水二升，煎三沸，饮之立通。（《千金方》）
关格闭塞∶猪脂、姜汁各二升，微火煎至二升，
下酒五合，和煎分服。（《千金》）
痘疮便秘四五日∶用肥猪膘一块，水煮熟，切如豆大，与食。自然脏腑滋润，痂 易落，
无损于儿。（陈文中方）
卒中五尸∶仲景用猪脂一鸡子，苦酒一升，煮沸灌之。（《肘后方》）
中诸肝毒∶猪膏顿服一升。（《千金方》）
食发成症∶心腹作痛，咽间如有虫上下，嗜食与油者是也。用猪脂二升，酒三升，煮三
沸服，日三次。同上
上气咳嗽猪肪四两，煮百沸以来，切，和酱、醋食之。（《心镜》）
肺热暴喑∶猪脂油一斤炼过，入白蜜一斤，再炼少顷，滤净冷定。不时挑服一匙，即愈。
无疾常服，亦润肺。（万氏方）
小儿噤风∶小儿百日内风噤，口中有物如蜗牛，或如黄头白虫者。薄猪肪擦之即消。（《圣
惠方》）
小儿蛔病羸瘦∶猪膏服之。（《千金方》）
产后虚汗∶猪膏、姜汁、白蜜各一升，酒五合，煎五上五下。每服方寸匕。（《千金翼》）
胞衣不下∶猪脂一两，水一盏，煎五七沸，服之当下。（《圣惠方》）
吹奶寒热∶用猪肪冷水浸拓，热即易之，立效。（《子母秘录》）
发落不生∶以酢泔洗净，布揩令热。以腊猪脂，入细研铁上生衣，煮三沸，涂之，遍生。

口疮塞咽∶用猪膏、白蜜各一斤，黄连末一两，合煎取汁熬稠。每含如半枣许，日四五。
夜二（《千金》）
疥疮有虫∶猪膏煎芫花，涂之。（《肘后》）
鼠 瘰 ∶用猪膏淹生地黄，煎六七沸，涂之。（《千金》）
漏疮不合∶以纸 粘腊猪脂纳疮中，日五夜三。（《千金翼》）
漆疮作痒∶猪膏频涂之。（《千金》）
咽喉骨鲠∶吞脂膏一团。不瘥更吞之。（《千金方》）
身面疣目∶以猪脂揩之，令血出少许，神验不可加。（《千金》）
误吞针钉∶猪脂多食令饱，自然裹出。（《普济方》）
杂物入目∶猪脂煮取水面如油者，仰卧去枕点鼻中。不过数度，与物俱
蜈蚣入耳∶炙猪肪肉令香，掩耳自出。（《梅师》）
虫蚁入耳∶（方法同上）。
发背发乳∶猪脂切片，冷水浸贴。日易四五十片，甚妙。（《急救方》）
脑
【气味】甘，寒，有毒。时珍曰∶《礼记》云∶食豚去脑。《孙真人食忌》云∶猪脑损男
子阳道，临房不能行事。酒后尤不可食。《延寿书》云∶今人以盐酒食猪脑，是自引贼也。
【主治】风眩脑鸣，冻疮（《别录》）。主痈肿，涂纸上贴之，干则易。治手足皲裂出血，
以酒化洗，并涂之（时珍）。
【附方】新一。
喉痹已破疮口痛者∶猪脑髓蒸熟，入姜、醋吃之，即愈。（《普济方》）
髓
【气味】甘，寒，无毒。
【主治】扑损恶疮（颂）。涂小儿解颅、头疮，及脐肿、眉疮、 疥。服之，补骨髓，
益虚劳
【发明】时珍曰∶按丹溪治虚损补阴丸，多用猪脊髓和丸。取其通肾命，以骨入骨，以
髓补髓也。
【附方】新七。
骨蒸劳伤∶猪脊髓一条，猪胆汁一枚，童便一盏，柴胡、前胡、胡黄连、乌梅各一钱，
韭白七根，同煎七分，温服。不过三服，其效如神。（《瑞竹堂方》）
小儿解颅∶猪牙车骨煎取髓敷，日三。（《千金方》）
小儿脐肿∶猪颊车髓十八铢，杏仁半两，研敷。（《千金》）
小儿眉疮∶猪颈骨髓六、七枚，白胶香二钱。同入铜器熬稠，待冷为末
小儿 疮∶猪牙车骨年久者捶碎，炙令髓出，热取涂之。（《短剧
小儿头疮∶猪筒骨中髓，和腻粉成剂，复纳骨中，火中煨香，取出研末。先温盐水洗净，
敷之。亦治肥疮出汁。（《普济方》）
小儿疳疮方同上。
血 【气味】咸，平，无毒。思邈曰∶涩，平。
时珍曰∶服地黄、何首乌诸补药者忌之，云能损阳也。同黄豆食，滞气。
【主治】生血∶疗贲豚暴气，及海外瘴气（《日华》）。中风绝伤，头风眩晕，及淋沥（苏
恭）。猝下血不止，清酒和炒食之（思邈）。清油炒食，治嘈杂有虫（时珍）。压丹石，解诸
毒（吴瑞）。
【发明】
时珍曰∶按陈自明云∶妇人嘈杂，皆血液泪汗变而为痰，或言是血嘈，多以猪血炒食而
愈，盖以血导血归原之意尔。此固一说，然亦有蛔虫作嘈杂者，虫得血腥则饱而伏也。
【附方】新五。
交接阴毒，腹痛欲死∶ 猪血乘热和酒饮之。（《肘后》）
中满腹胀∶旦食不能暮食。用不着盐水猪血，漉去水，晒干为末。酒服取泄，甚效。（李
楼《奇方》）
杖疮血出∶猪血一升，锻石七升，和剂烧灰，再以水和丸，又烧，凡三次，为末敷之，
效。（《外台》）
中射罔毒∶猪血饮之即解。（《肘后》）
蜈蚣入腹∶猪血灌之。或饱食，少顷饮桐油，当吐出。
心血
【主治】调朱砂末服，治惊痫癫疾（吴瑞）。治猝恶死，及痘疮倒靥（时珍）。
【发明】时珍曰∶古方治惊风癫痫痘疾，多用猪心血，盖以心归心，以血导血之意。用
尾血者，取其动而不息也。猪为水畜，其血性寒而能解毒制阳故也。韩飞霞云∶猪心血能引
药入本经，实非其补。沈存中云∶猪血得龙脑直入心经，是矣。

【释名】猪（《本经》）、豚（同上）、豭（音加，公猪）、彘（音滞，猪的统称）、豝（音坟，母猪）。
李时珍说：据许慎《说文解字》记载：“豕”字的字形像有毛足而后有尾巴的形状。林氏《小说》说：猪吃食不干净，所以称为“豕”。在八卦中，“坎”卦代表猪，因为猪是水畜，本性趋下且喜欢肮脏环境。公猪叫“豭”，也叫“牙”；母猪叫“彘”，也叫“豝”（音巴），也叫“牸”（音娄）。去势的公猪叫“騬”。四蹄白色的猪叫“骍”。身高五尺的猪叫“豮”（音厄）。猪的幼崽叫“猪”，也叫“豚”，也叫“豯”（音斛）。一岁的猪叫“特”，两岁的叫“师”，三岁的叫“豮”，最小的叫“么”。出生三个月的叫“豯”，六个月大的叫“豮”。何承天编纂的《纂文》说：梁州地区……
苏颂说：据考证：扬雄《方言》说：燕国、朝鲜之间称猪为“豭”，关东、关西称为“彘”，或者叫“豕”，南楚地区称为“豝”，吴地、扬州之间称为“猪子”，其实都是同一种动物。《礼记》称之为“刚鬣”，崔豹《古今注》称之为“参军”。
【集解】苏颂说：凡是猪骨头细，筋少膏多，大的有一百多斤重。食物很少，所以人们饲养它，很容易繁殖生长。李时珍说：猪在天下各地都有饲养，但各有不同。生在青兖徐淮地区的耳朵大，生在燕冀地区的皮厚，生在梁雍地区的脚短，生在辽东地区的头白，生在豫州地区的……短，生在江南地区的耳朵小（称为江猪），生在岭南地区的白色且极肥。猪怀孕四个月生产，在畜类中属水，在卦象中属坎，在禽星对应室宿。
猪肉
【气味】酸，冷，无毒。凡猪肉：苦，微寒，有小毒。
江猪肉：酸，平，有小毒。豚肉：辛，平，有小毒。
《名医别录》说：猪肉治疗狂病。凡猪肉能闭塞血脉，削弱筋骨，使人体肌肉虚弱，不可久食，患有金疮（刀箭创伤）的病人尤其不宜食用。
孙思邈说：凡猪肉久食，使人精子减少，引发旧病。豚肉久食，使人全身筋肉碎痛、气力不足。孟诜说：江猪多吃，使人身体沉重；做成肉脯，腥味较少。
陈藏器说：久食会抑制药效，诱发风疾。伤寒、疟疾、痢疾、痰饮、顽固性疾病、痔疮、漏管等各种疾病，吃了必然复发。
李时珍说：北猪味道淡，煮出来的汤清；南猪味道浓，煮出来的汤浓，毒性尤其严重。入药需用纯黑色的猪。凡是白猪、花猪、阉猪、母猪、病猪；黄膘猪、米猪肉，都不可食用。黄膘猪煮出的汤是黄色的，米猪肉中有米粒状物质。《说文解字》说“猪在星宿下进食则生出米”，《周礼》说“猪盲视且睫毛相交的是星猪”，都是指这种情况。不能与乌梅、桔梗、黄连、胡黄连（触犯后令人腹泻）以及苍耳（令人动风）同食。与生姜同食，易生面疔并发风；与荞麦同食，导致毛发脱落，患风病；与葵菜同食，气虚；与百花菜、吴茱萸同食，引发痔疾；与胡荽（香菜）同食，烂人肚脐；与牛肉同食，生虫；与羊肝、鸡蛋、鲫鱼、豆豉同食，阻滞气机；与龟、鳖肉同食，伤害人体。凡是煮猪肉，加入皂荚子、桑白皮、高良姜、黄蜡，不会引发风气；加入旧篱笆篾片，容易煮熟。
【主治】治疗狂病日久不愈（《名医别录》）。压制丹石药性，解除热毒，补肾气虚竭（《千金方》）。治疗水银中毒，以及进入土坑遭受的恶气中毒（《日华子本草》）。
【发明】李时珍说：据钱乙治疗小儿疳病的麝香丸，用猪胆汁和丸，猪肝汤送服。患疳渴症的，用猪肉汤或……
陶弘景说：猪的用途最多，只有肉不宜多吃，使人突然肥胖，这是肌肉虚弱所致。
朱震亨说：猪肉补气，世俗认为补阴是错误的，其实是补阳。现在的虚损病人，病不在阳而在阴。用肉来补阴，就像用火去济助水（比喻方法错误）。因为肉性入胃后便产生湿热，热生痰，痰生则气不下降而各种病症发作。谚语说：猪不配姜，吃了发大风，中年气血衰弱，面色发黑。
韩祗和说：凡是肉类有补益作用，只有猪肉无补益，是人们习惯造成的误解。
【附方】旧方五个，新方十五个。
噤口痢疾：腊肉脯，煨熟食用，效果奇妙。（李楼《奇方》）
小儿刮肠痢疾，噤口闭目病情严重的：精猪肉一两，薄切烤香，铺上半钱腻粉末，让患儿吃，或者放在鼻头闻香味，自然会想吃。（《活幼口议》）

白虎风病：用猪肉三串，与大麻子一合，酒半盏混合，含在口中。将肉掰开敷向病处，咒曰：相州张如意、张得兴，是你们白虎的本师，快出来。然后把肉放在床下，痊愈后送到路上，非常灵验。（《近效方》）

伤损不食：凡是打扑伤损，三五天水食不进。用生猪肉二大钱，捣烂，温水洗去血水，再捣烂，用阴阳汤调和。取半钱用鸡毛送入咽内，再用阴阳汤灌下。其中的食虫闻到香味拱开瘀血而上行，胸中自然开解。这是因为损伤血液凝聚在心间，虫吃血饱了，其他虫子不来探查的缘故。这叫骗通之法。（邵氏）

腊猪头：烧成灰，治鱼脐疮。
【发明】李时珍说：据《名医录》说：学究任道患体疮肿黑，形状狭长。北医王通说：这是鱼脐疮。一是因风毒蕴结，二是因气血凝滞，三是因误食人汗所致。于是用一异散敷之，每天更换几次而愈。恳求其方。王通说：只是雪上一枝蒿一味药罢了。任遍访四方无人知晓。有名医郝允说：《圣惠方》治疗此病，用腊猪头烧灰，鸡卵白调敷，就是这个方子。又《图纂》说：五月戊辰日，用猪头祀灶，所求如意；把腊猪耳挂在梁上，令人丰足，这也是厌禳之法。
项肉
俗名槽头肉，肥脆，能动风。
【主治】酒积，面黄腹胀。用一两切成泥，合甘遂末一钱做成丸，纸裹煨香食用，酒送下。应当拉出酒布袋样物质（李时珍。出自《普济方》）。
脂膏
【修治】李时珍说：凡是凝固的叫肪叫脂，融化的叫膏叫油，腊月炼制干净收藏使用。
苏恭说：十二月上亥日，取入新瓶，埋在亥地一百天使用，名叫……脂。每升入鸡子白十四枚，更好。

【发明】李时珍说：据丹溪治虚损补阴丸，多用猪脊髓和丸。取其通肾命，以骨入骨，以髓补髓也。

骨蒸劳伤：猪脊髓一条，猪胆汁一枚，童便一盏，柴胡、前胡、胡黄连、乌梅各一钱，韭白七根，同煎七分，温服。不过三服，其效如神。（《瑞竹堂方》）

【主治】生血：疗贲豚暴气，及海外瘴气（《日华子本草》）。中风绝伤，头风眩晕，及淋沥（苏恭）。猝下血不止，清酒和炒食之（孙思邈）。清油炒食，治嘈杂有虫（李时珍）。压丹石，解诸毒（吴瑞）。

李时珍说：据陈自明说：妇人嘈杂，皆血液泪汗变而为痰，或言是血嘈，多以猪血炒食而愈，盖以血导血归原之意尔。此固一说，然亦有蛔虫作嘈杂者，虫得血腥则饱而伏也。

【发明】李时珍说：古方治惊风癫痫痘疾，多用猪心血，盖以心归心，以血导血之意。用尾血者，取其动而不息也。猪为水畜，其血性寒而能解毒制阳故也。韩飞霞说：猪心血能引药入本经，实非其补。沈存中说：猪血得龙脑直入心经，是矣。

[Names] Zhu (Pig, *Benjing*), Tun (Piglet, same source), Jia (male pig, pronunciation jia), Zhi (pig, general term, pronunciation zhi), Ba (female pig, pronunciation fen).
Li Shizhen states: According to Xu Shen's *Shuowen Jiezi*, the character "shi" (pig) depicts the shape of hairy feet followed by a tail. Lin Shi's *Xiaoshuo* states: Pigs eat uncleanly, hence called "shi". In the Eight Trigrams, "Kan" represents the pig, as it is an aquatic animal with a nature that tends downward and prefers filth. A male is called "Jia" or "Ya"; a female is called "Zhi", "Ba" (pronunciation ba), or "Zi" (pronunciation lou). A castrated male is called "Ling". A pig with white hooves is called "Xing". A pig five chi tall is called "Fen" (pronunciation e). The offspring of a pig is called "Zhu", "Tun", or "Hai" (pronunciation hu). Su Song states: According to research: Yang Xiong's *Fangyan* says: Between Yan and Chaoxian, pigs are called "Jia"; east and west of the Pass, they are called "Zhi", or "Shi"; in Southern Chu, they are called "Ba"; between Wu and Yangzhou, they are called "Zhu Zi". In reality, they are all one species. *Book of Rites* calls them "Gang Lie" (stiff bristles); Cui Bao's *Gujin Zhu* calls them "Can Jun" (Staff Officer).
[Collection and Explanation] Su Song states: Generally, pig bones are fine, sinews few, and fat abundant; large ones weigh over one hundred jin. They require little food, so people raise them, and they reproduce easily. Li Shizhen states: Pigs are raised everywhere but vary by region. Those from Qing, Yan, Xu, Huai have large ears; those from Yan, Ji have thick skin; those from Liang, Yong have short legs; those from Liaodong have white heads; those from Yuzhou have... short; those from Jiangnan have small ears (called Jiang Zhu); those from Lingnan are white and extremely fat. Pigs gestate for four months. Among livestock, they belong to Water; among trigrams, to Kan; among avian stars, they correspond to the Room Mansion.
Pork
[Flavor and Properties] Sour, cold, non-toxic. General pork: Bitter, slightly cold, slightly toxic.
Jiang pork: Sour, neutral, slightly toxic. Tun meat: Pungent, neutral, slightly toxic.
*Bieming Lu* states: Pork treats mania. Generally, pork can block blood vessels, weaken sinews and bones, and cause muscle deficiency; it should not be eaten for long periods, especially by patients with knife wounds.
Sun Simiao states: Long-term consumption of pork reduces sperm production and triggers old diseases. Long-term consumption of tun meat causes widespread muscle pain and fatigue. Meng Shen states: Eating too much Jiang pork makes the body heavy; making jerky reduces the fishy smell.
Chen Cangqi states: Long-term consumption inhibits medicinal efficacy and induces wind diseases. For typhoid, malaria, dysentery, phlegm retention, stubborn diseases, hemorrhoids, and fistulas, eating pork will certainly cause recurrence.
Li Shizhen states: Northern pigs have a light flavor, and their broth is clear; southern pigs have a strong flavor, and their broth is thick, with greater toxicity. For medicinal use, pure black pigs are required. White pigs, spotted pigs, castrated pigs, sows, sick pigs; yellow-fat pigs, rice-meat pigs are all inedible. Yellow-fat pigs yield yellow broth; rice-meat pigs contain rice-like grains. *Shuowen Jiezi* says "pigs feeding under stars produce rice," and *Rites of Zhou* says "blind pigs with intersecting eyelashes are star pigs," both referring to this. Do not consume with Wumei (Mume Fructus), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma), Huhuanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma - specific type) (causes diarrhea) and Can'er (Xanthii Fructus) (induces wind). Consuming with fresh ginger generates facial carbuncles and wind; consuming with buckwheat causes hair loss and wind disease; consuming with Malva verticillata causes qi deficiency; consuming with Baihua Cai and Wuzhuyu induces hemorrhoids; consuming with Coriandrum sativum causes umbilical ulceration; consuming with beef causes parasites; consuming with sheep liver, eggs, crucian carp, and fermented soybean blocks qi; consuming with turtle and softshell turtle meat harms the body. When boiling pork, adding Gleditsiae Spina, Morus Alba Cortex, Galangal, and beeswax prevents wind generation; adding old bamboo slats makes it cook faster.
[Indications] Treats persistent mania (*Bieming Lu*). Suppresses Danshi (mineral drug) toxicity, resolves heat toxins, tonifies kidney qi exhaustion (*Qianjin Fang*). Treats mercury poisoning and miasma from entering earth pits (*Rihua*).
[Elucidation] Li Shizhen states: According to Qian Yi's treatment of pediatric malnutrition using Moschus Pills, pig bile is used to form pills, taken with猪肝汤 (pig liver soup). For malnutrition with thirst, pork soup or...
Tao Hongjing states: Pigs have many uses, but meat should not be eaten in excess as it causes sudden obesity due to muscle weakness.
Zhu Zhenheng states: Pork tonifies qi; the common belief that it tonifies yin is wrong; it actually tonifies yang. Modern deficiency cases lie in yin, not yang. Using meat to tonify yin is like using fire to aid water. Meat enters the stomach and generates damp-heat; heat produces phlegm; phlegm obstructs descending qi, causing various symptoms. The proverb says: Pork without ginger causes severe wind; middle-aged people with declining qi and blood develop dark faces.
Han Zhishe states: While most meats have tonic properties, pork has none; this is a misconception born of habit.

Upper Qi Cough, Fullness, and Asthma: Cut pork into pieces, fry in lard, and eat. (*Xinjing*)
Edema, Distension, Anorexia, and Chest Oppression: Use one pair of pork loin, cut raw, eat with garlic and Scallion Bulb. (*Xinjing*)
Body Swelling Attacking the Heart: Wash raw pork with grain wash water, press dry, cut into shreds, eat with garlic and Scallion Bulb, twice a day. Descends qi and dispels wind; this is a foreign formula. (Zhang Wenzhong Formula)
Traumatic Wind Swelling: Freshly slaughtered pork, sliced while hot, applied to the affected area. Change three slices consecutively; swelling disappears immediately. (*Jianbian*)
White Tiger Wind Disease: Use three strings of pork, mix with one he of hemp seeds and half a zhan of wine, hold in mouth. Tear meat and apply to the diseased area, chant: "Xiangzhou Zhang Ruyi, Zhang Dexing, you are the master of White Tiger, come out quickly." Then place meat under the bed; upon recovery, send it to the road. Very effective. (*Jinxiao*)
Manic Laughter and Walking Without Rest: Use one jin of castrated pork, boil until cooked, cut into shreds, eat with sauce and vinegar. Or make into porridge/stir-fry, take as desired. (*Shiyi Xinjing*)

Resolve Zhuru (Concretio Silicis) Toxicity, Persistent Diarrhea: Eating pork cures it. (*Qianjin Yi*)
Method for Taking Quartz: One da liang of white quartz, bagged, boiled in three dou of water until reduced to four sheng, remove stone. Add one jin of finely chopped pork, boil with pepper, green onion, salt, and fermented soybean. Take once every ten days. (*Waitai*)
Trauma with Anorexia: After blunt trauma, if no food/water is taken for 3-5 days: Use two da qian of raw pork, pound into paste, wash with warm water to remove blood, pound again. Mix with Yin-Yang Soup. Insert half a qian using a chicken feather into the throat, then pour down Yin-Yang Soup. The "food worms" smell the aroma, break up blood stasis, and ascend, naturally resolving chest congestion. This is because injured blood coagulates in the heart, worms feed on blood and become full, preventing other worms from probing. This is called the "Deception Unblocking" method. (Shao Shi)

Mountain Travel Repelling Leeches: Stone leeches exist in mountain streams and on vegetation, attaching to feet and penetrating flesh. Rub calves and toes with cured pork fat mixed with salt to prevent attachment. (*Qianjin Fang*)
Bamboo Splinter in Flesh: Wrap in slices of aged smoked meat; splinter exits. (*Jiuji Fang*)

[Indications] Treats chills, fever, five types of strangury, and ghost toxins (*Qianjin Fang*). Boiled with five flavors, it tonifies deficiency and fatigue, removes fright/epilepsy/five hemorrhoids, expels Danshi, but also induces wind (*Shiliao*).
Cured Pig Head: Burned to ash, treats Fish Umbilicus Ulcer.
[Elucidation] Li Shizhen states: According to *Mingyi Lu*: Scholar Ren Dao suffered from black swollen ulcers, narrow and long. Physician Wang Tong from the North diagnosed Fish Umbilicus Ulcer, caused by wind toxin accumulation, qi/blood stagnation, and accidental ingestion of human sweat. Treated with Yiyi San, changed daily until healed. Ren begged for the formula. Wang said: Only Xue Xuan (Snow Aconite) is needed. Ren searched everywhere in vain. Famous physician Hao Yun said: *Shenghui Fang* treats this with cured pig head burned to ash, mixed with egg white. Also, *Tuzan* states: On Wuchen day in May, sacrifice pig head to stove god for wishes; hang cured pig ear on beam for abundance; these are apotropaic rituals.
Neck Meat
Common name: Slot head meat. Fatty and crisp, induces wind.
[Indications] Alcohol accumulation, yellow face, abdominal distension. Cut one liang into paste, mix with one qian of Kansui powder, form pills, wrap in paper, roast until fragrant, eat with wine. Should expel "wine bag" substance. (Li Shizhen, from *Puji Fang*).
Fat/Lard
[Preparation] Li Shizhen states: Solidified is Fang/Zhi; liquefied is Gao/You. Refine cleanly in the twelfth lunar month for storage.
Su Gong states: On Hai day in the twelfth month, put in new jar, bury in Hai direction for 100 days, named... Fat. Adding fourteen egg whites per sheng is better.
[Flavor and Properties] Sweet, slightly cold, non-toxic. Incompatible with Wumei and Plum.
[Indications] Prepare medicated plasters, resolve Banmao and Yuanqing toxicity (*Bieming Lu*). Resolve Didan, Tingzhang, Yege, sulfur, and liver toxins, benefit intestines/stomach, promote urination, eliminate five jaundices and edema, generate hair (Li Shizhen). Break cold clumps, disperse old blood (Sun Simiao). Benefit blood vessels, disperse wind-heat, moisten lungs. Used in plasters for sores (Su Song). Kill parasites, treat skin wind, apply to malignant sores (*Rihua*). Treat abscesses/carbuncles (Su Gong). Beautify skin. Make hand cream to prevent cracking (Tao Hongjing). For retained placenta, take large amounts with wine, good (Xu Zhicai). Pig Lard: Generates hair, beautifies face (*Bieming Lu*).

Li Shizhen states: According to Chen Ziming, women's rumbling hunger is caused by blood, tears, sweat transforming into phlegm. This is one view, but rumbling can also be caused by roundworms; worms become full and hide upon smelling blood.

[Elucidation] Li Shizhen states: Ancient formulas for wind-stroke epilepsy and smallpox often use pig heart blood, based on the principle of heart returning to heart, blood guiding blood. Using tail blood is chosen for its continuous movement. Pigs are aquatic animals; their blood is cold and can detoxify/control yang. Han Feixia says: Pig heart blood guides medicine into the meridian, truly not a tonic. Shen Cunzhong says: Pig blood gets Dragon Brain (Borneol) to enter Heart Meridian directly, which is correct.
