[Lancao (Orchid Herb)]
Taste: Acrid. Nature: Neutral. Toxicity: Non-toxic. It primarily promotes the flow of water passages, kills gu poison (parasitic toxins), and wards off inauspicious influences. It eliminates phlegm and stagnation in the chest. Long-term consumption benefits qi, lightens the body, prevents aging, and enhances spiritual clarity. Also known as Shuixiang (Water Fragrance). It grows in the ponds and marshes of Dawu. Harvested in April and May.
People nowadays no longer recognize or use this herb. "Dawu" likely refers to the ancient State of Wu, where Taibo resided, hence the name "Great Wu." Currently, there is a wetland herb used for decoction called Lanxiang (Fragrant Herb) in the eastern regions, which might be this plant; it grows in damp places. Li Yun states: This is what people plant today, resembling Duliang Xiangcao (Duliang Aromatic Herb). (Da Guan Bencao Vol. 7, Zhenghe Bencao Vol. 186)
[Wei Wu / Jiang Li]
Taste: Acrid. Nature: Warm. Toxicity: Non-toxic. It mainly treats coughing and rebellious qi, calms frightful qi, wards off evil influences, removes gu poison and gui zhu (ghostly afflictions), and expels the three parasites (roundworms, pinworms, tapeworms) from the body. Long-term consumption enhances spiritual connection. It treats old wind pathogens in the body, chronic wind in the head, and wind-induced vertigo. Also known as Wei Wu, or Jiang Li; it is the seedling of Chuanxiong Rhizoma. It grows in the rivers and marshes of Yongzhou and Wanqu. Leaves are harvested in April and May and dried in the sun.
It is currently produced in Liyang and is found everywhere; many households cultivate it. The leaves resemble those of Cnidium Fruit but are fragrant. Poets use it as a metaphor, but its use in prescriptions is rare. (Da Guan Bencao Vol. 7, Zhenghe Bencao Vol. 175)
[Yun Ying / Yuan Shi / Tian Dou]
Taste: Acrid, Bitter. Nature: Warm. Toxicity: Non-toxic. It mainly treats diarrhea and dysentery, intestinal parasites, kills gu poison, removes evil stagnant qi, relieves pain, and eliminates cold and heat symptoms. It treats Xiao Ke (wasting-thirst syndrome).
Flowers: They treat visions of ghostly spirits; excessive consumption causes madness and running about. They kill spirit entities, promote urination, and burning them can summon ghosts. Long-term consumption lightens the body, enhances spiritual clarity, and prolongs life. Also known as Yuan Shi, Yun Ying, or Tian Dou. It grows in the valleys of Hejian. Harvested in October and dried.
It is now found everywhere. The seeds are small like Thlaspi Seeds but darker black, and the fruit resembles Hyoscyamus Nigrum Seed. The claim that burning it summons ghosts has not been verified by me. (Da Guan Bencao Vol. 7, Zhenghe Bencao Vol. 190)
[Xu Changqing / Gui Du You]

The name Gui Du You has many variations. What is used in the world today is Xu Changqing Radix. Its root resembles Asarum Root, though slightly shorter and flatter, with a similar aroma. It is used in the current Gouji San... (Da Guan Bencao Vol. 7, Zhenghe Bencao Vol. 190)
