Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum): Flavor is pungent and sweet, nature ranges from slightly cold to very cold, non-toxic. It treats wind-stroke with alternating chills and fever, rebellious qi below the heart causing palpitations and panting. Dry mouth and scorched tongue, inability to breathe comfortably, hardness and pain in the abdomen, expels evil spirits (superstitious concept), treats postpartum conditions and lactation issues, and metallic wounds (trauma caused by metal weapons). Removes seasonal epidemic diseases (seasonal infectious diseases), headache, body heat, excessive heat in the Sanjiao (Triple Burner: Upper, Middle, and Lower Jiao), skin heat, heat in the stomach and intestines separated by the diaphragm, releases the muscle layer to induce sweating, stops Xiao Ke (wasting-thirst syndrome similar to diabetes), irritability and rebellious qi, abdominal distension, sudden asthma and panting, throat heat, and can also be used as a medicinal bath decoction. Also known as Xi Shi (Fine Stone); those with fine texture and bright white luster are of good quality, while yellow ones cause Lin syndrome (dysuria). Grows in valleys of Qi Mountain, Qi Lu Mountain, and Lu Meng Mountain; harvesting has no fixed time. (Jizi [Egg] acts as its guiding drug; it is incompatible with Mangcao [Aconitum lateriflorum var. chinense] and Du Gong.) The two commanderies refer to Qingzhou and Xuzhou. Currently, it is found underground in prisons of Qiantang County, emerging naturally after rain; extracted pieces are square like chessmen, with transparent white being the best. Rare nowadays, often replaced by those from Lingyin Mountain. Those from Pengcheng are also good. Available near the path but in large blocks, less effective than those from other regions. The *Xian Jing* (Immortal Classic) does not require this herb. (From *Xinxiu Bencao* p. 51, *Daguan Bencao* Vol. 4, *Zhenghe Bencao* p. 108)
Yangqishi (Stylobite): Flavor is salty, nature is slightly warm, non-toxic. It treats Beng Zhong (uterine bleeding with heavy flow), Lou Xia (continuous dripping vaginal bleeding), breaks blood stasis in the Zi Zang (uterus), resolves Zheng Jia (abdominal masses) and stagnant qi, chills and fever, abdominal pain, infertility, impotence and sexual dysfunction, and tonifies deficiencies. Treats coldness at the glans penis, dampness and itching in the genital area, removes foul sweat, and reduces edema. Long-term consumption prevents hunger and promotes fertility. Also known as Bai Shi (White Stone), Shi Sheng (Stone Born), Yangqi Shi (Sheep-Rising Stone); it is considered the root of Yunmu (Mica). Grows in valleys of Qi Mountain, Langya, or Yunshan, Yangqi Mountain; harvesting has no fixed time. (Sangpiaoxiao [Mantis Egg Case] acts as its guiding drug; it is incompatible with Zexie [Alisma], Jungui [Cassia Bark], Leiwan [Polyporus Umbellatus], Shed Snake Skin, and fears Tusizi [Cuscuta].) Its origin is the same as Mica and resembles Mica closely, but is denser and more solid. Currently used herbs come from Yizhou, co-occurring with Fanshi (Alum Stone); yellowish-black ones are Alum Stone. The exact identity of Mica's root remains unknown? It is rarely used by contemporary physicians. The *Xian Jing* also recommends its consumption. (From *Xinxiu Bencao* p. 48, *Daguan Bencao* Vol. 4, *Zhenghe Bencao* p. 112)
