Malignant carbuncles and severe swellings: Slice fresh Aconiti Radix (Caowu) and boil it in vinegar to form a paste. Apply the paste to the affected area. The root of the toxin will be expelled the next day. Another prescription: Take one tael of Liangtoujian (Aconitum carmichaelii lateral root processed with other herbs) and four crushed Crotonis Fructus (Badou), then apply them topically. The carbuncle will fall off spontaneously. (From *Puji Fang*)
Carbuncles and back abscesses: Grind processed Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata (Caowutou, peeled) into powder. Mix with scallion whites including roots, pound into a paste, and shape into pills the size of pea seeds. Coat these pills with Realgar powder. Take one pill per dose. First, chew thoroughly on one scallion stalk, then swallow with hot wine. If nausea or vomiting occurs three or four times, stop it by taking a mouthful of cold water. Then lie down and cover yourself tightly with thick blankets until sweating occurs. This method is also effective for treating cephalalgia due to wind-cold. (From *Qiankun Mi Yun*)
Various malignant sores, as well as back abscesses, carbuncles, and buboes: Erwu Gao (Two Wus Paste): Grind Caowutou (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata) and Chuanwutou (Aconiti Radix) on a tile using well-water to extract juice. Apply this juice to the lesion. If there is an open wound, apply around the edges. Reapply when dry. Alternatively, grind Caowutou with vinegar and apply topically alone. (From *Yonglei Fang*)
Severe leprosy-like tinea with blackening of the whole body, numbness of muscles and skin, and intermittent bi-syndrome pain: Take one jin of Caowutou. Scrape clean, remove skin thoroughly, and air-dry. Add four liang of refined sesame oil and four liang of salt into a wok. Stir-fry until deep yellow. Pour out excess oil, retaining only the salt and herbs. Continue stir-frying until black smoke appears. Break open one pill; it is ideal if there is a small white spot like a rice grain in the center. If too much white remains, stir-fry again. While hot, pound and sieve into powder. Use vinegar and wheat flour paste to make pills the size of Chinese quince seeds. Take thirty pills per dose on an empty stomach with warm wine. Since Caowu is highly toxic and difficult to control, consume porridge made with black soybeans within five to seven days to detoxify. (From Ji Hong's *Danliao Fang*)
Sores all over the body, especially severe on the scrotum and legs: Take one tael of Caowutou (processed with one tael of salt dissolved in water, soaked overnight, stir-fried red, and ground into powder), pig...
