(Quoted from *Tang Bencao*)
[Ji Jie - Collected Explanations] Su Song stated: Wild boars are very abundant in the Shaanxi and Luoyang regions. Their appearance resembles that of domestic pigs, but they have smaller abdomens and longer legs, with brown fur. They travel in herds; hunters only dare to shoot those at the rear. If a front one is hit, the herd scatters and may attack people. The meat is reddish, resembling horse meat, and its nutritional value surpasses that of domestic pigs, with female meat being particularly delicious.
Meng Xuan stated: In winter, wild boars eat acorns in the forests. The "Huang" (a gallstone-like substance found in the gallbladder) develops within the gallbladder and appears only after three years of age, and even then, it is not commonly obtained.
Li Shizhen stated: Wild boars are found in deep mountains everywhere, but this "Huang" occurs occasionally only in the Guanxi region. Their body shape is like that of a pig but larger. Their tusks protrude outside the mouth, resembling elephant ivory. Some can weigh up to two or three hundred jin. They are capable of eating snakes and venomous vipers. *Huainanzi* states: The burrows of wild boars are complex, with interconnected cavities simulating palace structures; the dark parts protect against rain, while the bright parts provide shade from the sun. This demonstrates their intelligence. Fan Chengda, in *Yu Heng Zhi*, mentioned: There is a creature in Lingnan called "Lazy Woman," which resembles a small mountain pig and damages crops. However, if looms and spinning tools are placed in the fields, it will no longer approach them.
[Qi Wei - Flavor and Properties] Sweet in flavor, neutral in nature, non-toxic. Su Song stated: It slightly induces wind.
Meng Xuan stated: It does not induce disease but reduces the efficacy of medicines, differing from domestic pigs. Only those with green hooves should not be eaten, as they slightly induce wind.
Li Shizhen stated: Those taking *Crotonis Fructus* (Ba Dou, Croton seed) should avoid it.
[Zhu Zhi - Therapeutic Actions] Treats epilepsy (*Dian Xian*), nourishes skin and muscles, benefits the five zang organs, causes slight obesity without inducing wind-deficiency qi (Meng Xuan). Consume no more than ten doses (*Ri Hua Ben Cao*).
