其疗折跌绝筋者。筋虽属肝。而养筋者脾血也。味甘益脾。脾血充足。则筋得养而自续也。
久服气寒益肾。肾气充所以身轻。味甘益脾。脾血旺则华面。所以不老。且先后二天交接。

地黄同大蓟、小蓟各半。捣取自然汁。和童便服。治血热吐衄症。同麦冬。治产后烦闷。

【地黄】
药性气寒，味甘，无毒。主治内伤中气，驱除血脉中的瘀滞痹阻，填补骨髓，促进肌肉生长。煎汤服用可消除寒热积聚之症，祛除痹证。治疗骨折、跌打损伤及筋脉断裂。长期服用可使身体轻盈、延缓衰老。鲜品疗效更佳。
地黄气寒，禀受冬季寒冷的水气，入足少阴肾经；味甘无毒，得大地中正的土味，入足太阴脾经。
其气味厚重浑浊，属阴。阴是体内守持真气的根本。所谓“伤中”，是指守持中焦的真阴受损。地黄甘寒的性质，正能主治此症。痹证是由于血虚不能运行，风寒湿邪侵袭所致，因此出现麻木症状。地黄味甘能补益脾气，脾血滋润则气血运行通畅不滞；气寒能补益肾气，肾气充足则开合功能正常。血液调和，邪气解除，痹证即可痊愈。肾主骨，气寒补益肾脏，则肾水充足而骨髓充盈；脾主肌肉，味甘滋润脾脏，则脾土滋养而肌肉丰满。煎汤去除寒热积聚，是因为“汤”有荡涤之意，无论是寒性还是热性的积聚，汤剂都能将其荡涤清除。大概是因为味甘可以缓解急迫，性滑可以去除湿浊黏着。至于祛除痹证，是因为血液调和则凝结消散，阴液滋润则闭塞通畅，这都是补益脾脏的功效。至于治疗骨折跌打和筋脉断裂，虽然筋归属于肝，但滋养筋脉的是脾血。味甘补益脾气，使脾血充足，筋脉得到滋养自然接续。长期服用，气寒补益肾脏，肾气充盛所以身体轻盈；味甘补益脾脏，脾血旺盛则面色红润光泽，所以延缓衰老。且先后天（先天肾与后天脾）交接融合，元气与谷气共同纳藏。
制方应用：
地黄与大蓟、小蓟各半量，捣碎取自然汁，配合童子小便服用。治疗血热引起的吐血、鼻衄症。
与麦冬同用，治疗产后烦闷。
与沙蒺藜、肉苁蓉、鹿茸、山茱萸、五味子同用，治疗男子精冷。
与白茯苓、牡丹皮、泽泻、山茱萸、山药同用，名为六味汤丸，治疗一切阴虚症。
与人参、远志、麦冬、酸枣仁、柏子仁、茯神、甘草同用，治疗心虚导致的心悸怔忡、健忘。
与黄芩、黄连、黄柏、酸枣仁、五味子、麦冬、桂圆肉、牡蛎同用，治疗盗汗不止。
与麦冬、五味子、牛膝、枸杞子、车前子、阿胶、天冬同用，治疗尿血。
与麦冬、五味子、牛膝同用，治疗下部无力。
与砂仁同用，治疗胎动下血及腰痛。
与生姜同用，治疗产后中风。
与醋炒黄芩同用，治疗肠风便血不止。
与肉桂、山药、山茱萸、牡丹皮、泽泻、白茯苓同用，名为七味汤丸，治疗命门火衰。

[Rehmanniae Radix]
The nature is cold, the flavor is sweet, and it is non-toxic. It primarily treats internal injury to the middle jiao (middle energizer), expels blood stasis and bi-syndrome (obstruction syndrome), fills the marrow, promotes muscle growth. Decoction can eliminate accumulations of cold and heat, and dispel bi-syndrome. It treats fractures, falls, and severed tendons. Long-term consumption makes the body light and delays aging. The fresh root is particularly effective.
Rehmanniae Radix has a cold nature, inheriting the cold water energy of winter, entering the Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Meridian; its sweet and non-toxic flavor corresponds to the central earth flavor of the earth, entering the Foot-Taiyin Spleen Meridian.
Its aroma and taste are heavy and turbid, belonging to Yin. Yin is that which guards the interior. "Injury to the middle" refers to the damage of the true Yin guarding the middle jiao. The sweet and cold nature of Rehmanniae Radix is suitable for treating this condition. Bi-syndrome arises from blood deficiency leading to poor circulation, allowing Wind-Cold-Dampness to converge, causing numbness. Rehmanniae Radix, being sweet, benefits the Spleen Qi; when Spleen Blood is moistened, movement is unimpeded. Being cold, it benefits Kidney Qi; when Kidney Qi is abundant, opening and closing functions normally. When Blood harmonizes and pathogens resolve, Bi-syndrome heals. The Kidney governs bones; the cold nature benefits the Kidney, ensuring sufficient Water to fill the marrow. The Spleen governs muscles; the sweet flavor moistens the Spleen, ensuring sufficient Earth to enrich the muscles. Making decoctions to remove cold and heat accumulations works because "decoction" implies sweeping away; whether cold or heat accumulations, the liquid form can sweep them away. Generally, sweet flavors can relieve urgency, and slippery properties can remove sticking pathogens. Regarding dispelling Bi-syndrome, harmonized Blood disperses knots, and moistening Yin opens blockages; all these are merits of benefiting the Spleen. Regarding treating fractures and severed tendons, although tendons belong to the Liver, they are nourished by Spleen Blood. Sweet flavor benefits the Spleen, making Spleen Blood sufficient, so tendons are nourished and reconnect naturally. Long-term consumption: cold nature benefits the Kidney, abundant Kidney Qi makes the body light; sweet flavor benefits the Spleen, abundant Spleen Blood lustrifies the face, thus delaying aging. Furthermore, the pre-heaven (Kidney) and post-heaven (Spleen) connect, integrating Yuan Qi (Original Qi) with Grain Qi.
Prescription Applications:
Mix Rehmanniae Radix with equal parts of Cirsii Japonici Herba (Daji) and Cirsii Setosae Herba (Xiaoji), crush to extract natural juice, and take with child's urine. Treats hematemesis and epistaxis due to Blood Heat.
Combined with Ophiopogonis Radix (Maidong), treats postpartional restlessness.
Combined with Tribuli Fructus (Shajili), Cynomorii Herba (Rongrong), Cervi Cornu Pantotrichum (Lurong), Corni Fructus (Shanzhuyu), and Schisandrae Fructus (Beiwei). Treats cold sperm in men.
Combined with Poria (Baifu), Moutan Cortex (Danpi), Alisma Rhizoma (Zexie), Corni Fructus (Shanzhuyu), and Dioscoreae Rhizoma (Shanyao). Named Liuwei Wan (Six-Ingredient Pill), treats all Yin deficiency syndromes.
Combined with Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (Renshen), Polygalae Radix (Yuanzhi), Ophiopogonis Radix (Maidong), Ziziphi Spinosae Semen (Zaoren), Platycladi Semen (Bairen), Poria (Fushen), and Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao). Treats Heart deficiency with palpitations, anxiety, and forgetfulness.

Combined with Cinnamomi Cortex (Rougui), Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata (Fuzi), Corni Fructus (Shanzhuyu), Poria (Baifu), Moutan Cortex (Danpi), Alisma Rhizoma (Zexie), and Dioscoreae Rhizoma (Shanyao) made into pills. Named Shenqi Wan (Kidney Qi Pill), treats Mingmen deficiency-cold.
